Personally, I'm an organ donor. I think it's a wonderful gift to someone. Donating my organs to research is also an exhillerating thought. By doing this, I can help come up with a cure to something and will aid scientist's on so many different levels. That's just my opinion. I realise after reading the above link, that it's not for everyone. I'm curious how many people are for or against it and what are your comments. Are you a donator?

I was a Organ donor, till it was a cost to the estate etc. Might do it again, IF they change the laws. I do like the idea of it, saves a lot of people.

Am an after death/organ donor and i think this should be for everyone by law, there is no need to feed the worms with something that could help a fellow human.

Conrad73: how many of your Organs would be even near compatible with someone else?
I looked into live organ donation for a family member some years ago.
With the latest anti-rejection medication, compatibility is less of an issue as it was previously.
The greater issues with live organ donation tend to be emotional, social, psychological, practical and financial.
In answer to the OP, I'm registered for cadaverous donation. I thought a law had been passed in the UK that cadaverous donation was automatic and one had to opt out, but a thread some time ago highlighted my error. Quite a few people registered as a result of that thread, so well done, you might be about to set off a train of events which will make a profound difference to some people's lives in the future.

Organ donation is a noble decision , would I donate my organs ? I'm not sure but if I were to do so I'd like to think they were going to a good responsible person , not a lowlife crim . I also don't believe as has been suggested that organ donation be made compulsory . I'm governed enough as it is from getting out of bed in the morning to getting back into it at night .

Not compulsory, but an opt out thing rather than an opt in thing.
I think perhaps it makes broaching the subject to bereaved families and friends a little more socially palatable.
There was much talk about a legal change in the UK, but I don't know how far it's come.
next thing we know we have arrived at Soylent Green! My Body doesn't belong to the frigging State neither in Life nor in Death!
I was laid up in Hospital for ten days 3years ago,and they brought in a Guy who had a Heart-transplant! He was feverish, with symptoms like a Flu which came as a reaction from his Body to the Heart! He needs anti-rejection-Drugs to the tune of several thousand swissFrancs a Month! One of the Drugs alone is priced at a couple thousand, but he needs a whole Cocktail of them! Constantly suffers from rejection-Symptoms! The Drugs are extremely strong antibiotic-like Substances to keep down his Immune System,so not to reject that Heart! The result is,that he has to have Skincancers removed at steady intervals, and has to be screened for other Cancers as well! He told us had he known all those Issues,he'd might have had Second Thoughts about the procedure and let Nature take it's Course!

Scott1812: I have donated and it gave me 13 more years with my brother!
nice one scott, lovely to hear about those extra years with youre brother... regarding the question i would donate, its one of those things in life that i intend to do but as yet havent made the relative steps required, but i will...and when we die i personally see no reason in holding on to them when they serve no purpose,,id be more than happy in the knowledge that an organ of mine could potentially help someone else to live...

It's not like I'll be needing any of them once I'm worm food. If I can offer someone a better chance of life when I'm dead, so I'm be more than happy for my carcass to be harvested for whatever is needed.

Yes!I am an organ donor. I strongly believe in the principle. So far I have donated my left hand (I am right handed) and one kidney. I have given skin to burns victims and hair follicles to bald people. My right leg, below the knee,is under negotiation. The recipient is willing to pay well for it whereas my previous donations were all free.

I am not donating my organs, just my brain. I figured at this age, most of my organs are used......

Just got a call from my surgeon. They want my right hand for a skilled craftsman who lost his hand in a bandsaw. I suppose he will make better use of it than I ever have.
