Cell phones and dates don't go together (unless you are expecting an important call and have explained this to your date). Having been on a few dates where people whip their phone out to take a call and/or text with another I think they are inconsiderate to their date. My ringer is turned off and I'll check messages privately if need be.

generally speaking it is rude - let it go to voice mail - men and women have dated successfully without cell phones for centuries - and less successfully in recent years with them
