charliejapartee: i've heard people sing aboriginal land rights songs even tho they disagree with them, when asked why they say 'i don't listen to the words'
"Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and "Brown Eyed Girl" are great songs to sing/know the words to. "Beach Baby" and "Little GTO" are super, too.
Tricky question. I have songs I like simply for the music,....but the lyrics suck. Others the music sucks,....but the lyrics strike a chord with me (and I tend to listen to the first more than the second hands down!) When both happen,...great tune, great lyrics,....it becomes an over and over again type of song!

Sure I do,although I think the phrasing of words,or their melodic nature is more likely to catch my ear than the actually meaning of the words,or the story they tell or whatever, but still,I can appreciate a good lyric for it's own sake.
I like songs where I can understand the words. One reason I dislike rock so much is because the "music" is do loud I can't hear the words. How the kids are able to pick out the words is beyond me.
