No one leaves for attention. They start a thread for the attention. The OP is asking why they start a thread stating they are leaving? Most are in agreement it is for the attention.

I took a leave of absence from this place, because i was doing a job for a couple of weeks where the interweb was not availiable... that and i did need to take a break from here too... although i did say i would be back.
I posted a thread just as an advisory to the wonderful friends i have made on here to let them know what was happening, it means i dont have to email them one by one that would take forever and im too lazy to do that....

Good for you! That´s exactly what I mean, if you leave for awhile, and let your friends know, fantastic, but Posting Threads or Polls threataning to leave for one reason or another is total rubbish to me!

Ashes: You don´t, well, you may have noticed, I have been on longer than you, and now, rareley post at all...so, why and in what way do you take this?
When I joined the forums in February I was attacked and bashed pretty quickly by two certain people. I was hurt and truthfully couldn't take it so I left but didn't do a thread that I was leaving. After about a month I came back under a different name because I missed the communication between posters. This time I was prepared for how people express themselves and chose to ignore it. If I left again, I wouldn't do a thread about it unless it was for a temporary leave such as illness. When I do threads it is to encourage conversation and opinions between people. I don't write about the misery of my life unless it helps someone else to tell of my experiences.

That, or because I've found a good, solid love and my life is moving on in positive directions that leave me no time to remain on here, would be the two reasons that I would post such a thread.
I agree that those who do so to have others beg them to stay are just seeking attention. And I never beg anyone to stay. I wish them luck, and say good-bye.
