RE: Foreigner in my own native country

Ah, that was way back in the dark days of our socialist past! (hehe just joking, communists can't change the weather as yet wink )

Jokes apart, you must have really encountered a one in a million rainy winter mate. We do get rainy days in winter of course, but it rarely rains for a whole day continuously, let alone a whole month.

A couple of years ago was such an exception, but I can't remember any other winters like that over here.

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

Difficult to argue with that point mate. It's up to the people taking residence in a foreign country to adapt to local customs, not the other way round.

RE: Men & Women

Well when you're called a barbarian you have to live up to the title grin

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

Really about the winters? wow It's not as if we get ice ages here, hehe.

I hate the summers here, way too hot and sticky, but the tourists for some strange reason love them. roll eyes

The best time over here is spring and autumn, lots of sunshine, but the temperature is great to run around and do fun stuff.

RE: Men & Women

And I didn't come up with my usual "Hey, you weak woman, me big strong man" pickup line yet! wow rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

And the recent hubbub in America about the millions of illegal immigrants who've crossed from Mexico doesn't ring a bell does it?

If the guys the OP had trouble with were legal residents, I'll grant you the point, but if they are illegals, I stand by his view.

RE: The God Delusion

Richard Dawkins is simply using the same arguments that christians do when shoving their religion down our throats. They are not afraid of being condescending towards atheists, so why should we?

After all, to most atheists, religious people are living in a fantasy bubble that will sadly burst for them when they die and discover there's no afterlife. Dawkins is just calling a spade a spade, and not worrying about appearing politically correct 'nice' about it.

He gets my thumbs up for that thumbs up

RE: Men & Women

Hey join the club then grin

I'm doing more or less the same in the religious threads, but to be honest nobody has yet called me a barbarian in there yet! laugh

Maybe it's female intuition, but how did she guess I'm actually the son of Conan the Barbarian? rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Men & Women

rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Careful, you'll see a lynch mob coming at ya in no time at this rate!

RE: Men & Women

Nah I'll catch up with my miniature painting, hehe.

Thing is we're in the middle of a heatwave here, and while painting I can't have the fan blowing on me as it'll dry the paint in seconds....mumbling

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

London is certainly different from Malta for sure. Having said that, I enjoy London as a holiday destination, but would certainly not enjoy living there permanently. Too hectic for my tastes. conversing

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

I can relate to that too. I'm of British descent (2nd generation) but have been born and lived in Malta all my life. My mentality and outlook is certainly different from most locals'.

Strange as it may seem, I tend to feel 'foreign' amongst Maltese, and 'Maltese' amongst foreigners. laugh

RE: Foreigner in my own native country

Yes it's quite a common problem for people who've worked abroad mate.

RE: Men & Women

Actually, on this particular day, most of my hobbies are off limits. Went to donate blood this morning, so no sports or martial arts training today.

Oh well, at least I get the day off work grin

RE: Men & Women

Aww, but I've got nothing to do today! moping

Just joking grin

RE: Men & Women

Well put mate, as usual the politically correct wide brush strokes fail to see the forest from the trees. handshake

RE: Men & Women

This is the problem. We spend way too much time deciphering each other through genders. How do men think? How do woman think? It's all rubbish. We should approach each person as an individual, gender aside and assess them on their character and not by the dangly bits..or lack of..between the legs.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting her post here, but that's the way I've understood it, that according to her, gender does not play a part at all.

The points she raised in other posts are all valid mind, but I disagreed with this one (if she intended it in the way I'm understanding it that is).

RE: Men & Women

I do agree that social, cultural and individual experiences play their part; but that is not to say that gender doesn't play a part too isn't it? wink

RE: Did you know Albert Einstein actually believed in God

You're still going around in philosophical circles, and while the points you raise are good, none of them ultimately proves there's a god.

RE: Did you know Albert Einstein actually believed in God

I already told you, I'm not a scientist, so the whole cell and dna stuff is better discussed with someone with the appropriate knowledge mate.

As for goals in life, each of us decides what his/her goal in life is to be. There's no 'gods' that enter the equation there...

RE: Did you know Albert Einstein actually believed in God

That is what I've been asking him all along, plus I see that so far he's also avoided my new thread (by the way, I tried to answer your questions there, but not sure I came up with the right answers, lol).

RE: Men & Women

She plainly said that it is not an issue of gender.

While personalities differ from individual to individual, I think gender does bear a big importance in the way we approach things.

This is not meant as an attack on women, but women often have the tendency of pointing out the differences as to how the genders behave when it's to their advantage, and playing 'dumb' when it's not convenient. You can't really have it both ways can you? wine

RE: Did you know Albert Einstein actually believed in God

Ah, I thought you meant drisslk since he started this whole dna offshoot. Still waiting for him to explain to us poor unbelievers how a dna molecule proves the existence of 'god'. drinking

RE: Did you know Albert Einstein actually believed in God

I was merely being sarcastic there dude wink cheers

RE: Did you know Albert Einstein actually believed in God

Ok, but I ask you ONCE more, what has all this got to do with proving that a god exists? Can you answer this instead of beating around the bush as always? dunno

RE: Men & Women

So you're saying that men and women don't approach problems in different ways? Not wanting to start an argument here, but have you lived on planet earth lately? confused

RE: Men & Women

Hm, never thought of that angle! lol

A bit off topic question to you, is your username in reference to the Metallica song? head banger

RE: Men & Women

It could also be a case of 'voluntary deafness' when the wife starts yammering constantly, and the male's body goes into spasms that cause him to say 'yes dear' over and over. rolling on the floor laughing

RE: If a situation demands that you or one of you children dies, which would you save

Thanks for thinking so too lady handshake

Honestly, I can't see which LOVING parent wouldn't be ready to sacrifice his/her life and health for one of their children. You see it happen in the animal kingdom, let alone expecting to see it amongst humans. handshake

RE: If a situation demands that you or one of you children dies, which would you save

Well Sample, since you came up with a stupid question, let me put a similar one to you.

Since in another thread you mentioned that you were raised to believe in the 'cowards live, heroes die' point of view, I guess you'd be one of those who would let his child die to save his skin? roll eyes
