Costapacket: Maggie made unpopular decisions that benefited Britain, she made the decisions that nobody else would make, she had one hell of a pair of balls!
Didnt mean to quote you Costa...it's just some words from a song written in 2000, but just as relevant today.

rohaan: why does Labour get the vote so often if so many people don't like it?
I cant answer that..R..but I believe they should all have been facing charges for the expenses scandal..if I were to steal money from them I would be charged..what they did was stealing..

No kiddin'. We just had a raft of that same over here. No one seems to lose their job over it. Just usually get paid leave. Oh I get it--the penalty for taking what isn't yours and not doing your job is to get given what isn't yours for not doing your job!! Nutty nutty world. (a college administrator here some years back was found guilty of stealing the poor students' funds for tuition, and let go. And continued to be paid full salary for 2 and 1/2 years afterward. WTF, I say WTF!!!!!!

JAN_is: I view her in the same way as you.
I have to admit though, living in Spain for almost 6 years has meant I´m not fully up to date on the political scene in the UK other than what I read online and hear from family. I was a champion for Gordon Brown, and I still believe he is a highly intelligent men, although lacking in social skills and charisma. Unfortunately he has been set up and seen in a bad light recently which hasn´t helped at all.

Costapacket: Labour bought the miners vote with tax payers money propping up a unviable business that was crippling Britain, Labour had borrowed to the point the Britain was almost bankrupt.
Maggie came along and in 9 years paid off almost all of the debts Labour had left, she made tough unpopular decisions that Labour didnt have the balls to make, she stood up to the miners she did wonders for this Country!
If the coal business was viable now it would be running now wouldnt it!!!
God Bless Saint Maggie....
No they sealed off the mines and it's incredibly expensive and highly dangerous to undertake the reopening of coal mines. Ironically with the price of oil today, over the longterm it would of been cheaper to maintain the coal mines and never to have closed them than to continue to import oil, and at least with the mines the money people spent on power went to wages for British people so therefore improves British society as opposed to an Arab Sheikh or some bent Russian oligarch.
The unions were unproductive and demanding too much granted but the industry themselves need to be made efficient and not just abandoned. Look at Britain today, we perhaps have 30-40% of the people either on welfare, engaged in some useless art of pencil pushing, selling mobile phone insurance or a similar poxy service sector 'job', you have to look further back than New Labour to understand why it is this way.
