How would this solve the problems of the U.S. today?

I think people need to learn to be responsible for themselves first. Not dependent on the Government. Thats how I have survived!!!dunno

Guess it all depends on the affects the last eight years have had on you!!

More of the same will only drive us further from the positive progress most Americans would like to see.

Your question implies it has to be one or the other. It also implies that "history" is determined from one president to the next and not over the course of several administrations. Surely you're not THAT narrow minded????

Certainly I could find many things to criticize about the Bush era. He made mistakes but he also kept us safe. Obama, on the other hand, has already done more HARM to this country than we can possibly manage in this lifetime.

If I had to make a choice, it would be an easy one.

The founding fathers of America were against making policies based on religious influence. The Republicans base their ideology on there beliefs in God..which is going against the grain of the original intent.

I understand this, and I applaud you..but what about those that whose circumstances were/are as such that their situation is out of their control?

And please don't say that it is something that everyone can change if they only had the fortitude and determination to do so. It just doesn't work that way for everyone.

All I can say, is give him a fighting chance. Keep in mind that it is still very early in Obama's Presidency.

You mean that course that only saw one major terror attack in 8 years. Spending 1/3 of the Obama's adminstration. Growth in certain segments of the economy. A stock market that is nearly 1/3 greater than today. A country with three major auto firms. Banks without gov't ownership.

Not sure, Driven.....but GWB is starting to sound a lot better.

You really need a better understanding of both parties and how things have evolved over the past few decades. It's true that religion has now become more of an issue than it used to be, but I would seriously not characterize the republican party solely on this criteria. The fundamental differences between the belief system of both parties are so vast that religion is really just a blip on the radar.

Why he died is still anyone one guess.

I don't see how President Obama being linked to Tutenkamon is going to improve US & Muslim relationship. Tutenkamon was not Muslim.

I posted this little bit of info earlier in a different post, Driven. Maybe you missed it.

General George Washington after winning the war of revolution was invited to talk to Congress. He said (if memory serves me)....that he gave the war outcome to a Holy God and that he was now commending the country in that Holy God's hands.

Most of founding father all a deep sustaining belief in God. Finding me one that was a athesist or agnostic?

What they did not want was a Gov't that religion where a king could be crowned by a church....as was being done in much of Europe. King George had been crowned by the Church England.

So they placed a separation of government and church clause in the Constitution. But had a brief prayer prior to every session of Congress. Had oaths of office done with a Bible.

And lastly, there are a more than a few DEM that are Christian as well.

ttom500: --------------------------^------------------------
I thought you were against those unfair international wire taps?
That invasion of privacy that the DEM were all concerned about.

Here you have these 17 Chinese....all locked up in GITMO....and
their sole contact with the world is the net. And you are not going to let them have private contact? So they can contact women, propose online, get engaged and be able to leave GITMO.

DEMs are cutting back on these guys social development with this
wire tapping program. Sounds awful unfair to me. Maybe a lawsuit involved here....
Wire taps is not always bad and the new american government will use it as well and this time totaly legal way and by acceptence of american judges when ever it is necessary. Those who need private contact cans end a pot card and letters of course and "we" will check any single of those messages as well so nauthy stuff is not going gettign around necessary filters of terror suspects.

The new commandor in chief is a differnet guy and it is good he wants to take care of this great planets security because of care and not because of greed and personal benefit for his own friends and relatives and supporters as the former crook on power did, not long time ago.... what ever the new Boss thinks is necessary for the sake of security then.... Of course there are..but still, policies should be based on people and the real needs of others, not what others deem God should want/think..and many conservatives have this mindset. Not all, but many.

It astounds me that people sometimes say that they know what God is thinking/wanting for us to do, or what God is thinking/saying to us.

I am not saying in my post he can. So far he has been lucky as I see it. The proof will be if the moderate Muslim begin to trun in radical Muslims that are planning attacks both in their countries and elsewhere.

If speech last accomplish that...even to a small degree...he is on the right path. But if we don't any major increase in tip...in say Iraq, Afhganistan or Pakistan....then it was mostly hot air last night.

Driven, what is leading to winning in Iraq.....was when the Iraqi began to tip. The problem is AlQeada is in a number of countries....we need tips in a number of countries.

President Obama reached out to them. Open hand and new beginning.
But takes to two.....hold hands and two to walk to a new beginning.

Which is why I say give Obama a chance to show/prove to America and the world that a change in relations between differing countries can be possible.

Remember how Bush kept repeating that it takes time for change to come?
