No. If anyone answered yes, should crack pipes be gov't funded? I know there is a difference where transfer of a virus is at stake with needles, but the mere fact of enabling a drug abuser is not a good answer. I know someone will ask, do you want more people walking around with AIDS? Of course not. I want all drug users to grow up and realize it is wrong to do what they are doing. It is selfish and destroys society rather than help.

Needles spread disease and if there is not an exchange program, not only will Hep C and HIV/AIDS be a greater problem (which we will ALL pay much more for as these people become ill and need medical assistance), but it also means the needles are disposed of properly...not left in the street or sand-pits in parks where children can get a hold of them!
I do not see this as the same as crack pipes at all.

Oh yeah, and that's going to happen real soon and everything will be cool,,,,
I certainly hope it will. Just getting sick and tired of these selfish losers who harm society. Also sick of people who enable them to continue their destructive behavior and those who are apathetic.

I expect that many substance misusers end up self-medicating because they're sick and tired of selfish losers who have harmed them.
You're just partaking in the viscious and tragic cycle on an emotional and cognitive level...and so it will go on with your help. Well done.
If for no other reasons than the pragmatism of of needle exchange being more cost effective than medical care later on down the line; if for no other reason than, as Pisces pointed out, used needles are less likely to put children at risk, those who use needle exchange facilities will be just a little less underground and will have contact with the kind of contacts they need, should they find the strength and courage to make changes for themselves.
Hell, most people would find it a bit tricky giving up tea and coffee, ffs.

Just be grateful you haven't ended up in that kind of a fix!
Its a good idea. If a user has access to clean needles, those providing clean needles may also have access to programs to help a user clean up. Some users do not want to be users but they don't know how to access treatment programs and have no one to help them access those programs.
