KNenagh: Hi 2Intigued, it's one way of trying to get people to buy smaller cars for e. g. environmental reasons.
But it is steep in a lot of cases. I will go for a smaller/cheaper in tax car next time.
I can't see why they don't implement emissions testing like we have here instead of forcing people to buy smaller cars. Then again, it looks like they get a bigger bank for their buck doing it the way they are in Ireland.

Everything goes up here tax wise at the moment 2intrigued.
I see it works well in Germany(the getting to drive people smaller cars), they are an lot of small cars on the road and road tax for them is very cheap.

Guess it works for them...I don't like the concept of having the government force people into driving smaller cars when perhaps they need a large car for their family, job or whatever.

A lot happened in the industry to make emission friendly cars etc. because of this, which is a good development. The big cars just get unaffordable for a lot of people and people do have to think twice what they buy which isn't a positive development. If someone needs a bigger car for work you can get a different tax class for that which makes it cheaper.

Ontario motorcycle insurance has been by the size of the engine since longer than I can remember.

KNenagh: Just had a peek where you live, the roads around Christchurch were good but after a while you'll know the places where they wait with a laser.
I can remember some gravel roads on the South Island. Best holiday ever, would like to go back there.
KN, after the earthquakes the roads are rubbish around most of the city. The quakes came in waves and that's how the road are, all wavey now. Come back anytime

Sorry to hear that KM, I was there before the quakes.
I'm definitely back some day but not in the foreseeable future unfortunately.

So I had to change it..
