RDM59: to the extremities of human nature .... .... I think ...
the whole universe seems to need a negative and a positive to result in a balancing force. I don't see why we humans should be any different.
UMM good point, maybe as a whole thing..but as individuals we have freedom of choice and i would like to think we are mainly good without the desire to hate...,i know this may be an illusion but itsmy illusion and im happy with it..
I can see how love can be effortless and just be, but hate appears to require a lot of energy to keep it going ...
Perhaps that's because for you hate is such an unnatural emotion, you have to imagine hard and put in the mental effort to get you to that negative level. But for some it might be very different, very easy. I have never experienced true hate, thankfully so can't be sure about how effortless it is, I am just assuming for some that it could be.
Indifference requires no energy to feed it ...
Could indifference be the opposite of love instead of hate?
Indifference, is like a sort of Zombie no man's land. A soulless existence, not bad but a pure waste of potential good.

It's the better of the two illusions I agree .....
And results in less black eyes ....
Some element of self preservation built into it all I think.....

I have seen "hate", the people dishing it out appeared to be consumed by it. A bit like people who are infatuated with someone are consumed by their "love".

There was me thinking that indifference was the lack of emotion, positive or negative in relation to something specific, NOT as a general way of life!!!
I think it is much easier to love. When I come across people who do bad things or simply annoy me, I think that possibly if I had experienced what they did, I could be just like them. I tend to feel sorry for people rather than hate them.

Isn't it amazing how every single person on this thread has said it is easier to love than hate, and that they don't hate anybody? Really?????
If everyone in the world is as loving as you all on this thread profess to be, why are there so many wars, and fights, and killings, and divorces and family break ups and just generally people hurting each other?
The fact is that it is easy to love those treat you kindly and who you feel good and comfortable with, and who are nice to you. It's easy of course to love a baby, who could hate a baby? Nobody of course could. So it's no great acheivement to say you love a new born baby, it's natural to most of us. But the fact is that to "Love Thy Neighbour" can be the biggest challenge of all. Bearing in mind that by "neighbour" we are not talking necessarily about the person who happens to live next door to you. "Neighbour" in this context simply means another human being. Now, I am not going to be one of those that comes on here and preaches but let me just say what nobody on this thread is willing to admit. There are people in this world who are a CHALLENGE to love! When I say love, in this context, I mean just to be kind to, not to hate, to be tolerant of, you know what I mean? If everyone in the world is as loving as you all on this thread profess to be, why are there so many wars, and fights, and killings, and even divorces and family break ups and just generally people hurting each other? Now tell me you never hate and it's easy to love.
Not bringing up the "R" word, but this might be of interest:
