trish123: Riya, i think the truth is that they ignore the common man (i.e. US) and they just get along with keepin society at its peaceful equilibriumist best - if it was really democracy, our votes would count

riyablossom: Population explosion ... i hate tot hink of it. I think even mandatory sterilisation if was feasible would not help. Its " mentality ' that needs a little insightful change. When people know their economic situation and that they can afford a decent life for 1 child why cant they figure out " no more " ... this is simple logic , simpler than children are God's gift or i would just love to have 2 more.

hunger, homelessness, poverty, diseases, wars -- world problems especially in underdeveloped countries. hopefully training, development and funding will solve some of it.

I believe its predominantly a lack of caring that seems to be ever more prevalent as time goes on.

A "don't care" attitude begets a "don't care" atittude begets..... and so on. As with "not my problem", "doesn't affect me"... etc, etc.

I think many of those listed and the dilemmas we face today stem from that very approach we seem to have adopted.

Whereby, hundreds of years ago, even unil fairly recent times, people were born, lived all their lives, and died within their own communities and everyone knew each other. These communities relied on each and every member. As money per se would have been scarce, trading was commonplace. The farmer would probably trade provisions for having his horse shoed, and the dentist would treat the baker in return for some bread, etc.

Now we have all moved to various parts of the world, away from our original communities and even families. We have worked on being more independent and self-sufficient. Therefore, the perception is that we have so much more at our fingertips and no need for dependency on others, in turn becoming all the more selfish and self-absorbed.

Sadly, that is the PERCEPTION... when one really thinks about it, we do STILL actually need each other!!

Sorry for the waffle.... JMO. cheers

riyablossom: Which according to you is the foremost problem that the world faces today and why ?

What solution or ideas do you suggest to improve the situation ?PS : No attacks.

Biggest problem in my mind is population. Its the overabundance of people on this planet that are consuming natural resources at an alarming rate. The deforestation of rainforests in order to provide housing and farmland to feed those masses, the destruction of natural wildlife habitat for similiar reasons, the over fishing of the world oceans, to provide more food.... pollution of the air and waters, something has gotta give.....you can only get so much water out of a sponge.......... the worlds population needs to be drastically reduced.... it would bring longevity to future generations.

This is a valid contributor to all the issues.
Fewer people need fewer resources, true but ...
The city stresses are lowered by fewer inhabitants, eg lowered crime & higher morale
Battles over religious ideals are less likely to turn into hate acts(partial eradication of Terrorism)
Territorialism become lessened (lowering human rights abuses & more reduction of Terrorism)
Global warming can be more actively addressed as well as food shortages & overall healthy life styles

Humans live as though we're parasitic instead of cognoscente & responsible.
Perhaps a culling of this herd would bring the over all health of the group back up to par.
Unfortunately, we fight over any little issue possible. Can you imagine the war over who culls & who gets culled?
Even by choosing to be more selective with our breeding practices, we slit our own throat. Understand, if the conscientious choose to hold out on breeding, to whom does the bulk of the population fall?
We lose, no matter what.
Parasites indeed.
