I do love animals. They give so much unconditional love and good energy. I don't mean to hijack this thread but what I am about to say is very much related to the topic.

I have just made an appointment with the local Animal Hospital to have our beautiful Red Heeler X, Amber, to be euthanased next Tuesday evening. I am already a mess. The tumour in her left has become bulbous and has started to break through the skin. We have had the privilege of her friendship and company for three years when she was 8yrs old, from Animal Welfare. She had been badly abused in her life, so we want her to remember just the happy times since being with us. Everyone who has met her, adores her. I drop her off at my parents before going off to work, just as one would their grandchild. They love her so much.

Tomorrow morning, I will take her to the river so she can paddle along the water's edge, and over the next couple of days have everyone say their goodbyes. The other day, my GF from Greece, and who adores Amber, rang and I held the phone next to Amber's ears so she could hear Jenny's voice. I just informed my niece to pass it on to everyone home so they can say their goodbyes, too.

And she talks, boy does she talk to us. She looks into our eyes, listens and 'mouths' and talks back. I am so not looking forward to doing this. For me, she is absolutely no different from a human being.

I'm also an animal lover who has had to say goodbye to a "member of the family" in that same way, and my heart goes out to you. I respect your not being selfish and for putting your friend Amber's best interest first. Doing the right thing is always the best thing, though it is not always the easy thing. You will both be at peace now. angel

Thanks Lucid,

It's a horrible thing, isn't it. I just took her for a walk around the neighbourhood, and she loved it. And now I need to ask my parents whether they want me to tell them which day Amber is booked in. I'm between a rock and a hard place. They are in their early 80's and not telling them will save them the heartache of them knowingly saying their very last goodbye. I want to be able to take Amber there on Tuesday so they can spend time with her all day, and just her home and then to the hospital, and maybe tell them from there. It will be much less distressing for them.

If you've never seen it before, you should Google a poem called "If I Knew." Read that, and even share it with your parents; then all of you can make the decision of how to handle that final goodbye. Unfortunately, it's one of those situations that is distressing any way you choose to go. The hard choice is generally the right choice.

(Animals will always be your best friend till the end!!!... No matter what they are always there for u!) I had a wonderful cat named (Budweiser)who was 20 years old born in (1989) he was all white with brown spots i called him for short (My buddy) and a golden retriever named (Samantha) who was 14yrs old born in (1994). They where the nicest animals in the world, but just last year Samantha had to be put down her age was putting a toll on her and her condition was getting so bad that i couldn't take seeing her suffer anymore, it was hard to let her go, but it had to be done! My Buddy and Samatha where the best of friends between a cat and a dog,and also to me they where always with each other and when i was home they where always with me. When Samantha passed i seen how much Buddy looked for her and missed her that one month later when i woke up that morning and walked over to Buddy and he looked up at me and i kissed him on the head and said i love u Buddy then when i walked away his head and eye's followed me and just a few moments later he was gone. I was so upset to loose both of them so close together, but i knew they where young again playing again forever in heaven and waiting for me!!!...

Thank you, ready,

I did have a look at your gorgeous girl, Meg. What breed is she? I wondered some kind of special Spaniel?

And a baby goat, too is staying with you?

A part of me would love to do that, live on my 20 acres, with lil' house on the prairie. It is not being used, and don't even get time to visit. Some work opportunities might mean things might change and can stay up there regularly. Fingers crossed.

It's lovely to know you are living life the way you like it. Sharing it with some wonderful creatures.

You should here and run it for me.

That way I won't have to sell it!

It's hopeless here. Tenants in the country/rural areas seem to adopt this attitude that the world owes them something. So they don't pay rent, and leave the place and don't even keys back, leave a pile of rubbish behind, and so on. I would so love someone reliable living in the place. But to no avail.

That's why I am just hoping that this work thing might make it possible for me to spend time there. It has a newish cast iron bakers oven, as well as a modern electric cooker with halogen cooktop, new bathroom, tiled floors, power, mains water...
It's going to wastesigh

It was so funny on a Ryan Air flight from Florence to Amsterdam, this woman smuggled her tiny poodle on board. She refused to let the stewards take it to the rear with the baggage, even though it shouldn't have been there at all, but we were ready to take off.

She said she would put him under my seat in her bag, which she did. There was not a peep out of him, other than the tiniest squeal just once!
