greed leads people to do all they can to maximize their profits, if their is sufficient competition then they will have to invent new technologies to sell and they will encourage their employees to give better customer service and the best way to do that is to pay them good and provide excellent benefits thats y i say greed is good.

That is partially true...but I don't greed is the right word...because when people get to greedy it is strictly how can they personally make more money. Greedy people are not going to pay their employees more or give them more benefits, instead they will look for people who will do the same work for less money (or even send the jobs overseas).
But people that want to maximize profit and improve their technology would be more likely to do what you say with their employees. But, I think they are not necessarily greedy, but they want their business or company to excel and be the best.

LuisPortal305: i want to know what people think of profit
Profit is good, EXCEPT in particular situations/commodities where by which the consumers are forced (either by circumstances or by regulations and or laws) to purchase from a select few, non competing entities. That is extortion...Does your state require car insurance? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Excessive profit is bad... when the CEO of a company is pulling in Bonus' that are thousands of times greater than the average pay of the company's employees, something is askew. Greed is very bad.
What ever happened to CEO's like Lee Iakoka (sp?) who took the reigns of Chrysler and made the company profitable for a yearly salary of only $1 a year? Today's CEO's and CFO's want to be paid millions in "retention bonus'" just for continuing to work for the company each year, and they want extreme "golden parachute" clauses in their employment contracts that make it almost impossible for the company to ever fire them... how is that right?
Finally, there're all the companies that paid their executives huge bonus' this last year in spite of the fact that the American Taxpayers were the only thing keeping their company's from bankruptcy! They got millions in bonus' on our hard earned dollars.

Government creates the problems that we encounter today, if the government stayed out of it there would be more competition and the market would regulate itself

So yeah, profit can be very bad indeed.

the CEO make the decisions for the company that keep them afloat and the CEO that got bonuses with our tax dollars were the new hired CEO because the ones who bankedrupt the company were fired,

Profit within reason is necessary to generate the necessary capital for governments to tax so that they can do whatever it is they do. Without profit, we revert back to hunter/gatherer societies.

profit is for the individual and the government should only be able to take a low amount, just enough to run the duties given to it by the the Constitution, which are to provide a currency, provide for the common defence and promote the general welfare, secure the blessing of liberty. outside these function government is obscelete, it works like a rotten fruit that damages everything it contacts

That was a very good post Michael, kudos to you. it's Iacocca btw. lol He is an inspiration to me. They broke the mold when they made him.
Lee Iacocca Says: ‘Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder! We’ve got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we’ve got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can’t even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, ‘Stay the course’
yes exactly the reform that is needed is the deregulating of private insurance companies, they should be able to sell across state lines and the employer based system needs to be eliminated and you will see competition rise and prices fall mal-practice reform to

we need another Reagan to set this ship back on the right course,
