RE: What's It Like To Be A Navy SEAL

SEALs are at the very top in rating amongst Special Forces, the SAS being the only force which I'd personally consider to be their superior. Even so, I guess a potential fight out between SAS and SEALs would be a tough call in either case.

Both services often train together, Michael Hughes (a former SAS man) book 'Close Quarter Battle' has quite a good account of such a training action in which a combined team of SEALs & SAS had to evade US Marines units in an exercise aimed to mimick having to exfiltrate from a potentially hostile country while pursued by forces outnumbering them by a considerable margin.

RE: What's It Like To Be A Navy SEAL

Delta Force are the other elite arm of the American military. Usually Delta personnel are recruited from the Army (after going through a period of duty as Rangers), while SEALs are usually recruited from Navy & Marines personnel.

RE: A WAR IN HEAVEN, AND NOW ON EARTH !!

Good one smoky, hehe cheers

As for myself when I'm having inner turmoil nothing beats a session on the punching bag and some meditation to cool down after.

Hope you're having a nice weekend. wink

RE: CS Get-Together in Malta

It seems it's just the usual 4 or 5 people from Malta who actually post anything, hehe.

If the meet is still on I'd be interested in joining (and helping organize it).

RE: A WAR IN HEAVEN, AND NOW ON EARTH !!

And I've yet to meet 1 single christian who explains it CLEARLY how getting nailed to a piece of wood brought salvation to humanity? What would have happened else, the world would have ended there and then???

The world continued pretty much as it was since the cruxifiction, which by the way was just the standard way of execution in those days. If jesus had been killed today, would you have the electric chair as your symbol?!

As if you're implying that there weren't people who lived even centuries before jesus and their words haven't been remembered? I'll just give you one name, Homer who lived a whopping 1000 years BC and his Iliad is still considered a masterpiece.

jesus' words 'survived' due to the political stranglehold of the church you so happily condemn yourself. The church has waged a centuries long holocaust of all other beliefs in Europe and the rest of th world. Once you clear the field of all opposition you're pretty much left to do what you will don't you think?

As to those words being 'his', remember that the gospels were mostly passed on from word of mouth and were only written down decades and even CENTURIES after the cruxifiction. It's a well known fact that when news passes that way, each teller puts his/her own spin on the phrases, so I highly doubt the words in the gospels are actually his quotes.

Spoken like a true religious fanatic, my compliments (and pity) dude.

RE: A WAR IN HEAVEN, AND NOW ON EARTH !!

Well prior to converting to christianity he was a rabbist zealot persecuting christians (I thought you didn't like the jews mate!)

After conversion, he became a christian zealot shoving his religion down the throat of all and sundry.

Hmmm methinks he'd have made a fine taliban recruit had he lived in modern times.

RE: A WAR IN HEAVEN, AND NOW ON EARTH !!

I didn't disagree with the Smoky, just pointed out his tendency to see conspiracies in every post he makes wink

Jokes aside, as to which branch of christianity is the 'true path of christianity', well that is very debatable. Each group of early christians seemed to have their own version according to which gospel books they followed, and in fact prior to the Nicean Council which set up 'modern' catholicism most theologians themselves disagreed upon the 'true nature' of jahweh.

You might try the following book, 'A History of God' by Karen Armstrong as an interesting read on how judaism, christianity and islam have evolved from their earliest abrahamic days till the modern day. :)

No argument there Smoky handshake

I agree with you there as well, though personally I'm not sure there are any 'true' followers of christ running around. To my mind, what he preached was mostly idealistic but impractical, and some of it downright nonsensical (the speech made to the rich merchant who observed all the commandments; but when he asked jesus what else he should do to ensure his place in heavan, jesus told him "get rid of all your wordly possessions and give them to the poor". Yeah right, the poor sod worked hard to earn a measure of comfort in his life, and then he should go and give his hard earned money to some lazy sods who never worked. Hmmm come to think of it, does that make modern Western states true christian followers with their social benefits policies? lol Ok, just joking in this last bit, hehe)

Glad to see you're still around Smoky, hope you're well wave

RE: A WAR IN HEAVEN, AND NOW ON EARTH !!

Hmmm that's really the pot calling the cattle black.

I see you've yet to counter the arguments I put to you.

I'm going to say the following in Maltese so you get the meaning fully:

Mela li ma jdoqqx ghal widnejk tinjorah? Tipiku taghkom l-insara ux?

RE: A WAR IN HEAVEN, AND NOW ON EARTH !!

We actually had one guy here, called Angelik Caruana who has one on one conversations with the madonna; who told him about how utmost displeasure about how sinful we Maltese have become. This guy was given ample space on the local media at the time.

Oh by the way, this guy Angelik is also attacked by that big bully of the devil as well.

Check out the links (unfortunately these are in Maltese, could not find English versions).

Enjoy and have a laugh, or bang your head in dismay wink

RE: A WAR IN HEAVEN, AND NOW ON EARTH !!

Hey Conrad, what's up dude?

If you'd been in Malta over the past few weeks you'd either have laughed your head off, or else banged it against the wall in disbelief.

With us and the Philippines the only countries still without a divorce law, and with some MP's pushing for a referendum, we were subjected to a veritable charade of religious nuts over here proclaiming they've seen statues of the madonna shedding blood in sorrow that the Maltese wanted divorce, and also hinting at the consequences if the law passes; such as earthquakes, tidal waves and various other goodies the goody goody jesus christ and his dad in heaven get up to when their will is thwarted!

The referendum vote passed in favour of divorce, and guess what, weeks later I'm still waiting for that divine tsunami that was supposed to wipe sinners like me off the face of earth. Guess god is busy doing the good stuff and will turn to smiting and shedding divine wrath when he's got a slot free on his appointment schedule laugh

RE: Italian KILLS a romanian woman by hitting her, in Roma ...

Look maria, the accident you showed was simply that, accidental death, not murder as many other posters have already pointed out.

As for you claiming that Romanians are only murdered in Italy, I think if you do your research right you'll find that a lot of the crime happening in Italian cities is currently done by Romanian immigrants, and that creates ill feeling amongst the locals to Romanians.

Just stating facts.

This does not excuse people applauding that guy upon his release, but when people are pushed too far, they'll do extreme stuff. It's the way people act, get over it.

RE: The God Delusion

Man, jokes apart, your condition is most likely some form of schizophrenia.

I do feel sorry for you and won't make fun of you. Continue to see the psychiatrist, continue following his advice, and you'll see that eventually, you'll get to see that your 'experience' was just due to your mental state, and you don't really have nothing to fear.

Good luck on curing yourself ok? handshake hug

RE: Premiership kicks off this weekend. Who's gonna win it?

Great post mate. At first when I saw West Ham, I said wft?!!!

Then I saw the help icon, simply hilarious.

cheers

RE: The God Delusion

Hard to disagree with anything you've said in here thumbs up handshake cheers

RE: The God Delusion

Yes I agree with you there.

My point was, consider yourself living and feeling safe because you were TAUGHT to believe one thing, then one fine day you discover that all you've been taught is a sham.

I'd guess disappointment at discovering the truth, mixed with anger at the people who duped you all along would both be natural reactions.

Personally, I'd never choose to live a lie, but that's just me. handshake

RE: If a situation demands that you or one of you children dies, which would you save

Actually re-the bit in bold, a few years ago there was a case here in Malta that made the headlines.

Two Siamese twins were born here connected at the head. The way they were connected, the 'youngest' baby had no chance to live to adulthood, or even be much more than a 'vegetable' in medical terms.

The oldest baby could be saved, so long as she was disconnected from her sister within a few months. Otherwise, she would have died as well.

Basically, the youngest one was doomed from the start, the oldest had a chance so long as the youngest was killed instead of letting her die a natural death.

Ultimately the operation was performed (something that I agree with), but I remember it created quite a stir over here, with mostly catholic groups denouncing the 'murder' of the younger baby, conveniently ignoring the fact that the younger baby has at most 4 or 5 months to live anyway, and that her sister was also saved in this manner.

RE: Premiership kicks off this weekend. Who's gonna win it?

Yes difficult to disagree, it'll probably be a 3 horse race, with maybe Arsenal nosing in and spoiling someone's party along the way.

RE: The God Delusion

It's the fact that you would be living a lie. If one fine day I woke up and discovered that I've been living in a false bubble of hope all along, I'd be pissed for sure.

Of course, you're entitled to think otherwise handshake

RE: The God Delusion

By the way, are you really implying you see devils and demons?

If that's the case, here's my bit of advice.

Don't watch horror movies, they're not doing you any good;
Stop smoking whatever it is you're smoking;
Go see a shrink, he's probably the best person to help you.

laugh

RE: The God Delusion

I'm more or less on your same lines, but with a very big bias towards being skeptical about anything that is apparently 'supernatural'.handshake

RE: The God Delusion

I'd say I must have had something dumped in my tea rolling on the floor laughing

RE: The God Delusion

No I'm just stating my own views on religion, and my views on people who choose to follow a religion because they have 'passed through a bad patch'.

He brought up that bit, I was merely making a counter argument. I did say he is free to believe in it, but I'm just as much free to think it's a waste of time.

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

If there was no patriotism and national loyalty, we'd have much more anarchy, with the end result of much more wars, not less.

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

Simplistic and primitive it may be, but we're still driven by instinct, which is why we feel better and safer when we belong to a group. Why else individuals feel bad when they end up outcast from somewhere they feel at home?

As to the impact your country has on the third world, finance, just like everything else is about survival of the fittest. Do you actually believe that if your country were weak, and the current third world countries strong, they wouldn't be doing the same to you?

Ultimately, if something bad has to happen, I'd rather it happens far away from my loved ones.

RE: The God Delusion

You can't have proof because your religion (like all others) is based on FAITH doh

By the way, we all go through tough times in life, but that doesn't mean everyone is so weak minded they have to resort to a fairy tale god to feel better. Of course you're quite free to believe in him, it's your time you're wasting after all. roll eyes

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

I'll explain it in this way.

Manking is a social animal, and thus needs to life in a social group. The simplest form is the family.

As society evolved and became more complicated, groups of family congregated together for security and formed villages, then the towns, regions and ultimately nations.

All were formed on the basis of shared cultural values and the knowledge that there is safety in numbers, whether from natural or man made dangers.

Not being loyal to your country is fine, so long as you don't then expect to enjoy the benefits of said country. It's a bit like either wanting the cake or eating it, rights come along with duties too.

RE: The God Delusion

Sorry neither of those is any proof.

The earth's perfect distance from the sun to permit life is just laws of chance, with all the millions of planets in the universe, it's only a question of how many would be in the proper conditions to support life. There's way many more planets that can't support life as we know it after all.

As for water's chemical properties, the human brain, dna, they're all explained by science, not religion.

As to the number of people who attest to knowing god, religious loonies have been running around since man evolved. Same as with planets, with all the billions of people around, it's only a matter of mathematical probability that a number of them would be mentally deficient.

RE: The God Delusion

thumbs up

RE: The God Delusion

You know, believers always claim there is this 'proof', yet when challenged never manage to come up with something tangible. roll eyes

RE: The God Delusion

Yeah right....roll eyes
