RE: happy ramadan

To be complete in my presentation, I am also an atheist, I fiercely believe there is no god; but I do admit that atheism is a faith much like a religious fate, except atheism has only one dogma: There is no god, whereas religions abound with dogma.

At any rate, I have respect for peoples of religions. To me religion is not sin, like to many other atheists. To me a faith is a poetry that speaks to your soul, and you let it in because it is beautiful and it fulfils you with contentment.

I can't have faith, I am too strong in my atheism. If you are as strong in your faith as I am, I trust that you understand my sincerity when I say... Ramadan Kareem, salem a'leikum, Shalom.

RE: Bush Wins the Iraq War

In the middle east it's not "victory" that people want, doofus. It's "peace" they claimor.

"victory is also not very intersting to people there, when the victor is the united states of america. Why do you think those people there whose livelyhoods were pulled out of under their feet, their normal existence, are impressed by a victory?

RE: why all the blank faces???

"i find it funny i like to see the face to "

Absolutely right.

But I noticed that if I want to see a face, I look in the mirror. And then very shortly after, I don't want to see a face.

What I mean, is you've seen one, you've seen them all.

RE: why all the blank faces???

“ Some drink from the fountain of knowledge and the others gargle”.

"Throw money into the crystal fountain of knowledge, do not let your tired steam into it. No matter how many shots of schlivovica you've had that night."

RE: No one takes my occupation seriously, but it doesn

Forgot to add: the sentimental twist was lost on me -- too long, too many turns of speach, by the time the point was made, I was lost in the maze. I don't know which is that last sentence, and I don't know if it warms your heart or not. My IQ is not high enough to keep track of what is which and which is what.

This is strictly a personal account, call it literary criticism if you want to, it is not an opinion or a judgment on your character or on your emotional life.

RE: No one takes my occupation seriously, but it doesn

It's nice to see a person with a truly international and boundaries-free sense of humour.

RE: why all the blank faces???

Drea, you are so right and people are so dumm!!

I think the picture of a cat is the best thing to fantasize on! Depending on the synonym for cat you used...

Oh my god!! You mean you put the picture of a little feline? Of the species "cattus cattus"?

Oh my, I am so embarrassed...

;-)

Historical moment. I decided this moment to use emoticons, and see if it works people's attitude for me. Without emoticons they think I am an arrogant idiot.

This is the first day of a new era for me.

RE: relationship and status, is it really that stress-

You know, it's a better question to ask: What's a table? A device to eat off, or a furniture to put the tv on top of? Is a table a social activity to introduce and issue, or is a table a feature of a word processing software?

I can answer these questions. But I can't define a relationship. Your question is valid, but it's not possible to answer it. Some say that if a question can't be answered, then it's a pointless question. But philosophers don't say that, at all, because their entire paycheque depends on asking questions that are unanswerable.

In my opinion a relationship is a word for two people who pretend to themselves, to others and to each other that they love each other, but they are faking it, actually, because if they were in love, they'd get married.

In other words, a relationhsip is a good word to use when you want to say to another guy "move off my girl, or else", without feeling the need to get into a fistfight over it.

In other words, a relationship is a guiding beacon for sailors who sail treacherous waters with their junks. This is a metaphor.

RE: why all the blank faces???

"with a blank face, i never knew anyone who dated a blank."

I never knew anyone who dated anyone else. Faced or faceless, no difference.

RE: New President George W. Bush book!!!

Jim Morrison of The Doors sang, "they got the guns but... we got the numbers..." 1/20th of the population of the world is toying and potentially and at will destroying 19/20th, of the world's population, because the 1/20th got 99.98% of the destructive weapons power of the world.

RE: New President George W. Bush book!!!

A country gets a leader it deserves.

A world gets a madman to lead a powerful nation which the world did not deserve.

I think the US presidential elections should be done with EVERYONE having a vote in the world, over the age of 18.

Okay, so Americans have more at stake. Therefore I suggest we tweak my suggestion to: People outside America have votes that are each worth 1, and Americans each have a vote in this type of election that is worth 25.

But this can't go on, one guy being voted for by 1/20 of the world, while he or she affects 20/20th of the world's people. Not to mention, that when bush comes to shove, the 19/20th who are not Americans in this world, will suffer each time when that is advantageous for the 1/20th of the world, the Americans.

RE: New President George W. Bush book!!!

I like the expression "semi-autobiography". How does he know he is exactly halfway through to death since birth?

RE: Lenin

I think lots of lenin busts. Every school, in school more than one room.

In my father work place there were three lenin busts in his room, larger lenin busts in the boss's room and a huge lenin bust in the general managare room.

You're right, the company cafeteria was huge lenin monument, in the entrance was big lenin monument.

Maybe you work in field, not office, or on street.

In offices many-many lenin busts.

RE: why all the blank faces???

"to make someone think you like them is wrong "

Erm... I think it's only wrong if you don't like them.

If you like them, and you make them think you like them, that's right, not wrong.

What's wrong with people?

RE: All Knotted up

Forgot to add, what I most like about you is your paragraphing. You do a good job at it, very good. This is what makes your posts readable, above and beyond any other aspect or aspects of your writing.

RE: All Knotted up

Just like you, I sometimes think too much, and worry whether I worry too much, or else I worry not enough.

These are the real issues in life, and I applaud you for your clean insight and admittedly no knowledge in the subject matter.

RE: Lenin

Why is this a rarity? Because Lenin was black in actual life?

RE: 3 days more to live..

"the messenger would be and anger" should read "the messenger would be an angel". should read "the asker would be and anger" should read "the asker would be an angel".

RE: 3 days more to live..

"the messenger would be and anger" should read "the messenger would be an angel".

RE: 3 days more to live..

As an atheist, I'd be really stuck. Whom to believe? Myself, or the communique? How would the message be communicated to me? Via an angel who appears in my dream? Or someone will ask the question on the message board "if god gave the world three days to live, how would you do your part?" and in reality the asker would be and anger (a messenger from god)?

My problem is the credibility of the message bringer. Will I escape death if I disbelieve the messenger and his message? What? What? What?

RE: Surveillance States

What do Hungary, the Philippines, Rothchildland, Bhutan and Zimbabwe have in common?

They have the loveliest looking female prime ministers available on the globe.

RE: I need some helps - please!

My paternal grand-sibling was a magician, and he used to be able to correct his own English compositions with one wave of his magic wand.

Your troubles will be over if you learn that trick.

RE: Medications good for so many different cures.

^^ Forgot to add, I was turned into an object of hatred, because of my stated reasons how I got betrayed and how I did not like that feeling, and how now I keep a watchful eye out for the particular way of betrayal that was hurtful to me, and was done in the same way by the members of a particular and well-definable sub-set of society.

RE: Medications good for so many different cures.

Billy, the OP believed her pharmacist and her doctor. She believed the pill will cure her, and that's why she read the label.

At that point she noticed a huge discrepancy in advice. I think the OP did the right thing in probing the issue, since three people she trusts and believes are expert authorities, gave her two opposing and contradictory instructions. These were: 1. Take these pills for your ills, and 2. Don't take these pills, because they are not recommended for women (and the OP already had the knowledge that she was a woman.)

She knew someone made a mistake, since at the same time and at the same respect a pill cannot be both recommended and not recommended.

So she probed, and she found out that the label was wrong.

Which was one of the authorities she had had trust in.

She now knows she can't trust all labels.

And this hurts, it would hurt me too, to learn that a trusted authority can't be trusted any more.

The OP pleads that the labels be more accurate. This is her way of putting an effort to get her to trust the world again.

She is trying to change the world so that she will be able to trust authorities without question.

A betrayal can do funny things to people, and the first thing it does to them is makes them feel hurt and pain.

There was a pretty lengthy discussion on that matter in another post somewhere else on the public forums or blogs on this site, in which I participated and was declared a heretic and a person to be hated by all other participants.

RE: Medications good for so many different cures.

It's wise not to go to a doctor. And not take his pills. You'll avoid the side effects. And you will very cleverly avoid getting sick from going to the doctors.

However, when I get sick, I go to a doctor. I don't believe that going to a doctor causes illness. If someone says that those who go to doctors will go back again and again BECAUSE they went to the doctor the first time, are very right. But the people who say this, while being right, forgot to think of one important link in the chain of causation, which is that the people who go to doctors go there because they are sick, and not because they want to get sick.

Those who need treatment for a disease that has no cure but can be treated, yes, those people will keep on going back to the doctor.

Those people whose illnesses can be cured, will go to the doctor and then not keep returning to the doctor.

The gold-plated sthetoscopes have nothing to do with what drug cures a disease or mitigates pain and suffering. It has to do with the system in a society how wealth gets distributed among its individuals. This is a political-economic issue, not at all a medical issue. I would never be bitter at someone else making a lot of money, because I would do it too if I could. Blaming a person for legally and lawfully making a bundle, is not that person's personal fault or weakness of character.

RE: Man looking for women

Whoa... hold up, buddy. I thought the Punjab was in Pakistan, not in India.

RE: Man looking for women

You'd immediately double your chances of gaining a loving, successful, matrimonial future, if you reworded your ad to say, "any single or mature man or woman interested in marrying me...." etc.

RE: How does one remove that 'numbness' from the heart

What you are experiencing is the third law of thermodynamics and probably as well the declining return on marginal utilities.

In other words, you will feel happy, and hurt, and happy, and hurt again, on and on. The first happiness is the happiest happiness. The first hurt is the most hurtful hurt. The second happiness will never peak out the apex of the first happiness, and the second hurt will not be so totally devastating. And so on.

The function of your highs and lows will yield diminishing differences or variances from the baseline norm as time goes on.

If you don't like this, blame Isaac Newton.

RE: Frustrated with married men...

If the road to decency is a two-way street, then I'll meet you halfway.

A train leaves London at 4:11 a.m. Another train leaves Liverpool at 2:98 p.m. They meet when the two engines crush a busful of German Neusprachiche Tourists at a railway crossing halfway to Decencey.

Where do the bury the survivors?

Halfway houses are full of residents have completed their O-level "halfway to decency" knitting exhibits.

Half of the job in all journeys of travel is getting there half of the way.

RE: How do you think Obamas doing?

"I am from Canada but I think Obama is doing a great job because of the mess that was left for him. "

Oh, that... I should think there would be a team of CIA operatives whose primary readiness training were in the art of toilet-cleaning.
