Education my dear man. The words we use limit us to perspective fraught with peril. The word exists for its use, we would not have endured its continuation were it not a separate ideal from the common term under which it falls in its association. Do you call a rose a flower and a carnation a flower, and a daisy a flower merely because flower is easier or do you desire to properly describe the exactness of what you perceive?
It was, and I laughed heartily as well. The useage of obscure words in these discourses merely is a tool to force them to question the ideal being proposed and then to educate themselves further before using the preconceived answer they lie in wait with. Combat is much like this as well. As we a sparring here no tactic is deemed unworthy, within the contrains of gentlemanly conduct of course.
True as it may seem. There are more people reading and not psoting than the ones in the forums. So, considering everyone i usually ask of people to maintain certain manners.
You know of course this bible begins at the start stating that adam and eve were placed in eden on day seven, in the first part of the bible. In another section it indeed factually reads that eve was not placed there until much later..
the bible itself is incongrous and defeats its own credulity with a plethura of contradictions.
It also espouses an eye for eye ... hardly compassion
Congratulations for exposing your ignorance my good man. Now the object here is to learn from the error of your ways. Ne'er enough time to repeat the same mistakes, no one lives long enough to make them all themselves never mind to live in repitition of them.
Decorum my man, decorum. Not slings and arrows please, this is a educated forum not an arena.
well my diageeing buddy, since I came upon this info some time ago, I am unable to debate and refute your testemony without returning to my evidence for factual presentation.
christianity is diff from judaism I concede.
once again I will attempt sleep, hoping that trains do not again zoom through my livingroom ringing bells and freakin whistles ..
you arrive here admittedly with a plan to 'affect debate' with unscroupulous means having nothing to do with the subject and expect decorum as your gift?
Should I tie my arm behind my back to defend against an idealogical assault initiated by yourself? Do the defenders leave their castle to meet the marching army on the plains? I will use my abilities to their fullest to defend my beliefs and I expect no quarter. But as this is discourse there are some rules, as asked of us by Riya. Decorum.
Not an assault my good man, but an observation and labelled judgement of the same.
I wll however accept decorum as you note yet in a broader sweep, to include the absence of manipulation. Yes please do come down from your castle, and leave your sword behind, one can only war with others intent on war. I offer you nothing of the sort.
there are at least 3 different descriptions of the seven days of creation in Genesis chapters 1-3, alone. That doesn't mean that they are not in correlation to each other. And the plethera of contradictions are not contradictory, when taken in context. As far as an eye for an eye you evidently have no concept of when or why that directive was given to the Israelites through Moses so I shouldnt be surprised that you have no Idea that it is not a contradiction of -- turn the other cheek -- stated several thousand years late in the new testiment. People don't usually believe what they read -- they read what that believe-- meaning they can not - or will not-clear their minds of their own preceptions in order to understand what is truely being said .
Yes, I agree he is an easy target. He is doing a little too much exercise, namely stretching the truth too far and jumping too quickly to conclusions.
It is my opinion he is going to sprain himself soon – again.
However this may be said for what he seems to be saying (after his moronic prejudgment of the whole of philosophy without a prior investigation of even one text in its entirety – ha ha)
I find Detente a man whose religious ideas and insights, however contrary to mine/ours, are most worthy of note!!! Particularly in defense of the respect owed to The Religious texts themselves regardless of those who are everywhere poor ambassadors of them. Enlightening others to the unfair treatment of the texts and making a plea to a necessary separation of their scrutiny! This surely can only advance us all in our critique of religion itself and thus of our human understanding of Religion on the whole – and again I have only praise for it! And I give praise where I feel it is due and vise versa.
there are actually hundreds of contradictions in the Bible and it is beyond me how people can continue to give the Book any credit whatsoever - last article I read counted them as 508 or somesuch.
The vindictiveness and unforgiveness (punishing unto the umpteenth generation etc) is enough to put even a cursory reader off for life - the problem lies in early indoctrination - get em young they say but Im sure happy I started to question it all when I did
Am not too aware of the Bible but the early indoctrination part amazes me too. It happens in Religions rese not christianity alone. Like stuffing a pudding with conditioning to say its brilliant. Like Ray would say , suppression !!!! Here the early ability to question and wonder is almost forced out of the way to spoonfeed predecided faith.
