I enjoy Xmas even more now than when I was young. My enjoyment comes from watching everyone else enjoy themselves. I like putting a smile on people's faces, even strangers. And when the energy from someone's smile travels to bring a sparkle to their eyes, there's no better feeling.
Yes, I love it! It's different than when I was a kid, but like to watch the grandkids and the get togethers with friends, cookie exchanges, and exchange gifts with the neighbors....we have a great time...! There is always a xmas tea that my nephews wife puts on, and it's always alot of fun...I love wrapping presents in a special way, I prefer the gift bags with festive ribbons and bows, you can put anything in there and make it look like a very expensive item, but it doens't have to be...it's the thought and I appreciate my neighbors very much, so it's a time I can say thank you...
When one's kids grow up Christmas loses its luster. When grand children are in the picture it makes it all worth while again. As in the day I am having to shop early, but it is certainly worth the effort.
I've spend the last 10 years in the tropics with a plastic Christmas tree - yes, the thought of having to put that tree together in a view weeks is a dread - everything for my son.
Although i realy enjoy Xmas Eve watching my granbabies all spick and span waiting for Santa and begging to go to bed EARLY instead of the usual no no no im not going
I enjoy Christmas more now than when I was a child. Being older and wiser I enjoy the meaning of Christmas. I also enjoy the Christmas concert/party at my church.
gemeh22: favorite holiday of the year , love the lights, decorations , music , spirit
Agreed Christmas is brilliant it always makes me smile, the whole feeling, walking through malls, lights, decorations everything, its a superb time of year !
I enjoy Christmas because of the grandchildren. I truly enjoy going shopping for them. Even getting pretty good at picking out 4 year old girl outfits.
Next year my grandson is getting restored metal Tonka trucks. They were his dad's when he was little. My intent is to color match them so they look brand new.
There is again the magic of Christmas when you see a 4 year old kid open a gift and look at you with smiling eyes...
My grandson is only 1 so he doesn't have a clue as to what's going on yet.
I enjoy Christmas more as an adult than as a child. Growing up in a struggling family was tough. Granted we had it better than others but others had it much better than me..just a little bit jealous was I... Now I can enjoy the beautiful coloured lights, beautiful cards, the snow, singing in church, the pageants, unwrapping presents (this year I am going to have chocolate martinis)go to midnight mass..even though I am not Catholic...I pretend (and God has never struck me down). Though I am not crazy about cooking the turkey I am sure I'll be asked to do again.
The holidays make me sad, I missed loved ones no longer here. I enjoy seeing my children at the holidays but never feel as I can give them everything that they desserve. Mixed feelings I suppose.
RobbieM: No Xmas at my end, my child is living abroad, and Xmas is for kids, so it's all i can do not to want to basically cry on Xmas.
I try very hard to keep busy, as busy as i can, and pretend i'm not thinking about what my son will be doing.
Other than that, and feeling like jumping off a cliff, it's a great day for me.
I can be tough. I haven't had my kids for the last few years at christmas..... I'm supposed to have them this year but I expect their mum will break the access order again as she has for the past 2 years.....
Try keep your head up and stay away from any cliffs
