davpk10: Average would be determined to the area where you live I would think ....average here in the states could very well be rather large compared to say France or Asia.....
true. my father bought a bunch of clothes and just asked for our sizes. The small size is apparently large here.

Swissblueeyes: If a person accurately states themselves as 'average' then it means that they are not fat but they are also not thin..maybe the word might be just right? a little meat on them to look healthy but its not fat..they also are not athletic in the fact their not ripped. im a female so i like being fit but with womanly curves. well hopefully this helps explain what you asked.
I think you did well defining it and would agree. I weigh 56k which is 123lbs so I consider myself average.
I'd like to see it defined as well. A member here kindly emailed me and suggested I change mine to "average", as "curvy" (which I have) means apparently much bigger sizes than I am. Problem is that "average" is such a terrible word to use.... Of course, of course, being "typica/usual/ordinary" is not it's only meaning, but still.... A scary word to use to refer to oneself.

Since the terms are apparently so nebulous to the majority, it would be much better to have the weight expressed as a number (in both lbs & kg) and thus let the reader make their own determinations based on their own view.

what percentage of people do you think will post their true and accurate body weight?
We can't even get people to post their true age and height! Even on a driver's license, where the age is accurate and the height is probably very close, the weight is usually about 20lbs light.
TY, many good comments, and I guess as we see the term .average' is either mist-understood, used to easily and also not accurate at times, and culture does show differences. Keep them coming, maybe one day the sites will actually get a more accurate selection.
DONTCOUNTMEOUT: We are trying to understand the one Body type that is listed as "AVERAGE". I myself as well as others have found this confusing as to what a person considers average. We are trying to distinguish this as being in the TRI-State area -being PA/NY/and NJ. Please feel free to comment, we are trying to distinguish if culture dictates, geographic, or other attributes that make ones decision when selecting this identifying feature. Thank You for any and all feed back.
I think it depends on where you come from, what you consider average. If you come from a group of pygmies then 3ft tall and around 60 lbs is average, but if you come from the largest race in the world, then 6 ft and 400 lbs could be average......
I have a feeling that "average" to many people takes into consideration, their age, location, ethnicity, including things like "average" diet, "average" income, and "average" exercising habits, or not, for their community........
I'd say it also depends on what people read, how educated they are, what their occupations is, how extended their families are, if they are healthy or ill generally, (genetically, or mental illnesses like anorexia), what medications they are on, if their self esteem is high or low, if they were drunk or drugged the day they filled out the form............
