night_whispers50: Ever since history has been recorded there has been one thing in common, no matter what country, they always had a belief in a God, not the same one... but a God... most of the time it pertained to the sky or heavens, but no one will ever know no matter how much the topic is debated, but why would every place on earth no matter how remote have the same belief. in the end we will find out, till then it is all a guessing game
God is a rather small word with a verg huge meaning/range....
very true, but there was always a place of worship or some type of ceremony involved, no matter how remote or desolate the area, and had no means of any other contact with other areas, great topic

Thanks....
I am interested in the percentages of beliefs of the CS community as I have my reasons for asking ....
And I only wanted the stance of CS members ...not say the world as a whole...
StressFree: I should point out that the term "God" in the post I made is not in any way the Biblical God with a white beard who sits up in the clouds on his throne and controls everything.
Anyways, I gotta get in my workout and then I have a conference to attend to. I'll be back to express my own thoughts and words of this concept and expand on it.
im a christian and i know god doesnt control everything and i doubt he has a beard
god never said he controls everything
god isnt santa clause or a ruler we must please and be perfect for
God Father, Son and Holy Spirit...in one Why I know...cos since we live, and we're in this world, all his words live in us, otherwise we would be like wild animals without law...All miracles from creation till now, testify who 's "HIM"...
hi wulfy your outlook is depressing for me- except wait.... i am so disliked i will never be forgotten- so nevermindim all good in the living forever department
Why is it depressing? I merely don't believe in any supernatural stuff unless it's proven first. So far no religion has done that...
demonfairy: I think we all want to believe in some form of life, after we die.In my heart i believe there is a god,in my mine im not sure.I do know that when one dies this body is gone, whether theres a spirit that lives on is a mystery,i hope so.Maybe we will be reborn in another body,or go to another demition in spirit form. What i do know is that people need to believe that deadth is not the end...everyone needs hope.
Most would agree with you, but not all do. I for one don't feel the need to believe I'll continue to exist in spirit form after I die, nor do many other atheists.
I accept the fact that once I'm dead I'm no more, nothing depressing about that so long as I feel I've had a fulfilling life.

That's because people always felt the need to explain the world around them, but at the start of civilization, they hadn't the necessary scientific means of explaining the natural phenomena happening around them.
That combined with fear of the unknown + death created the belief in supernatural beings that 'care' for us, as a way to feel more comfortable with our existence.

Yes christians (of whatever denomination) have never acted like wild animals in the name of 'god', burning, raping, killing eh?
I have to admit that I would have though that CS as a whole leaned towards the non believing side ...but the poll seems to be pointing in another way...
Also I find the break down interesting as well ,the men over 40 is 22% pretty much across the board
Myself, I prefer to keep most of my beliefs private. Some people seem to dislike it when you don't agree with their pet ideals.
Though we are powered by electrical impulses. so once we're kaput, like electricity, we gots to go somewhere. Then again, maybe the belief of a lifestream has some merit to.
So I picked reincarnation, but other fits as well.

I voted "Other", because like others, I have a couple of different ideas on this.
I am torn between "There is a God", and "Reincarnation". I would LIKE to think there is an entity of somekind up there, watching over us, guiding us and looking out for us. Not in the conventional church's view on God, but a looser, more laid-back Entity.
I also however feel very strongly sometimes that I have been here before, or I have MET someone before, and therefore would err toward reincarnation.
rider4u: I've been here before and will be back...I believe that this is a huge classroom for us all to learn the lessons needed to have every experience that we require to perfect ourselves as soul. In my soul I am already perfect, however I am not conscious on the level of soul and that is my ultimate experience. To be conscious on the soul plane while still having a human body on the physical plane is my goal. I still have a ways to go but have come a long way already. JMHO
That sounds like a passage out of the Irish author John O'Donohue's books!
The Anam Cara book suggests that we are born of clay, and when the world was created the clay was thrown in all directions, each being split in two halves.
It is then suggested that the idea of Anam Cara (Friend of the Heart, roughly translated) is where the two pieces of clay find each other again and bond.
Well the reason for my poll was that I was thinking about this and looking from the outside at all the threads posted on this subject I thought that CS was predominatly non-believers but as 35 people have voted and thinking everyone was truthful then this is not the case it seems........
So what does this say? That the believers simply do not voice thier beliefs.....
They feel bullied if they do.....
Many are closet believers.....
As with most things it bring more questions for me than answers.......
Thanks all for this as I found it interesting and rather surprising...

I do fully agree wulfen.
I would like to add that death is what makes life so valuable.
