Yes I loved animals! The Humane folks are making it rough on animals. If I see some cats that have been dumped out and are starving. If I feed them to get them fat and worm them during the winter while they scrap for food on their own. Then if the humanr folks come by they want to know if I have had MY CATS vacinated. Where is there shelter with heat! I have too many! They are going to fine me if I don't correct the situation. THey are not my cats! I was having pity. Then I have to decide what to do with the cats....I don't have the heart to dump them and would be in trouble too. I will not and can not shoot them (or the humane folks either.) So do I the next time I see a starving cat, do I run them down with my truck. The shelter does not have enough food for all the animals. So they kill em! Crazy!

But, they get paid....they make money. Just like having a non profit organization. The head dude gets paid a good wage. Everyone gets paid good, except the volenteers. Sounds like the head dude figured out a profit meathod for him in the not for profit organization. if you want to get rich....give away free stuff.....it works, if you lie just right!Crazy!

venere08: It was so funny on a Ryan Air flight from Florence to Amsterdam, this woman smuggled her tiny poodle on board. She refused to let the stewards take it to the rear with the baggage, even though it shouldn't have been there at all, but we were ready to take off.

She said she would put him under my seat in her bag, which she did. There was not a peep out of him, other than the tiniest squeal just once!

I love animals. I was raised on a farm. I did horse rescue for the past 10 years until I divorced. I also took in other pets as well. But my goal was mainly horses. It was very rewarding. I am also getting my degree in Veterinarian Medicine. Animals are actually loving and affectionate. I have found throughout all my rescue quest etc.

I was a Realtor for 5 years and it was nothing to show property and find and abandoned animal that the owners had left behind. If I happened to be showing they would wind up going with me. Same way with dumped or abandoned that you would find on the road. If I couldn't catch it I would feed it. I kept dog and cat food in my car. I have also stopped many times and put out food for the starving.

Some people tell me I am crazy. But, I don't care if it make you feel good you should do it. I've also learned that mutts make the best pets. They live long healthy lives, have good temperaments, are very dedicated, and can be very obedient. They are not interbred to limit the gene pool like pedigrees. And, there are a lot of unwanted mutts in the shelters that never get adopted that are perfectly healthy that would make great pets. So next time you think about getting a pet you should consider adopting or rescuing. It is very rewarding for you and the pet.

I so agree with you there. Amber came from the Animal Shelter, and had been badly abused with previous owner. But she is the best dog ever. Absolutely no trouble, and the easiest dog to train. She learned the 'OFF' command in a snap, and it has worked in just about every situation known. There was one other I adopted years and years ago, and he was so tiny, he fit int eh palm of my hand when he was a puppy.

Our next dog will again be adopted from Animal Welfare. Had we not adopted Amber, she would have been put down. No-one was going to take onan 8yr old, Red Heeler with a sign on her cage stating to keep her away from children under 12, etc. The male attendant who had taken her for a walk while I was looking to find where he had taken her after I viewed her, nearly cried when he heard I had come to take her home. He said he had become so worried about her cuz no-one wants a dog like that.

venere08: I do love animals. They give so much unconditional love and good energy. I don't mean to hijack this thread but what I am about to say is very much related to the topic.

I have just made an appointment with the local Animal Hospital to have our beautiful Red Heeler X, Amber, to be euthanased next Tuesday evening. I am already a mess. The tumour in her left has become bulbous and has started to break through the skin. We have had the privilege of her friendship and company for three years when she was 8yrs old, from Animal Welfare. She had been badly abused in her life, so we want her to remember just the happy times since being with us. Everyone who has met her, adores her. I drop her off at my parents before going off to work, just as one would their grandchild. They love her so much.

Tomorrow morning, I will take her to the river so she can paddle along the water's edge, and over the next couple of days have everyone say their goodbyes. The other day, my GF from Greece, and who adores Amber, rang and I held the phone next to Amber's ears so she could hear Jenny's voice. I just informed my niece to pass it on to everyone home so they can say their goodbyes, too.

And she talks, boy does she talk to us. She looks into our eyes, listens and 'mouths' and talks back. I am so not looking forward to doing this. For me, she is absolutely no different from a human being.

My heart reaches out to you venere08. A most difficult time is in front of you. Amber will miss you terribly, and you her, but she'll be in a better place, in peace and not suffering.

When I was younger, we had to put Shane down when he was 12. He was our beloved Collie who I cherished. Had cancer and he went to heaven in 1977. Then in 1992, we had to put Tyler down, at only 6 years old; again due to cancer. He was our feisty Bernese Mountain Dog. I still have a lock of their hair tucked safely in an Angel trinket box.

I found this in a newspaper many years ago after Shane passed and I still have it today; although it has yellowed. If Amber could talk, this is what she would say.....

A Dog's Plea

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend for no heart in all this world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail, when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements.

I ask no greater glory than to have the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with water for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And my friend, when I am old and no longer enjoy good health and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going, I am not having fun.

Please see that my trusting life is taken gently.

I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

Know in your heart, you're doing the best for all. You are in my thoughts.

That would be so hard. comfort

Hope you can one day soon live where you can have them. Places are becoming much more lenient these days, as it is increasingly recognised even by the medical profession, that having an animal is therapeutic for us, at the very least.

You might be surprised if you made a request to have a small animal. Exceptions are made everyday, and even apartment managers might be hard pressed, legally to enforce you getting rid of the animal if it causes no problem to anyone else.

Might be worth a try.

DoznEggs: Ziggy will be waiting for Amber, of this I am sure. Tell her to look for him on He'll be the one with his tail a wagg'in.

Oh, yes, of-course! And little Guaglio, my son's ginger cat, given to him by his friends as an 18th gift. He and I were inseparable, and Amber and he got on so well. Every morning, I would hold him against my chest and he gave me the most fabulous energy, I was charged up for the day. I so miss him. His young life came to a tragic end on hte main road, and he was 'pancaked'. It was the worst thing for me to go scrape him off the road. He had tire marks and had become a piece of flat hide. He is buried in our front garden under his favourite Aussie native bushes. Amber has been determinedly digging at his grave for ages. They, too will be reunited. That will give them the greatest pleasure.

Thank you, Eggs for reminding me of this.
