Do you do any kind of volunteer/charity work? If so, where and/or what kind?
I volunteer about 15 hours a week at the animal humane center walking dogs. It's fulffilling to me because not only am I an animal lover but because most of those dogs do not get any kind of attention paid to them so when they get to go on a walk they are so excited! It breaks my heart to leave them behind and I wish I can adopt them all.

I'm currently in the middle of moving interstate so i'm not doing any voluntary work at the moment, but i was working for the local Salvation Army second hand store fixing furniture and sorting clothes and donated goods, i give blood and volunteer with the local, state emergency service unit(a civilian rescue group) i will also be helping out at my daughters school with the reading assistance program. Since i'm retired from the Army i have alot of time on my hands and it's nice to help ut a little.

Well as an animal lover i think what you do is wonderful, especially since dogs are my favourite animal.
I do voluntary work for a local charity taking people with learning disabilities out into the hills. It's a selfish act really...it gives ME great pleasure.

I volunteer my time visiting with cancer patients in a cancer hospital in my home town, running small errands and listening. Listening is key. Anyways, it's a pay back thing for the positive attention my last wife experienced in the same place..... might be a pay ahead thing too.

I think the same thing.
We get more out of some things than warrants crowing about our altruism.

Yes it could be said that charity is really self interest masquerading under the form of altruism...it could be just a more refined form of selfishness, but there's nothing wrong with healthy self interest.

At the moment, I feel like I'm getting way more out of what I'm doing than I'm putting in. I feel a bit sheepish about that.
