I am American, even though I currently live in Europe. I was raised in the sticks of WA state. We shoot targets at family gatherings...I only ate meat that was provided by my grandpa growing up, either the cattle, deer, elk, bear, or fish that he procured or raised himself. I had a lucky childhood. Until I moved to Europe, I had a handgun. I kept it in pieces in a locked box and stored in a separate location than the ammo. My brothers used to tell me how ridiculous this was, but I always said that MY "bad guys" would be polite enough to wait for me to put the gun together and load it...
Never give up hope! My granddad found a new love after his wife had passed. He married on a Valentines Day, the day before his 80th birthday. (Told his bride that if they didn't marry before he was 80, then why bother.) He is now turning 86 in Feb. They are healthy, active, and enjoying life. He still works and owns a business. I think 70 can be a GREAT age, as long as you use it well!
It's not the years, it's the mileage! (Kilometerage??)
You know when you are out walking in the winter under some trees, chatting with a friend about the politics of Portugal, and you move a sharp left to avoid the dog poo in your path and you hit a bush or a tree and a dollop of snow falls down the back of your neck, underneath your clothes? I hate that.
I understand! I have always felt about 45 even when I was younger. I was the "mama" of my girlfriends..."Where is your coat? Did you lose your crutches? I packed you a lunch cause I knew you would forget." Maybe that is why at 42, I feel like I am becoming comfortable in my skin.
I spent the first twenty years being raised by my mom. The second twenty years I raised my daughter. I figure the next twenty years are MINE, and then I will have to care for my mom...I am two years into my ME years and there are NO regrets yet!!
"The kakka is coming!" Magnus, age 4, Asking to go to the bathroom (one hand on each of my cheeks, looking me straight in the eye.)
"Where is my head?" asked by Lenni, age 5, while sitting at the lunch table.
And lastly, when she finally figured out she had so many grandmothers, my own granddaughter told me she was wanted to find a name just for me to keep me separate. For a while I was the "Special Grandma". Then I became, "Grandmamamamama" which was soon shortened to "Mamma". After getting that confused with her own mother, she sighed and said, "I'm just gonna call you Tinkerbell." Jaedie, age 3
Felt pathetic and a loser as I had no date for NYE, so I went to my sisters. I TRIED to participate with the family, we had a great dinner, then the wait for midnight began. I was asleep on the couch when my 4 nephews went out to light the fireworks. My sister was watching a movie when midnight happened. We had our champagne the next morning after breakfast. I AM SO OLD!
This is sooooo hard! I chose to not date men with children under 18 while I was raising my child. There were several reasons, finances, holidays, ex wives, etc. But another was that I didn't want my child to have to be put second or third.
My brother did the "yours mine and ours" thing, he and his second wife have custody of all three of the previous children and now have four of their own. It took several years, but they have a pretty harmonious household. (But not quiet!)
Ok, got home and faced the scale. I gained 1.9 kilos in 1 week. I am kinda amazed as I have been TERRIBLE I thought it might might be more. But already started back on track today!
And studies show that people that weigh themselves every day lose more weight over time. The learn better about how they eat affects their weight more directly.
I hated to turn into the diet geek, but that is what I have had to do to lose the weight I have lost so far...
The day starts off with Rice Porridge, rye bread from the market place, cheese, meat, and lettuce...and Christmas tea.
Then comes Sauna...I had a cider after.
We had our dinner tonight: Ham (Cooked over night in a traditional old oven) Potato Casserole Carrot Casserole Rutabega Casserole Pickled Fish (two kinds) Cold smoked Salmon (two kinds) Boiled eggs Steamed potatoes Green Pepper Pate Smoked Ham Pate Beet Salad Pasta Salad Mushroom Salad Rasberry Salad Macaroni Casserole for the children.
Dessert was Plum, Apricot, Apple, and Pear Fruit soup with whipped cream.
Santa came to visit and distribute packages...
Coffee was Bailey's flavoured Cheesecake, Christmas tarts (two kinds), Cinnamon S cookies, and gingerbread cookies. Also some Fazer Chocolates.
Now a trip to the graveyard to light candles and then on to Christmas Church.
One time in the early 80's my mom and I sat down to watch one of the episodes to the original Star Trek. About five minutes into it my mom slaps her thigh and says, "This is a rerun!" I was a smart mouth teen and pointed out to mom that the show was made when SHE was in high school, and she has probably seen them all at least twice by then.
RE: unusual OR funny quotes
Two from a child in my daycare several years ago..."Chocolate is my favorite color"
