They're destroying your stuff? What stuff? And how? Do they take the axe to it? Please elaborate. And refugees get free internet in your country? Now if that's not a massive incentive in emigrate to Australia! Are you saying I could save 20 bucks a month by paying a fortune to get on a boat that might sink? What a brilliant way to save money.

America probably has more refugees than any country. IMO It's not refugees that steal jobs, it's the illegals that get in here under cover taking jobs that American citizens need. Your government is to blame for higher medical costs. I don't get free medical. I'm a senior and I pay dealy for my Medicare benefit.
On the news today unemployment is going up again. It's a no win situation all over the world but it's not the fault of refugees
Our senior citizens haven't gotten an increase in their social security benefit for over two years. It's not the fault of refugees. It's the fault of our government for putting us through a recession.
Like yours my country is subject to a heavy influx of "refugees" - they are really mainly economic migrants but we will keep using the word for practical reasons.
Here too they are given some free services and assistance and here too the locals have turned pretty hostile towards the outsiders.
Truth be told 1. Their impact on the economy and the job market is actually positive as they are taking jobs that we would not want to perform anyway (menial and low paid labour in the main) and the availability of such a labour pool enables business to keep its overheads low and invest more in research and business development thus often generating more high level jobs for the locals to take up. 2. The actual extent of their upkeep is a bare fraction of what our politicians waste away on nonsensical matters anyway. 3. Most nations have been economic migrants themselves at some point in their existence. We Maltese definitely have and practically all the settlers in Australia were ex convicts or economic migrants from all over the place. Is it not hypocritical now on our part to deny the same rights to others when we were so quick to demand them for ourselves in the past?
We all need to take a few steps back and consider our obligations to the human race and the legacy we are leaving behind by which posterity will judge us.

Clarification. When he said refugees I thought he meant people that come into his country legally. In the United States, people come through Ellis Island in New York to register. That's legal. I was referring to people who are crowded with 100 people in the back of a truck are are sneaken into the U.S.

So now I understand better what he's saying....
Which ones are the more desperate ones, the ones in need? Who is to decide? How far would any of us go to better themselves, to provide a better lifestyle for their family? This isn't a clear-cut matter, when we look deeper into the fate of a single person, will we still be convinced that it's within our rights to deny them what we have? Just wondering.

This could be a very long debate and it would probably turn into an argument which I'm not going to entertain.
I have a heart for people who are down on their luck especially veterans who come home from the war and find that their government doesn't help them with their needs.
I've heard it all my life - Come to America and get rich!! Go to America, you can have anything you want!! That's not the case. You can have what you want if you work for it and pay taxes. I wouldn't deny anyone food from MY table. I would show them how they can do it for themselves. I've worked hard all my life and I lost my job last year. I haven't been able to find a job because of my age. I'm not looking for a handout. I have to live off my social security check.

I'm not in the mood for an argument either, but I had to speak up. I whole-heartedly agree with your sentiment about the veterans, it's heartbreaking to see how many suffer in silence after they risked their lives for the interests of their country. Far more should be done for them, the country owes it to them. I wish you luck in your search for jobs, I hope something will come up soon!
Two of my grandparents came here through Ellis Island one from Germany and one from Ireland.
Both had to learn English. My grandfather's Irish was hard to understand and grandmother only knew German. But they can here through the right channels.
So for me go through the right channels or stay out.

Is there any group of people you do like and are not sick of?

yes I agree also that keeping it legal is important

Ellis Island? Not since 1924 anyway.......
The Immigration Act of 1924 further restricted immigration, changing the quota basis from the census of 1910 to that of 1890, and reducing the annual quota to some 164,000. This marked the end of mass immigration to America. The Immigration Act also provided for the examination and qualification of immigrants at U.S. consulates overseas. The main function of Ellis Island changed from that of an immigrant processing station, to a center of the assembly, detention, and deportation of aliens who had entered the U.S. illegally or had violated the terms of admittance. The buildings at Ellis Island began to fall into disuse and disrepair.

It`s simple actually, no one is twisting your arm to stay ... you can always pack your bags and become a refuge yourself ,in some country with a better economy ...
