She had some of a bad past, the family didn't care about her, now that I look after her they all got a big issue, I was the only one prepared to help her.

Yes, of course it is ok. Just be with her, tell her you love her and ignore he brother. He will eventually get used to the idea when he sees how happy she is...well...hopefully.
