i just read an interesting article in the WSJ. It was on Moshed Kalvir, a iman from Iran that now lives in the US. and instructs ar Duke University.

LOl...I listened to the second OReilly/Franks interview tonight.
The first one, I thought they were going to rip each other body parts off. I was happy that it was not a face to face interview. But a video interview. To much blood on the set for my taste.

AS for the Pentagon telling the truth in 30 years from classified records. A story from WWII. My father's unit was in a battle going into Germany across the Rhur river. For 3 days and nights neither side took a prisoner. Nightly as company messanger, he would take replacements to various line units...10-15 men per company. 5 line companies, when the battle began that had 225 each.
At the end of the battle no company had more than 40 men several had less that 20. Now those replacements, he nitely brought into the line units. They don't even have official records of their names that they entered the unit. They pressed them into battle so fast and without proper processing. The Pentagon does not even know where they died. Much less how they died. I would not trust that in 30 years, the Pentagon will give you a declassified answers to questions of combat, Voyager. Besides we the answers today. Now as combat occurs.
I have read Swartzcoff's book but not the other. Friendly fire incidents are always hard to understand. Each incident is unique has different elements of weapons, position, mission, communication and other factors.
alKhalji was the first coalition battle of the first Gulf war. With the intell from J-Star aircraft that Saddam was massing armor forces the day prior, the objective of his attack was easily seen. Khalji was the only real objective for such a force. Saudi General bin Sudan commanded a combined force of Omar and Saudi forces and Gen Swartzcoff commanded Americans. The Iraqi thrust was also at the seam of the two coalition forces. Both applied screening forces. This interlocked the seam that the Iraqi were trying to exploit.
Most here consider it a probing attack. I consider it a wasting attack. Saddam wasted a lot of armor to learn he was not going into Saudi any further.It proved that even though American armor was still coming into and making deployment into Saudi. The coalition had enough artillery, air and armor to stop his advance. He wasted a lot of men to find out.
Think about this, Voyager. Those friendly fire incident that killed your friends. When they interlocked their screening forces, I bet that is where the friendly fire incidents happened. Screening forces have to be mobile.
When they move frequently and fast on the battlefield. Command can not keep their positions updated fast enough. Could not keep the screening and reconn forces from targeting each other. Just a guess there. But that is why we read the books and anaylsis battles and conflicts....so mistakes are reduced and not repeated.

The way I heard this....was Berger was on duty desk at the NSA. It was night. They had gotten an eyes team on binLaden at the camp. To launch (fire) they need a approval from Washington.
