a society is judged on how it treats those at the bottom..."a dog starved by the city gate, predicts the downfall of the state"- blake. in the u.s. constitution it states that all men are created equal and the rights of these people is "universal", meaning regardless of nationality, the right to health care cannot be granted some and not others, for doing so would only create special classes of citizens.
Yes, well...so is his right to pay taxes to support the system that supports them. ...14% of our economy goes to paying interest on debt, war and the militarization of space are enormously costly both now in in the future. the value of the dollar spirals downward and does anyone get upset about these expenditures, no, they get us to turn against ourselves, class warfare...we must have universal healthcare for anyone who requests it, they all pay taxes and s.s. even though they will never receive benefits...
Oh we're plenty upset about the expenditures, but that's not the topic here. The better question is what percentage of our current health care costs are attributed to our giving illegal immigrants free health care...
reconmarine: Should immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally be allowed to be a part of any new Health Care plan or should they be deported due to the fact that they are illegals?
I would suggest that illegal aliens do gain access to the US Health care system. We have seen expose' reporting on pregnant woman coming north of the border for their births. We have seen some cheat the system with false documents and false medical insurance claims. We have seen others in the our ERs on a cash and credit basis with fake ID.
We also have illegal aliens do treat the system with respect, I know that as well. So this is not all the 12-14 m illegals in the country that get into health care scams.
Even with a passed universal health care bill, this is not going to change. The question is will it be less or more under a large FED gov't agency system? I have to think that it would be more. Why?
Well with all American covered by National Health care....a simple fake ID will get you medical care. Fake IDa are easy to acquire most under 19 college students have them. Hospitals and DRs will be less vigilant to refusing a questionable ID knowing the the FED gov't is going to pick up the tap.
free? don't they have taxes taken out of their paychecks? don't they pay into a bogus s.s. account from which they will never receive benfits? twice i have seen hispanics denied medical service unless they paid cash, once i paid, the other time i did nothing and have felt guilty ever since. again, the constitution says all rights are universal...

Not always do they pay into the S.S. or taxes....I know of 14 that were being paid under the table on a dairy arm not far from here.....they were caught and the farmer got into a bit of trouble over this...Why don't they enter the states legally ...is it because they cannot pass the regulations that legal immigrants have to abide by....as the saying goes "Whats good for the gander is good for the goose"
Maybe I am misunderstanding something, but are you guys saying that an illegal alien who has an illegal job, who gets knocked over by a car/bus/truck whatever, should be left to die??????
Because they are unable to pay for or maybe understand how to get a visa
What about the girl, brought over from abroad by some wealthy American, used and abused and kicked out when he's bored, she has no money nothing and suffers a heart attack, do you just expect her to crawl away like some bug,
I am sorry, this is not a civilized way to treat an animal let alone a human.
My understanding was that there were two tiers of medical system, one is payed for by tax and is free to use, the other is financed by insurance, health plans etc, is this no long the same?

There are exceptions to everything Riz.....but generally no they should not be givin free health care if they enter the country illegally....emergencies are of course unavoidable and compassion should always be ones guide..

I'm mosty definitely NOT saying that. My point is that you cannot "reform" our health care system without first CORRECTING the major problems which are draining the system. We have always provided health care for anyone in need...but ILLEGAL aliens come here illegally BY CHOICE and with complete disregard of our law. Why??? So they can feed off of our system free of charge and then send the money home to their families...
I don't think I've ever heard one American complain about LEGAL aliens. Our borders are open and so are our arms. All we ask is that people afford the same respect to us as we do to them...
jessejess47: I don't know the politics involved in all that ...however it does IMO cheapen the rights of those that enter the country legally ...I do not claim to have the answers ...but if one can enter the country without proper paperwork in order then all should ....if one has to have paper work in order then all should ...seems pretty simple to me

But that is not always true, I worked in both Canada and America, I paid taxes in both countries, I applied over and over and over again to get a work visa and was refused each time, yes it is easy to get false papers, it was what I had to do,it was not my fault the immigration dept would not issue a visa.
I did not drain the system, did not claim SS did not send money home.
When your immigration dept gets its act together then maybe a vast proportion of those illegal can actually pay their way and help your country's economy recover

The system does need to be improved, but I have scores of friends who managed to come in the proper way. Whether it's difficult or not...immigration is a still a gift that we give of our choosing, and not a god given right. The fact that it's difficult does not justify willfully breaking the law and taking the "easy" route in.

good luck with that dear. if you read the human history, you will find out that migration has been an integral part of any civilization...people will simply move from one place to another to better their lives. necessity doesn't understand any law. period.
And if we stay on topic here, the real source of the problem here is that our health care system is in trouble and we need to fix it. Raising taxes and throwing more money at the problem will not help anyone. Illegals are draining the system extensively and we need to fix the leaks everywhere we can. I have never said we should throw illegals out, but we do need to get them to pay into the system before they send their checks home to their families.
jessejess47: why? It is avoiding the main issue here...they entered illegally....
well, again, "legal" and "illegal" are some artifical terms...these terms mean very little to persons who want to better their lives..who want to get out of some desperate situation. nobody can defy the law of economy and reality.

Well the good news is we have the right and the ablity to put a stop to it. We're just playing nice right now...
the main issue here according to the thread is should "illegal" immigrant be able to get health insurance. the answer is "yes". you can punish them being entering the country illegally BUT a very basic human necessity can't and mustn't be denied to a HUMAN.

PeachesandRay: NO FRIKKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they are here illegally, they have no rights to anything a legal citizen can get
It's a shame one of the Bush's signed a bill allowing them the right to withdraw SS benefits
Instead of deportation, make them kneel at the border facing their homeland. .22 rounds are real cheap
Earl
Soooo your solution is to kill them am I right? Great. Lets hope at no time in your life you ever find yourself in a situation where someone thinks pumping YOU with bullets is the answer when a simpler solution could have been found.
WhatUwish4: Well the good news is we have the right and the ablity to put a stop to it. We're just playing nice right now...
yes, you have the right to stop it of course. But let's not mix the very basic human rights of a human with an issue of artificial terms like "legal" and "illegal"...no human is illegal.

We should not stop ANYONE from having health care....compassion dictates that....but this thread is not ONLY about health care it is equally about legal and illegal immigrants...this changes the thread immensely, it brings the factor in that illegals should not get into the country in the first place so therefore should not be receiving the care at all as they would not be here in the first place

I am Mexican and I am legal in this country. It took four years to be legal, and tons of tons of money to be LEGAL. It is no easy to become with green card. Now, I work, I pay my taxes legally, and I am good and I would say better person than many American Citizens. So, everybody that come here, must go by all these procedures...
