Dealing with the emotionl pain afterwards takes an entire lifetime, as we know the end result is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after Torture. A good way of dealing with the emoitonal aftermath is through Grounding->
I know this to be true as I was physically tortured. The physical scars shrink over time, however the impact on "Trusting" is very slow to come.

Torture (looking for one of us to confess) and beatings (for the confessor) were the norms in my childhood home.
I confessed to everything because I could not take the torture, beat me and get it over with.
All these years my parents thought, I was the problem child.

Yes, we had to sit in thawn trees with thawns digging into our heads, to keep us awake. This was part of military training. Also, leapard crawling over thawns and hard terrain constantly, being punished by the Corporals, because beds werent neat enough, or floors werent shiney enough etc. Also forced to do pressups with full load on back at 2am in the morning, forced to run up and down in the heat, until you passed out, then given a glucose injection to wake you up again, and continue going. I can go on and on.
