Ok, say you've been seeing someone for some time, and you're both equally serious about the relationship, how important is it for you to get married???

I always say I would never get married again..BUT truth be told I would if I was asked by the right man...sooo to me it doesn't matter either wayyyyyyyy...It's what we would both want and decide....
The piece of paper is too hard to wipe your butt with, worthless to me. I won't say never though, I've done all sorts of strange things in this lifetime already.

I've been married and I'd do it again for one simple reason - it gives your partner rights that they wouldn't have outside of marriage. Say, in the event of an accident, you were unconscious and a doctor needed to know what to do. Well your partner, if not married to you, would not be in a position to give advice and your family, who you might not want involved, would then be consulted.
I guess marriage makes your partner 'family' and that's what a union based on love is all about. or have I got it wrong?

I see what you're saying... I can only speak for here, you can have the same rights as a married couple have, not being married... so here it really is just a piece of paper I guess...
I think it`s very important. If you get married in Church infront of God then it`s not a piece of paper, it`s obligation to cherish God`s will which is to love eachother, but also fight together, put up with eachother difernces and stay strong no metter happens. Then there is not mine or his will, which is selfish, but the will of God which two of them put first and which become their own will. I know two of these 'orthodox christian' marriges and only those give me hope that marriage is 'very important'

here in America this is a good reason to be married also. A doctor told once to get married for ins. reasons when I was in danger of another heart attack (everything is in normal ranges now thanks to diet excercise ect.)I had to laugh at his suggestion. But I would like to married agian I think. I used to say never no way ,but I feel differant now for some reason ,not sure why ,I think as Burley says it just makes all family
