Veritaas: Depends on what you class as "well". Peoples standards of living differ greatly.
Exactly. It´s still relatively cheap to live here in Spain, but I could never maintain the lifestyle I had in the UK on my salary here. I´m much happier though and that´s far more important.
For me living well / comfortably means being able to have one biggie holiday a year plus two or three weekend breaks, eating out and going to the cinema at least once a week, buying as many books as I want, spending about €500 every three months on clothes and always having the bus fare home

Well, I bet you'll get a lot of letters from Pakistan and Nigeria after this :))

You have a good life there Jan and have obviously worked hard for it too.
The local food markets here are relatively cheap and also local shops, competition brings the price down, so one can have a relatively healthier lifestyle without breaking the bank and shopping at Waitrose, Tescos etc week in and week out.
Have to say miss all the fresh fruit and veg in Spain.
Orla2010: how much do you pay for 1L of milk for example?[/quote
The milk I buy is €1.64 a litre. How about for you?
Ok, i must admit you really pay much more :) 1L of semi skim milk here is about 0,71 euro cent. Some brands more, some less. But of course you have really bigger wages there...

I don't think I've spent that in the last three years!

Orla2010: Yes, it is totally subjective.

Living well to me is as long as I have a roof over my head and food on the table. In its most basic form.
Well do the maths. And remember you asked how much it costs to live well in Ireland.
Decent One Bedroom Apartment in Dublin - 900 Euro a month Car, Insurance, Tax and Petrol - 250 Euro a month Food and Bills. (TV,Internet,Phone,Electricity,Gas)-500 a month. Night out and Entertainment - 800 a month. Pension and VHI - 200 a month. Clothes, Lunches, Papers, Mags, Sundry Expenses -150 a month.
Total 2800 Euro into your pocket. Thats about 4000 before Tax. So about 50k a year to live an OK lifestyle.
