RE: dating single moms

That goes both ways. I've known plenty of women who liked guys who asked them out, but then would go treasure hunting to find a defect so they can have an excuse to ditch him and not feel guilty about doing it either.

Love is not a CV, but if you're not with a person whom you feel comfortable with, it's better cutting that story short as the longer you tarry, the more hurt it's going to cause in my opinion.

RE: dating single moms

Why should a guy be called close minded for wanting to choose his potential partner carefully? Personally, I'd prefer a woman who has no kids, as I'm still of an age where I hope to have my own kids one day.

Maybe if I'm still single at 50 I'll change my view on that and having a partner with kids of her own won't be such a big issue.

Close mindedness has nothing to do with it, rather the opposite doh

RE: Malta

The reason Malta is off the list is that we're so far ahead it wouldn't have been fair to list us with them grin

RE: A revision

Yes I agree with what you say, all media is 'propaganda' and unbiased at the end of the day, it's only natural.

As regards M.Moore, he does have some valid points, but he's so openly anti-Republican that it ends up casting a veil on any of his works, even if you would find yourself agreeing with him. At least, that's the effect he has on me.

To give another, more light hearted example of how media can really go to extremes, it's a running joke here in Malta that the 2 newspapers toadying up to the 2 main political parties on the island, are reporting news that happens on different islands that are called Malta.

The reason for this is that if you read the opposition's newspaper, you'd think people starving in 3rd world countries are way better off than us, if you read the pro-government's paper, you'd think the USA is a 3rd world country compared to us! rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Malta

That video clip was hilarious, thought it makes Malta sound like a 3rd world country laugh Why was the Italian guy speaking to us Maltese in English I wonder, most of us do speak Italian fluently grin

RE: Malta

Well, to quote a line from the comedy movie 'Bedazzled', "German, French, Italian? Who needs that? Ja ja, oui oui, si si, everyone speaks English, and if they don't, they should" rolling on the floor laughing

This was meant as a joke by the way grin

RE: Malta

I didn't know about you being banned mate. Welcome back beer

RE: Malta

Ah and here I was thinking you were extolling France's virtues just from a pure love of the country! laugh

RE: A revision

Elley, if you think that M. Moor's films are unbiased and give the 'true' facts, I'm sorry, but you're being naive in this case.

Sure, he has some points which are correct, but his opposition to the Reupblicans is well known, and so he's hardly the best person to give an unbiased view of the situation.

The reasons for those wars are much more complex than 'good vs evil', there's a lot of power politics behind the scenes.

As far as Iraq, the main reason was trying to control the oil fields by the West, but the situation has been so mishandled that if we pull out, Iran will take over Iraq (60% of Iraq is Shia muslim, just like 99% of Iran). Personally, seeing Iran with all that power at its disposal sends a scary shiver.

Afghanistan was housing Al Qaeida who did plot 9/11, it was an act of aggression and the US could not but strike back. Apart from that there are economic reasons why the West can't pull back from there either.

If Afghanistan is pacified, gas pipes from Pakistan can be built across Stan and then all the way into Europe, bypassing the needs of the oil pipes that run through Russia, and which Putin decides to close whenever he wishes to hold Europe at ransom and hitch up the prices.

RE: Bottled water losing popularity.

I think it really depends on which part of the world you live in.

Taking my own country for example, we have no running rivers, lakes etc, and our tap water is processed by reverse osmosis from sea water into fresh, which leaves it as 'heavy water'.

It's ok to make your coffee, tea or cook with it, but if you drink from the tap, the taste of chlorine is really noticeable at times in it.

So we're left with the option of buying bottled water, and in this case, bottled water DOES taste a lot better.

When I visit abroad (only trips to Europe so far), most places use their own tap water which is fine by me.

Some of my friends who have visited North Africe (Egypt, Tunisia & Libya in this case) were actually warned not to drink any water which is not bottled. In one particular case that I know of, one guy who drank tap water spent a couple of weeks in hospital after.

So, there's no hard and fast rule about whether tap or bottled water is the way to go.

RE: Malta

Actually AirMalta has never had a plane crash in over 30 years service, something you can't really say of many more airlines do you?

Anyways, I think your post was written in a joking manner, so I won't go in a patriotic rage over it laugh

RE: Malta

In Sarkoland they speak French true, but English???!!!!! When I was in France it was a real feat trying to find someone to talk to you in English (and this is something I often hear from other who have visited France on holiday).

You're disqualified from the statistic of course Phoenix, since you're not a native laugh

RE: Malta

And for those who like them, we cook snails better than the French too, lol.

(Personally I find them disgusting though! rolling on the floor laughing )

RE: WE ARE F___KED!

I understand your outrage, but I thing this corporate puppeteering behind the scenes has been going on for decades now and is so engrained in the American political system that nothing apart from a revolution type shakeup can reform it.

The powers that be have their feet deeply set in now, they're not going to give it up without a fight just because it's the 'correct' thing to do. To believe otherwise is rather naive I'm afraid.

RE: WE ARE F___KED!

I agree with most of what you say. Regarding the highlighted bit, at first glance having more parties can be seen as an ideal alternative as it represents a wider spectrum of views. Personally, had I been American, neither the Republicans nor the Democrats do it for me, I agree with some views of either party, but not enough to 'convince me' in their cause.

Having more parties raises the danger of having no party with a clear majority. See Italy between the post WW2 and the pre-Berlusconi years. Literally dozens of parties all with a tiny fraction of the electorate forming shaky coalitions that crumbled within months of being elected with appalling regularity (I think it was something in the region of 47 governments in 45 years at sompe point!).

So, I'm warily positive that having more parties is a good thing, but it must be kept under control as well.

RE: WE ARE F___KED!

Yes, to just simplify the whole issue into conservatives = bad guys; democrats = good guys is total naiveness. Both sides are sharks, the democrats just try to disguise themselves under a cuddly sheep skin laugh

As an aside Bebe, congrats on the qualities of your posts, they're always intelligent and to the point thumbs up handshake

RE: Malta

It's Luqa International Airport, and the national airline is AirMalta wink

RE: Do you consider yourself a person who is always seeking to learn new things?

Thanks for the compliment mate, and to answer your question, some ladies here have found me interesting, but they are mostly out of my age group, and live away from me.

Those closer to home and in my age group aren't usually interested in my hobbies, which might go a long way to explain why I'm still single! laugh

Then again I'm not one to view soap operas, indulge in clothes shopping trips, and gossip about which celebrity is dating who, so while I'm still hopeful that a soulmate exists somewhere, I'm happy to be solitaire till I find her.

RE: Reincarnation

So in effect it's a more complicated way of saying it was that person's destiny to be killed in that circumstances?

As for the rest, it's given me a headache to sort it out, hehe! laugh

Thanks for the info though, very informative thumbs up

I don't believe in re-incarnation per se, but find some of Buddhism's views interesting. thumbs up

RE: Reincarnation

In Buddhist beliefs, does the circumstance of the killing another human being make a difference to the karma?

Say, killing someone in self defence, killing on the battlefield during wartime, killing someone by accident and just murdering in cold blood are all taking life, but hardly fair to be lumped all in the same category.

RE: Malta

Hey don't lump us all in that category! laugh

I'm not crazy about Cisk Lager myself, but most of my foreign friends can't seem to have enough of it when they visit here. Maybe it's our familiarity with it that makes us not appreciate it fully.

I'm not much of a Lager fan in general, I much prefer the dark ales.

RE: The Italians are beginning to rule English football!

Still, I think victor is right in this case, haven't Wigan been conceding ridiculous scores against pretty much everyone this year so far?

RE: Malta

Lol good one rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Reincarnation

I'm no expert on Buddhism so what I say here may not be 100% correct.

Buddhists believe that when you die, you are re-incarnated as a superior or inferior lifeform depending on your actions in your past life.

For example, if you do something really bad, you get reborn as some disgusting creepy crawly such as a fly or worm.

If on the other hand you have lived a good life, you are born as a more beautiful/stronger etc person.

This cycle goes on till you reach nirvana, or enlightenment, where you will leave phsyical form and become one with the spiritual.

As I already said, I'm no expert on the subject so any Buddhists here can (will) certainly correct me. laugh

RE: Malta

I know was just pulling your leg a bit there wink

If you're an 'ale man' yes I agree that Guinness is amongst the top 3 (my favourite is Kilkenny however).

Over here we produce a lager called Cisk which, although not a particular favourite of mine, for some reason the Brits who come over here go crazy for it. I still can't understand why though confused

RE: Malta

Well if you don't believe that it's actually a Maltese saying, just ask any other Maltese in here and they'll confirm it. laugh

By the way, our beer's way better than the French too! tongue

RE: What Things Would You Miss If You Immigrated??

In my case I'd miss my family & friends, the fact that everywhere here in Malta is at most 30mins drive away from home, the sunny weather even in winter, some of the local dishes, and depending on where I move to, probably the sports.

RE: The Italians are beginning to rule English football!

I read the news about Edwin Van der Saar's wife today. As regards stuff like that, there's no club loyalty, rivalry or anything like that, I wish him the best of luck and has my full sympathy.
