Mermaidon: Boy, you do know your Star Trek. I only know the defiant from First Contact and Worf seemed to think it's a worthy Starship... who am I to argue?
She is a small ship but as Sisko described it, she has teeth. Sisko was one of the designers behind the Defiant after wolf-359, hence the reason why he got that ship on DS9. Originally, the Defiant couldn't go past warp 4 because it was so overpowered for its size, it nearly shook the ship apart. Cheif O'Brien had to completely overhaul the stabilizers and the structural stability systems to make the ship flyable at high warp.

I been watching the old episodes for years, not as many people liked DS9 the way I do. If you watch the series from the first episode to the last, its something like a 24'th century soap opera that has a bunch of little plots within the big plot and it all comes together towards the end.
There was actually 2 Defiant's. The first one got destroyed when the Breen joined the Dominion in the war and had a weapon that could flatten federation shields the first shot. The 2'nd Defiant was originally named Sao Paulo but Sisko was given permission to change its name to Defiant. The 2nd Defiant had a modified deflector array that could combat and neutralize the Breen weapon.
Ok, so I am not a trekkie in the sense that I know the schematics of the ships or dress up in the outfits. (Exception to the rule, Ferengi, of course.) But I do like all the shows and the movies. The only series I didn't get into was the last one , Enterprise...and I went to school in the 7th grade with one of the stars! (Conner Trineer) I am SURE I have watched all the other series at least once.
And then I dated a guy and we tried to have a Star Trek Marathon, but we couldn't watch all the movies in one sitting. It would be fun to watch one a night or one once a week, though. The last movie was great, too. I like that they are getting new blood in there to keep it going.
And I also am subscribed to George Takai on Facebook...

Wow, thanks for all that info... I like Star Trek but I never got into it as much as you did apparently. I liked some of the series, the only thing I didn't like is that they kinda turned them into space soap operas, and that's when I unplug.

I think I am definitely a fan!!
Yep, plenty of Star trek fans around. I do like the fact that they are bringing new actors and new adventures in the Star Trek universe. I like the movies better than the series (although I did grow up watching the old series). I hope there will be new life breathed into Star trek thanks to the last movie.
One time in the early 80's my mom and I sat down to watch one of the episodes to the original Star Trek. About five minutes into it my mom slaps her thigh and says, "This is a rerun!" I was a smart mouth teen and pointed out to mom that the show was made when SHE was in high school, and she has probably seen them all at least twice by then.

I loved the new movie but hated the Romulan make up. I thought they could have done a much better job personally. I always liked the ridges on the forehead and the pointed ears are my fave to wear. LOL I actually had someone grab my ear and ask if they were real. As well as making costumes; I am a make up artist and make my own masks. Its a fun hobby.
I think anyone who goes to such lengths with the details and the quality put into their work deserves a lot of credit!
I've been wanting to make that communicator badge for quite some time now. Got the silver but still need some gold and a cast mold to do it. Maybe one day...
StillOfTheNight: I don't ask much for Christmas, just an intrepid class starship and a hour on the holodeck
You'll need to get into the academy first, young man And for your info, the Holodeck isn't going to be available for a while 'cause I'M using it, capito?

What will we be doing on the holodeck together?????
single4ever: Nope, but I do have the Borg outfit. Check it out on my profile.
I love the Borg and Klingon costumes you made. The Borg have to be my all time favourites on Star Trek. I'll have to watch them all again. I feel like I've forgotten too much or missed many of them. Gene Rodenbury needs an award of some kind in his memory.
To all you trekers out there....'Live Long and Prosper'

I always liked Star Trek from the beginning and read paperbacks as well. I Don't have any star trek costumes but that doesn't mean I haven't watched every show a few times. I watched the roast of William Shatner where he actually rode a horse onto stage. I loved it at the end where George Takai (Sulu) got up and said how he always wanted to tell Shatner "F.ck You and the Horse you rode in on." He said it so matter of factly....I guess they had there share of riffs on the set..or somewhere. But it never hurt the movies or series, they both played their roles great. Does George send Christmas cheers on Facebook???? j/k Nikogash ;-}

I am watching a rerun of the TNG episode where Q first introduced the Enterprise crew to the Borg

I know {i think} that it is the first time in the storyline that they see them but was that episode actually the first one to show or make refernce to the "Borg"?? Not to mess the timeline up but then there was the "borg" attack on earth to stop zefram cochrane from achieving Warp that day when the Vulcans would be in the vicinity. I wonder how much planning went into the Borg and if it kinda went well and then maybe they wrote in more dialogue, just like having to make the bridge to where Klingons are not enemies..I bet they have a big flow chart to look at it all now. so much history,,,lol I like it all though.

The temporal episodes and movies are kinda "make your mind spin" sometimes lol. In actuality, there were a few human contacts with the Borg before Picard.
In one episode of "Enterprise," a few drones were discovered up in the north pole and when thawed, they came back to life and next thing, they are flying through space in a ship. Captain Archer comes to learn about the 24'th century Borg involvement from first contact from stories that Cochrane used to tell but everyone thought he was drunk and just making up bs. Eventually, Archer and the crew was just barely able to stop them before they made contact with the Borg in the 22'nd century when they were deep in the Delta quadrant.
Another pre-Picard contact was the USS Raven, the ship seven of nine's parents flew shadowing the Borg until they got assimilated.

I remember the Raven and their story. but wasn't that from Voyager that aired? I agree, it is a mind spin and would not be surprised if they have a pretty complex flow chart for obvious reasons. and the one with archer and the involvement I haven;t seen in awhile. I really wish they would start running them again. Sometimes the bbc has some episodes but about 6 months ago Star Trek was all over the channels...hope they hurry back. thanks for the info! ;-}

Isn't SevenOfNine part Borg? Hummm She can assimilate me any time she wants

Yes, I didn't care for the Romulans in the last movie and Eric Bana did leave a lot to be desired as far as his acting is concerned. It would also be nice for them to depict a 'bad guy' who isn't caught up in folly but in cold, calculated revenge. Even Khan had become crazy waiting to exact vengeance on Kirk.

Mermaidon: Yes, they can call us Trekies, weirdoes or geeks, it doesn't matter, we like the Star Trek Universe for many different reasons. I like the Trek motion Pictures because it's good science fiction. Some of you may like them for other reasons, but no matter, as early as 1961, Gene Roddenberry drafted a proposal for the science fiction series that would become Star Trek. Although he publicly marketed it as a Western in outer space, a so-called "Wagon Train to the Stars" (like the popular Western TV series)—he privately told friends that he was modeling it on Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, intending each episode to act on two levels: as a suspenseful adventure story and as a morality tale. Roddenberry intended the show to have a highly progressive political agenda reflective of the emerging counter-culture of the youth movement, though he was not fully forthcoming to the networks about this. He wanted Star Trek to show humanity what it might develop into, if only it would learn from the lessons of the past, most specifically by ending violence. An extreme example is the Vulcans, who had a very violent past but learned to control their emotions. Roddenberry also wanted to imply an anti-war message and to depict the United Federation of Planets as an ideal, optimistic version of the United Nations. His efforts were thwarted by the network's concerns over marketability, e.g., they were opposed to Roddenberry's insistence on a racially diverse crew of the Enterprise. Which feature film do you consider the best or do you like most?
There wasn't any room for more choices and I very much like the last Star Trek (2009). If you like more than one of the choices or the very last motion picture, don't hesitate to express it by commenting.
So warp on, engage and make it so, lol
I love everything Star Trek.. But in particular Deep Space Nine

Seems the Trek universe has something for everyone. I have a friend who only watches Voyager because he has a crush on Kathryn Janeway. I can't blame him though, that woman is a smart, tough, authoritative, intelligent and charming lady all at the same time.
