nidi You are right...there seems to be a backlash in the women's rights movement here in the west...I wonder why?...perhaps some men do feel entitled or maybe have a need/desire for control...

If only some men regarding your comment of the treatment of women/females could see the benefit of having a daughter rather looking at her as a burden...but poverty and old traditions make it almost impossible for people to see girls as a gift...
soc Control is another issue...perhaps that need stems from anxiety and this maybe a coping mechanism...bulimia and anorexia?...regardless it is such a horrible disease to treat...many end up with heart problems and multi-organ failure...very sad...
ken Never owned a firearm...I am not afraid to go out at night but I do play it safe when going into unfamiliar areas...usually take my keys and wallet out of my purse...just in case I need to gouge someone's eyes out and save me the hassle of cancelling cards if my purse gets stolen...

ian Sad but true...her parents made a sacrifice for a better future...her parents received monies from the government for her death...not that it would ever replace her...can't imagine the heartache that family is going through...
lucy Thanks for your comments...hard to change some people but with help...it can be done...but people who do not want to talk about it...it will take longer...I think that the story of this victim will make the government be more proactive in seeking justice for women since they have rioted...due to the ban on this documentary...fingers crossed...
ian Old ways or values die hard...but the lawyer was arguing the case for his client...so who knows what his real opinion is...but does send a pretty bad message for women's rights and freedoms...
ian If that comment was for me?...I am merely making sure that people remember to be civil...and the comments are directed so that people will stop making it a personal issue...as for the disrespect of that poor med student...I stated long ago it was opportunistic...she was treated as sub-human without going into the gory details...she was thrown from the bus with her friend after the rare and beating...left to die...that says it all about the disrespect to women in general...
The police may in fact be a problem turning a blind eye due to their own thoughts and feelings...they are now getting sensitivity training according to what I have read...not to mention more police patrolling the city...not sure about the rural areas...
The colonial days are over...India is free from it now...and regarding his opinion...I see no bad intentions here...you have pride which is good but please refrain from this name calling...why don't you give us a look into what the government of India is doing about the inequities of people...from the last conversation we had?...
