President Obama is about to make a statement on Egypt soon.

We will find out if the prices of gas is $4 per gallon or $5 per gallon. With luck he will keep it short, sweet and politically non directional....so we get $4 per gallon.

ttom500: On the same light....in a remote of AZ....a board patrol found a
Jhadist weathered "how to book" from Iran. It listed all the
suicide bombers and how to make devices in it.

The authorities are puzzled how a Jhadist how to book was smuggled into the country. They don't see much connection between illegal aliens and drugs and a Jhadist how to book.

Also a woman at lunch today....said that eh Suez Canal had been closed to the unrest in Egypt....meaning super tankers carrying crude are going to stack up there like fire wood ...unless the wood chuck begin to fling them.

If the canal closes...OPEC has a cause to drive up the price of a barrell. Summer with $5 per gallon is coming if this blockage is good for several months.

How come no body have heard this news you are talking a bout TT? Remote of AZ a Jihadist arrested with a How to Book from Iran? confused Come on TT you are certainly great entetainment stuff for those who does not know much laugh

I am so happy hearing people in countries where majority are muslims are waking up and demanding real changes and freedom and ending dictatorships. Hillary Clinton made a wise message regarding these events in Egypt and I am sure Hosni Mubarak,s time on pwer is over and out and he better stop forcing the military attacking people furter more over there because when people or majority of people do not want him no more then he got to listen and getitng the Heck out of power here and now... they are very lucky Mr. Al Baradei have accepted the challenge of leading the country and Mubarak must Go! yay

You are not asking the question right. Who doubled the bailout program to tap into the finanical reserves of the country?

The first bailout was needed...or as I said at the time....a gov't loan program...which is what it turned into. The second TARP II was not needed.

ttom500: He is back. Please don't give him a fire axe.....

Sure. Do away with the Department of Education at the Federal government level. It is 160b dollar worth of annual waste and ineffiency each year. Education is done at the local and grass roots level.

Improve the quality of school boards. Everyone focus on the teacher quality. Good school boards will hire better teacher.
Because they want the best teaching staff that they can afford.

Improve the college requirements for teachers. The college I went lead the state of MI in teacher graduation. But it was considered the academic light area of the college. Sitting 4 hours a day with a group of 7 years olds is pretty light weight academics.

Place teachers on a two or three year probation period and get rid of the entire concept of teacher or professor tenure. Tenure is just a good way for a teacher/professor to keep a job after they have lost the skills and dated knowledge to the subject.

In other words you can fire them....at any point in the thier career.

What you suggest is all a bout saving in taxes as usual TT and got not a thing to do with increasing education level in America generally what so ever. COMMON CORE STANDARDS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS: A BAD IDEA

Common Core Standards For Public Schools: A Bad Idea

The No Child Left Behind Act, which allowed states to set their own public school standards for "proficiency," is opposed and considered a failure by all factions in the education world. Therefore, we obviously should force all kids in every state to be held to uniform national standards of proficiency. Right?

No; wrong. But that bad idea is being aggressively promoted by the Obama Administration. The mailed fist in the velvet glove is the extraordinary river of taxpayers' money used to force compliance.

Having taken over major parts of the banking industry, the mortgage industry, the auto industry, the college student-loan industry, and the health-care industry, the Obama Administration is now taking over the $600 billion public-school industry with taxpayers' money from the Stimulus package. The White House concedes that "stimulus" is a negative word and avoids its use because it obviously didn't stimulate jobs, but Stimulus dollars will stimulate the takeover of our children's minds under Common Core Standards, the moniker for forcing national curriculum standards on all public schools.

Imposing common-core national standards sounds so alluring to those who look to the Obama Administration to solve all our problems. We would get rid of our messy, different 50-state variations of standards, and make our kids smarter by incentivizing them to aspire to a higher bar of achievement, make them all college-ready, enable them to rank higher on international tests, and enable them to better compete in the new global economy.

Au contraire. For starters, the imposition of national standards isn't constitutional. Nothing in the U.S. Constitution authorizes the federal government to exercise any control over education, and this limitation is reinforced by a longstanding federal law that forbids the federal government "to mandate, direct, or control ... school's curriculum, program of instruction, or allocation of state or local resources."

But the Obama Administration isn't known for checking out its authority with the Constitution or the law. And control of public school curriculum is a very desirable prize for those who seek to control the future.

Even Jimmy Carter's Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare Joseph Califano admitted in 1977, "national control of curriculum is a form of national control of ideas." The bait is use of our money, lots of it.

The Obama Administration plans to do an end-run around the Constitution and the federal law by tying the Common Core Standards to the granting or denying of federal appropriations, both the $4.35 billion Race To The Top money and even Title I funding. That effectively makes the Common Core Standards compulsory because state politicians are not likely to turn down billions of dollars.

So far, at least 36 states plus the District of Columbia have adopted Common Core Standards. Only Texas and Virginia have indicated reluctance to adopt.

Much of the argument for Common Core Standards is that our decentralized, 50-state control of curriculum is so unlike educational systems in most other countries, but so what! Americans honor our exceptionalism and our federalism, and we don't want to be "fundamentally transformed" into European-style socialism.

Conclusions offered by the research into systems used in other countries are thin, unpersuasive and largely irrelevant to the United States. The countries cited have a long tradition of central government control plus a largely homogeneous culture, whereas the United States has a diverse population and strong traditions of parental authority, limited government, and state (not federal) control of education.

The 160b that goes to the Dof Education budget....does not make it to the kids, Dude. It is all spend on adimistration and paying expret and college grants for profs.

Federal government trying to run local schools is like Obama care trying to manage the local hospital. It ain't going to work.

Washington is to far remove from Walnutgrove. And really could care less about Walnutgrove.....Walnutgrove has to solve its own problems and can do it better with less of Washington.

There's no point in trying to elucidate the function of the
"invisible hand" to socialists OR oligarchists. Both want to tie that hand to serve them and their interests only.

That's not the way it works. Tying the hand via regulation or oligarchy/monopoly builds pressure. That's what a "bubble" is. Housing "bubble", credit "bubble", etc. They're all created by applying artificial stresses on a dynamic system.

And I sense an oxymoron in this statement of yours, highlighted. Ethics and banks are a contradiction in terms if you truly understand how they make their money. The whole industry is criminal to begin with.

To legitimize usury by saying "do it ethically" is like saying you can pick a dog turd up by the "clean" end. Not gonna' happen unless you get people to hold their noses and close their eyes, as has been done many times before.

Well Well Well Leigh... getting a little more honest and that,s great actuallythumbs up

Who is "Them" exactly and why are "Them" not good enough to have jobs in America and paying more back to your country and having a better life?

I know your guys really HATE smart folks but with out the same smart folks America would not even being a strong country and would be a huge undereducated poor country you see?

Education is THE greatest wealth of any country and if the government listens to your sad and mad and poor educated underminer GOP,s guys then America will loose it major time and the time of being a strong and rich country will be over and out... you understand? dunno

China, India, Europe and even rusisa nd Middle eastern countries are investing major time in education now on days and after the recession time and in order to become able to recover strong and decisive and GOP monsters are BSitting America one more time and this time a bout Education and want the government stop spending on education! You are a smart lady Leigh ... what makes you think as you think?

Should America decrease after Recession or what?
