RE: Do you consider yourself a person who is always seeking to learn new things?

I'm into military history and culture, I used to practice fencing and for the past year have been learning kenjutsu (Japanese swordsmanship), and in future would like to learn to use the gladius (Roman legionary short sword).

My library contains books on most topics, from history, to psychology, religion, to sports.

I also enjoy watching the dvds extras on my movie collection, the process of how a film develops from a mere idea, to the artwork, costume design etc that is needed to make a movie intrigues me a lot.

RE: Malta

Well, here in Malta we have a saying:

'L-assenza qeghda fil-flixkien iz-zghar';

which roughly translated is 'The best juice is in the small bottles' laugh

RE: Malta

Well, it may be my tastes, but all that buttery French cuisine doesn't do it for me.

I much prefer healthier foods such as the Mediterranean diet. handshake

RE: Malta

Hey, our food's much better than what you find in Sarkoville though wink laugh

RE: Malta

Yes we tend to use that to our advantage when we play at home laugh

We really suffer when playing away however, some of our worst defeats have come playing away against Scandinavian sides. sigh

RE: Malta

Jan, I was responding to that woman who had moved to Gozo.

Re-the height theory, my point wasn't about any racial discrimination, it's a fact that people who have lived for generations in warmer climates tend to be shorter, and those who have lived for generations in colder climates tend to be taller.

I'll make a case in point, when a few months ago the Maltese national football team against Denmark, our tallest defender who by Maltese standards is quite a big guy, was only as tall as the shortest Danish player.

It's also something that the Maltese football team suffers from when playing against Scandinavian sides, the height difference means we rarely win any headers against them.

It's really annoying when the pc brigade seem to take offence at anything you know.

RE: Malta

So you solely base your views on attraction on a guy's height? Ok if the height difference is to great, a couple will look kinda weird, but it works both ways.

Anyway, if you had done a bit of research, you would have found that people tend to be bigger in colder climates, and smaller physically in warmer ones. It's a matter of evolution, smaller bodies disperse heat faster, while larger bodies are better at storing up heat.

It's why animals were larger in the Ice Age as well. If you were looking for taller guys, you did the wrong choice of moving to Malta laugh

RE: Real Men Cry

Going back to the OP's subject, there is a very touching scene in 'Cinderella Man', where the former boxing champ (played by an excellent Russell Crowe), now impoverished, has to go beg money from his former colleagues in order to buy medicine for his sick children.

Apart from the acting which was superb, knowing that it is based on a true story made it all the more touching. In my opinion, in a way it required much more courage for that boxer to go beg in order to save his kids (the story is set during the years of the Great Depression when unemployment levels hit skyrocket highs), than facing his opponents on the boxing ring.

RE: Do ladies tink that male nurses are wimps?

The guys I play football with regularly are all male nurses. Judging from the tackles in our games, wimps is certainly not the way I'd describe them! laugh

Jokes apart, nursing is a tough job that requires a lot of dedication that you won't find in other more 'normal' jobs. Those dudes have all my respect. beer

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Isn't it obvious that if I'm stating my case, it is my opinion? Are we going to go courtroom nitpicking now?

Then let's not bother jailing people either, because sometimes the wrong guy gets arrested and sentenced to x years in prison as well. Let's leave everyone scot free and keep everyone in the pc brigade happy right?

Yes mistakes do happen, humans aren't infallible, it's no reason not to try to do things right, go figure.

No not everyone accused of a crime is guilty that's true. However in some cases it's quite easy to determine it. Take mafia bosses, they usually go scot free because some hotshot lawyer manages to find the tiniest legal wrangling so they can wriggle out of the system.

I guess because the court doesn't find him guilty, you're happy about that eh?

Anyway, whatever my opinion or yours is on the death penalty doesn't matter. I'm glad that some countries have the sense to have it, while those spineless ones that don't and are happy because of it can go boo hoo whenever a serial killer goes on the rampage.

As regards the OP's thread, I sure cheered at the news that that scumbag who was carrying 4kgs of drugs to ruin people's lives got the end he deserved.

I'm out of this thread, g'bye.

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

'Types' referred in this case to the liberals who are opposed to the death penalty. If you want to read something offensive in that word, it's your problem.

Gee, typical of the pc brigade to go boo hoo over a word. Get a life doh

RE: Real Men Cry

Born Free was the movie about those rescued lionesses correct?

In that case you should love 'Two Brothers', it's the story of 2 small tiger cubs in India. Won't give any spoilters though wink

RE: Real Men Cry

Oh I didn't mean I repress my emotions, but just find other outlets rather than crying. I practice meditation, martial arts and work out at the gym, so any built up tension during the day does get disposed of.

RE: Real Men Cry

I cried when I watched 'The Last Samurai' during the scene where Katsumoto dies on the battlefield. It was a very touching scene and the film director & Ken Watanabe (the actor portraying Katsumoto) managed to convey all the bravery and nobility of that character in that scene.

Can't say I felt great afterwards, crying is not something I do too often, but on that occasion, I can't say I felt ashamed either. laugh

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Your argument that the death penalty does not deter murder and should be scrapped doesn't hold mate. With the same line of reasoning, let's close all jails and not imprison anyone who commits crime, after all the existence of jails doesn't deter crime does it? Answer me that please, since I notice that the pc brigade has so far failed to come up with a counter.

How is the death penalty inhumane and degrading? That's just your view, others don't agree with it. I see it degrading on the victim to see a murderer go out scot free after spending 10 years in prison, free to rebuild his life and go on as if nothing had happened.

You're using an article from amnestyusa to back your argument? Yes this organization is so impartial and unbiased isn't it? It's like asking a greenpeace activist and a texas oiler if the global warming phenomenon is real or not and not expecting any bias from the two!

As for your last paragraph, at least I'm honest in how I'd feel were one of my family a victim in this case. I sincerely doubt you'd try to reason with the criminal if one of your family was a victim. Then again, the pc brigade isn't renowned for logic..confused

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Very good point Morgan. thumbs up

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Your type in this case refers to people with the tendency to portray the criminal as a victim and make us all go boo hoo over his deserved fate.

Before pointing fingers about close minds, take a look at yourself next time ok?

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

So just give murderers a pat on the back and tell them not to be so naughty next time huh?

What about justice to the victims and punishment for the offenders? If a person kills in cold blood he/she deserves the death penalty, period.

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Yes let's just give all criminals a pat on the back and tell them not to be naughty boys & gals in future right? See how the crime rate will plummet after that. doh

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

As opposed to you seeing the ways of others who aren't fellow bleeding hearts?

I just hope for your sake you'll never be in a position when one of your family or loved ones is murdered or the victim of some other violent crime mate. Maybe you'll open your eyes then and stop seeing the REAL criminals as the victims you so obstinately try to make them out to be.

It's obviously impossible to reason with your type, so I leave you to your warped beliefs too mate.

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

If I'm understanding that statement right, you killed while serving as part of the military?

Killing in a military action while in the line of duty is not the same thing as committing murder mate, there's a very big difference.

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Isn't that what a judge is there for in a courtroom?

As for forming opinions where I'm judging others, if I think somebody is committing something bad, I'm not going to try to find excuses for him/her, I'll consider that person a scumbag for doing it.

Luckily for me I'm not part of the pc brigade who are afraid of having an opinion because they're afraid to offend someone, even if that someone is a criminal.

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

You hit the nail right on the head mate. Unfortunately the pc brigade would rather see the real victims as the criminals, and the murderers, rapists, thieves, drug dealers etc as the victims.

Makes you wonder where evolution went wrong with these people. dunno

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

So with your line of reasoning, free the sentenced criminals, having jails obviously hasn't deterred them from committing crime, so why bother huh?

Better still, let's abolish all laws and go the way with anarchy. After all laws are to be broken right?

Re-the couriers being the replacable foot soldiers, so what? The drugs they're helping to sell is ruining the lives of others. But let's all be bleeding hearts and feel sorry for the couriers, after all his mama didn't love him/her as a child right? Poor courier! doh

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

And naivete makes it go crashing down! doh

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Says who?

If someone is threatening your life or your loved ones, you don't have the right to kill in self defence?

What about fighting a war to defend your country?

What about euthanasia? Should you leave a terminally ill patient with no hope of recovery linger on in agony because you lack the guts to stop his suffering?

Just 3 examples where killing is, for want of a better word, is 'right'.

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

I do, and I'm glad I'm no bleeding heart. You committ murder, you lose your life, simple.

RE: do u tink people should be excutied for smuggleing drugs?

Well, if I ever was into a position of considering committing murder, I'd surely think twice about it if a death sentence hanged over my head if I got caught.

Same argument, for lesser offences the threat of going to jail serves as a deterrent from committing such acts.

Quite logical for anyone with at least 2 grey matter cells in their brains I guess. For bleeding hearts who make the criminals the 'victims' I guess it's a tad harder to understand.

What's your favourite football team?

Hi mate, no I wasn't implying you no worries laugh

I remember that back in the late 80's / early 90's (gee, I'm getting old) at school AC Milan were all the rage. We only used to watch Italian TV here in Malta in those days, and Milan were going through a golden era in Europe, first with Arrigo Sacchi and then with Fabio Capello at the helm.

Nowadays most of those guys who were my schoolmates somehow no longer follow Milan with the same passion. Fickle fans huh?

For those Man. Utd. fans who (like my dad) went through the 27 year barren drought without a league title, it's only fair they got to celebrate the glut of titles in the past years. beer

What's your favourite football team?

I don't agree mate. Frankly I have more respect for people who keep on supporting their own local teams even though they're small fish, instead of those who jump up on the big club bandwagon as soon as these hit a winning streak.

Do the following ring a bell? Kids in the 90's who all of a sudden started supporting Man. Utd. (after nearly a 3 decade drought), and the more recent Chelsea & Man. City phenomenoms.
