I tore a finger tendon. It didn't hurt at all when I did it. Just a little num. Now as I have it in a splint for a few weeks it is starting to ache. So does a torn tendon ache when healing ?

benni2: how ya managed to tear a tendon in your finger(that would have made a decent poll)
It's usually the flexor tendon sheaf that tears slightly in the fingers, a common complaint for climbers, especially us older ones...
But yes, tendon tears are painful during the healing process. I tore my achilles tendon in 2009 requiring reconstruction surgery and I sill get plenty of pain in that area. I also snapped the tendon to my left thumb many years ago and needed a tendon transfer operation. We actually have a spare tendon running to our first finger and that can be transfered to the thumb. I have made a complete recovery from that injury but the healing process was painful.
I broke my wrist & it snapped my tendon, so needed surgery to reconnect the tendon in my thumb. That was 2 years ago & it STILL hurts! My surgeon declared that I shouldn't still have pain. What does HE know? Has he ever had the surgery?
My tendon still feels very 'tight,' even after hand therapy. Does anyone know WHAT causes this? My therapist nor surgeon had an answer...
