Oh yes, I had an original copy of the Manchester Evening News
until very recently. I gave it to a friend who collects that
kind of thing.
I remember the crash vividly. It was the first and only time
ever saw my father cry...and he was a staunch city supporter.blues

I know I'm biased but I think he was/is very over rated. Yes he has fancy footwork and he scores a few goals (many of which are from free kicks that he won by diving) but soccer is about much more than that. He has no work ethic, he dives, cheats and whinges his way through matches. he is not even in the same stratisphere as best and Cantona in my opinion. I still can't figure out the best player in the world thing. If you were being generous you could make an argument for top 5, but number 1? Forget it. The only way that Ronaldo should be compared to Best in my opinion is that like Best in his heyday, he'd get up on a gust of wind.

ive seen edson arantes de nascimento thats pele to me and you ,di stafano , eusabio play, and best can live with them then cantona a really good player ,beckham can bend it and dangerous at crosses and free kicks and ronaldo a stepover trick artist. no comparison

robpacciani: 1. Cantona
2. Beckham
3. Ronaldo
4. Best

thus is only because i never saw best play. cantona was magic, beckham was very pleasing on the eye for his technique, ronaldo was excellent but only when he felt like it..

I think if you look up George Best on the net and watch him play you might just change your rating.

Here you go.

Check out the tackle on Bestie by Ron 'Chopper' Harris.

Would Ronaldo have stayed on his feet, I dont think so.

That's the difference.

The hype on those four was exceptional.

Bobby Charlton was a better all round player
than any of them.

He mostly played number nine or eight - but if
he ever put on the seven.........

your letting personal feelings get in the way because you dont like him,
hes fitter and spends more time than best and cantona training
and working in the gym,
his stats for goals dribbles shots shots on target goals with left foot right foot are better than anyone you have mentioned,
he is the best theres no argument,
and as for him getting his goals from free kicks thats a very small percentage,
as i said im not his biggest fan but the stats speak for themselves

I have to agree with Kev here. He scores a few goals? 41 goals in a season is way more than a few. Give the guy some credit even if he is a united player and you hate united. Ronaldo is quick, he never stops practicing even after all the other lads have gone home so i don't know how you can say he has no worth ethic. The only player i have ever seen to work harder than Ronaldo last season was Rooney.

I think Ronaldo deserves to be compared to Best, Cantona and Beckham. As for world player of the year, lets not forget he won the European Cup with United that season. That's usually a huge factor in deciding who wins World Player of the year. Like i said, scoring 41 goals is no mean feat either. I guarantee if the same player played for Liverpool and acted in the exact same manner, you would be comparing him to Daglish and all the other great number 7s Liverpool have had.

Oh and as for diving, its funny how Drogba is just bad if not worse but yet he gets very little stick. As regards quality though, he couldn't even lace Ronaldo's boots nor has he won nearly amount of honors or personal accolades.

George Best was an unbelievable dribbler, and had
the ability to go past player after player.
No one who saw him doubts his talents.
He was, however, incredibly greedy.
Often out for his own glory - and was not a
good team player.
He must have driven his teamates mad...
Now that I think of it Ronaldo and Cantona
had similar tendencies - though Ferguson wouldn't
have tolerated them to the same extent....
A previous contributor made a great suggestion in
Bryan Robson....
Personally, I repeat the view (ignoring number 7)
that Bobby Charlton was the best ever Utd. player...
All a matter of opinion, of course...

George Best. No probs. Not only a number 7 but could play all over the park.
