rasgumby: Have had that happen twice....just to find out in person that almost every word they said were lies. Just had to kick myself for believing the bull***t.
One, I even made a 1,700 mile round trip to meet.
Just ruined my trust in people online.
Is why I now say local only on my profile.
how did you handle the situation when you got there and discovered this person was not what they claimed to be. It must have been awkward and disheartening.
Considering that the average North American is 'slightly' overweight, what do you expect?
The title is 'Can you handle the truth?' - the poll was different to the question..........
If somebody tells me the truth I hope I can handle it - the truth can be unpleasant but better than a lie............ I prefer to be told the truth about how somebody thinks about me than told a lie, or simply ignored.
Average, American woman, is 5'3 and 163lbs... That isn't what I would consider average... but it is reality....
I haven't lied about anything in my profile, and actually update it if something changes. As you said, why lie when it will become evident upon meeting?
I see profiles of men a lot that have "average" when they're obviously very overweight, but that's about the only lie I've seen so far on them.

I'd be described as 'skinny' if I were an American as I'm 6'1.5" and a mere 189 lbs and have the same 42" waist I've had since I was 18. (ok, I squeeze into a 42" and should really wear a 43" [for some reason we don't have size 43" in the UK] but a 44" needs a belt to stay up!).
When I was married to my American wife I shot up in weight to almost 210 lbs.......... but the weight dropped off me when she left - without any need to diet.

The first time, I was to meet her, knew what she was driving.. saw her sitting there in her car.. she was at least 10 years older then me and older than stated, and looked like I would picture a 30 year trucker, rode hard and put away wet... and not by me I put on sun glasses and cap.. walked by her car to get a closer look.. just to be sure, OH HELL NO!!!!!! Got back in my car and left.
second one was the long drive, first day she didn't show up at all, second day showed up almost an hour late, extremely hung over (but not a drinker-LOL), her picture in profile was a gal 5'11" tall and around 155-70 pounds, very nice looking. but in reality.. she was well over 350 pounds. and not much conversation because for one.. I was mad that she had lied and two..she could tell that I was mad. also because she felt guilty. We had lunch and I left... QUICK!!!
actually, instead of a buffet... I should have taken her to a really dark restraunt !!
I just will not do lies!!! I am honest and expect the same.

Actually, depression and stress can make one gain weight, so I believe it. Lose the stress, lose the weight.
Toward the end of my third marriage I was diagnosed with PMDD (pre-menopausal dysphoric disorder) and put on anti-depressants. Funny, but when I left him, all of my symptoms cleared up on their own and I was able to go off the medication...I discovered I had PMDD, all right, only it was Pre-Mike Divorce Disorder!
I've never lied on my profile, but I changed it many times just to see what the differences make to some people. So your profile is just a reflection of what you want to show to people. There are many types of truths that one can express about themselves. Most people are scared of the money question for some reason. Others show only face pictures to hid their bodies. Some post pictures that are many years old. Are these lies?
Profiles are your creative opportunity to demostrate your ability to hit the outer limits of your ability to live with yourself if you do meet that special someone. How do you expect to keep her/him if you lie?

I have also have changed my profile several times only because I found it hard to describe myself the way I want people to portray me. So far it hasn't worked anyway
