Carl96190: Feel free to smoke all you want in your own home.
Hell, I might even give you a match while you are gasping your last in an oxygen tent.
Just do not expect any non-smokers to feel warm and fuzzy about their tax dollars being used to pay for your medical care.

Ahh, their tax dollars, I've heard that arguement all too many times before. The last time someone went off on an anti-smoking tirade, someone else posted stats stating that smokers contribute far more to government coffers through taxes. Those taxes offsetting any health care spending that might result from their smoking by a long shot.

I'd look up the stats myself, but I don't really care.

After reading your contributions to this thread, and others, I have no doubt you'd like to set fire to someone in an oxygen tent, especially if they didn't agree with you. You're smart enough to realise that's what would happen when you light a match in that environment.

While you're looking up the stats, please look up what obese people cost health care systems around the world, compared to smokers. Also drug abusers, alcoholics, and stressed out control freaks.

Smokers and drinkers of alcohol pay a bit of extra tax that in my mind should go straight to health care and not into General Revenue to support non-smokers,....and I know of many smokers who have lived very long lives,,....genetic pre-disposition to alkaloid exposure,.....many non-smokers also die pre-maturely for a multitude of reasons.

This thread was not about drinkers or junkies. Your reference to them is nonsensical, but typical.
I am not 100% healthy. I am carrying a shopping list of problems that have caught up with me as my body ages, as a result of doing wild things with the army and in martial arts when I was younger.
I have also been diagnosed to have 'major depression', thought I do not consider this to be a disorder. What it gives me is the ability to view the world with a critical clarity, unhindered by the conditioned mindset that has been programmed into the sheeple.
What is, in my view, a disorder is the vacuous lemmings who wander through life with a Pollyanna outlook and no good reason to be happy.
I define optimism as an irrational expectation that random events will fall in their favour. It is irrational.
That my comments make you puke . . . care factor . . . dancing

Perhaps Carl if you stopped judging others like myself in relation to my smoking your major depression might improve, be better for you than taking pills from the hand of a Christian pal

I am not disputing an anthropological claim to a migration over the Alaska "land bridge",....nor am I disputing a likewise Cro Magnon ancestry of ancient savagery for myself,...just letting you know in my circle, the way in which you put forth your postulations would have resulted in some reversion to "said savagery" being smote upon thee! And let us not forget that was it not a Sir Walter who brought tobacco back from the New World,....?? It is an insidious plant with a very addictive alkaloid that society has allowed to infiltrate. Calling smokers stupid sure as hell is not going to assist in them wanting to make an attempt to quit!

I would not set fire to them, they would set fire to themselves. I would just hand them the box of matches. rolling on the floor laughing
I can recall reading two news stories about smokers that I thought were priceless. Both were from the USA, which should hardly surprise anyone.
One was of a dying smoker who really did light up in an oxygen tent and was killed in the subsequent explosion and fire.
The other was about a dying smoker who had tubes feeding 100% O2 up his nose. He lit up and blew his face off, literally.
They had to have just one more cigarette. rolling on the floor laughing

The psychological profile of a smoker is unflattering and they are obviously an idiot who wants (subconsciously) to die a slow and painful death.

The wonders of the internet, and planet Earth, it's full of hypocrites.laugh

Much to my dismay, I am one too, I smacked a smoke out of my brother's face years ago, even though I smoke myself. I know all too well the dangers and health risks attributed to smoking, and wouldn't want to see him start down the same path.

On the upside, he never smoked again. laugh

I thought I'd just stick up for myself a little bit here, and I fully understand that smoking is terrible for your health, can cause you to die younger and is fully and completely a choice. BUT, I don't mean to be rude Carl, but as long as you already detest me for being a smoker, I'd just like to point out that being overweight is just as detrimental to your health and can seriously cut the length of your life. I'm not being judgemental, because I, myself have a weight issue... But if being a smoker means you have an "unflattering psychological profile" and makes you "an idiot who wants to die a slow and painful death", doesn't then being overweight mean the exact same thing...?

I do not recall saying that you were drunk, but some of your posts give the impression that you are 'out there' as the saying goes.
The leaps of disjointed logic remind me of people I have known who have been bipolar.

Continually stating harsh judgments about others is plain silly when its not possible to know what karmas they have cause any judgment made is based on our own limited experiences

andreas9395: an advice
In answer to your question i loved smoking. I quit 6 months ago however in the hope that i might get an extr year or two not for me but for my son. I have to say when i started it was encouraged as a cool thing to do on tv in the late 60s .I wonder why people start these days with all the anti smoking graphics we see this puzzles me a bit.Any way ive given up once before for two years so my body has a break but i can tell you this i still love to smell tobacco and all the non smokers die too. As for the wingers they spray hair spray and air fresheners and god knows what else and complain about cigarette smoke give me a break take one suck of them and youll drop dead on the spot!!

Shotokan is a form of karate less than 150 years old. To state that you are not Buddhist monks is VERY correct.

Karate IGNORES stupidity,...to say it CHALLENGES stupidity is a very strange statement,....

then again Sensei,...who am I to say,...

I'm waiting for the smoke to clear in this thread!! laugh

Geeze there are some passionate views about this subject. I myself don't smoke, tried it because I was curious when I was about 13 or so, and OMG I didn't like it. Smoking was normal in my family, so it was accepted as being ok. There were no health effect warnings in those days that I recall.

Heck I remember my grandmother being advised to smoke by her doctor because it would help her lose weight ....... so unfortunately many became addicted due to false information for there were no long term studies to show the actual effects of smoking, and by then, most people were addicted whether they liked it or not.

These days, I honestly can't handle being around it. It gives me headaches, and I don't feel good if there is not good ventilation around me.

The reality though is that we breathe in fumes, etc. every day .... whether it be second hand smoke or not. Smoking is merely the tip of the iceberg if we truly wanted to go green for ourselves and the earth.
