YouMeUs: Once the very last doubt is removed. There is no time frame for that.
True. But would you date someone for 10 years if there wasn't a possibility of marriage? I guess some people would. I turned 30 at the beginning of this month and I doubt that I would date someone for 10 years. I mean, I'd like to think that after the first year, you'd know if you want to spend the rest of your life with someone. I can understand dating for a year to 4 years, maybe 5, but after that, it just seems like, what's the point? I don't know. I guess when people are in their early 20's (as in college) that dating someone for 4 to 6 years isn't too bad. Of course, many of them get married right out of college too.
i agree that you can't really put a time frame on it..nonetheless i voted for 2-3 years which i think are reasonable enough. just checked the vote breakdown and it's so funny to see that the only other vote was made by a man and apparently he would need a lot longer to commit :). back to the stereotypes...:D

I wonder how old the guy is. He's in the 18 to 40 age range but that doesn't say anything in terms of this question. I would think that guys that are in the age range of 18 to 21 would need more time and that as you got older that time would decrease. I guess the stereotype is that all women want to have kids so they would want to get married after knowing (dating) a guy for a shorter amount of time.

If there was any correlation between how long you date and the chance of the marriage being a success the question may be relevant but in my experience and opinion time doesn't guarantee success.
If it feels right do it but don't expect a guarantee with your wedding certificate.

I don't think it would take ten years to find out the person was or was not marriage material, if marriage was that important to you. If marriage is discussed with the one you're with, only to find they'd prefer to talk about something else or never gives you any direct input about it, then there is your doubt about him/her. Unless you can live with as well as be happy with the fact that you may never marry this person, then it may be best to look elsewhere and cut your losses.
And for the record, I did not vote in your poll, as I stand by my first post.

please re-assure everyone that it is a happy marriage - give the poor lonely people still searching a little hope nice to hear someone has found a partner on the site
I would say it depends on the two people involved..I do not believe the age matters..both have to be willing and ready to make the committment...some a few months others a few years..its when the two are ready
