Everybody in Australia, (apart from the indigenous people ) is an immigrant, and none of them were "invited". Same is true for South Africa, New Zealand, the US and all former colonies.

The people who complain about immigrants are the descendants of immigrants themselves.

That's not to say there aren't problems with immigration, but nobody can claim moral high ground just because their family immigrated before some others.

TrueBlue1986: They don't have freedom, they do have disease and hunger and they do give birth just to die in many cases. Handplow and village beats chemicals and urban slum in the case of Africa. I'm aware we can't go back, but we can learn from the past and not accelerate the problems of Africa.

Interesting point Zimbabwe, seen as Mugabe's position is maintained by exporting blood diamonds, so again, we - not all, but some - help establish Mugabe's position, like we did with Gaddafi.

It seems - if you speak accurately for the philosophy - that the Libertarian is more interested in helping people to help the Libertarian.

Only the White's have gained from getting involved with Africa, never the African people, and I also believe it to be wrong to make some live in accordance to the rest - Their culture, their land, their future.

Good response.

I still contend that your lifetime and prior, which has brought Africa to a lowlier position than at any point in 10,000 years of Human history, does not represent wisdom or benevolence and so is not an attitude to be continued.

Keep thinking is the key. As to people with more experience of the world? Older you mean? Aaah, that's not always applicable.

You put words into my mouth, I said people with more experience of the world, sometimes older but not neccesarily. Some people have a parochial point of view at 90.

Perhaps, but if wasn't for the ideology of youth we'd never go anywhere - good or bad.

I would also suggest that the experienced minds of other cultures may agree with me. It's undeniable that the concept of turning everybody elses business into our business is a protrusively Western trait.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, "so i want to see how the pollers think" . . .

Why? Are you expecting that we'll want to commiserate with you based solely upon your perception of things?

Doesn't work that way, mate. There are generally two sides to every story. Yours is only half. Forgive us if we consider both sides and form our own opinions.

As technology improves and standard of living improves so many people take the view of entitlement.
How many people starve in the developed world due to basic lack of provisions or sanitation?

We expect to have the next gadget, the next dvd latest fashions and simply take the basic needs in life for granted.

People in third world countries or countries going through developing countries are given glimpses of what their world could be like and want it too. Not the dvd's or gadgets or latest fashion, but the basic essentials in life- food, medicines and the knowledge that they do not need to have child after child in the hope that maybe one of them will reach adulthood.

If I was living in some god forsaken country and had the chance of a better life elsewhere then I am damn sure that I would take it.
Would you not?

dunno

As for aid to third world countries goes. The UK provides the highest % of per person in the world in aid abroad. That amounts to 0.7 %
It is hardly going to kill us!
I do think that we live in a selfish world.

American attitudes today, European colonialism of the past, what is the real difference psychologically speaking?

My back up would be the historical actions of other cultures. For instance the Chinese had the largest, grandest fleet in the middle ages, tipped to a position where they could of eclipsed the world - yet they chose not to, they chose to leave the world as it was whereas ourselves in this position saw fit to conquer and plunder our way to the position of Kings of the Earth.

Confucius once said something like; "the small mind marvels at the exotic, the wise mind marvels at the commonplace." a Western mind would never think this way, the Chinese definition of wisdom is so much more insular than what we consider to be wise. Or take Buddhism, another obviously inward-looking philosophy of the East. I believe there is a reason why Buddhism and Confucius were not the products of White society.

Only 28% of Americans have owned a passport so I guess that they are quite insular!
It was only 9/11 that made many Americans realize that they were not untouchable.
