RE: Say something about something, or anything. :)

Are you makin' fun of me makin' fun of this thread a little? laugh Just trying to be humorous--did it fall flat? Go ahead, tell me the truth. (And the Brits wonder why WE don't "get" their comedy!)

RE: The Death Penalty

I know this is a step off the path here, but I have an opinion about Martha Stewart. She really didn't do anything that thousands of people do--and consider this: A few years ago a chain (I won't say which) opened it's stock two days ahead of time for " select clientele", giving people "in-the-know" an unquestionable advantage to hoard, ahead of the general public, trendy healthy shares. How is that different, at least morally, than other types of insider trading? (Insider trading goes on ALL the time. Suppose I own a house, and get an offer on it that is really inflated. (I know for a fact that the house isn't worth as much as the buyer THINKS it is). I don't have to tell him, and I can take all the money he offers me. Martha made the wrong person mad, they happened to be in a position to pay back, and did. If what she did were warranting of the fines, jail time, then this country would be chocked full of people in jail because this sort of thing happens all the time.

RE: Say something about something, or anything. :)

Sorry Love-- On the streets of London do they really have those small metal barrels here and there with little fires going in them--poor folks are huddled around them, etc... or is that just a Hollywood thing?

Cratchit: I'd like tomorrow off, sir, if quite convenient.

Scrooge: It is not convenient. And it's not fair.

Cratchit: And you will celebrate Christmas, sir?

Scrooge: Celebrate it! What's merry about a hubbub and a poor
excuse to pick a man's pocket? Go ahead and have your
toilsome Christmas off, then! But be here all the
earlier day after!

I hope you can get a little warmer. In colonial times, they would bake potatoes and put them in the bed to warm it. Just a thought...Have a great Christmas, Goddess. But...be back here on CS all the earlier on boxing day!hug

RE: Say something about something, or anything. :)

Hey! I've been looking for you today!! Why? Because after our thread with the young guy lashing out to everybody about religion (it got locked, b t w) you had posted a Holiday song, which sparked the creative genius in ME!! SO....here's my song!

I saw my wrestling coach kissing Santa Claus
Underneath the mistletoe last night,
He didn't seem to see me
As he cuddled Santa freely
I saw my wrestling coach kissing Santa Claus last night.

Oh what a joke it would be
If Daddy were here to see
His friend my wrestling coach kissing Santa Claus last night!teddybear Merry Christmas, Boban!thumbs up thumbs up

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

cheers to my wild and crazy Celtic friends..you put a smile on my face and laughter in my heart! Good night--I made a lady friend mad, it was her fault, but I defended myself and made her mad. Now we won't talk or go gadding about for months. s i g h it really was her fault! Dang, why does trouble find me ? It's bloody hell being a guy!handshake

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

Uh, his name is Tarzan. Yur so dumb...wink

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

You are just one wild little bronco, aren't you?heart1

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

It's called "accommodating scripture", Love. I'll write more in a few minutes--my cyber cowboy just flagged me. thx!

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

yes, sir. Hope does spring eternal, however.

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

some corners to sweep out, then. Try to understand that you are appearing to be condescending to people two and three times your age. Not a good plan. Have you ever considered thinking about things yourself, without all the quotes, dogma, doctrine? (it's really O.K.- Really). The God I believe in told me it's all right to use the cognitive processes He gave me. Honest. It's OKAY. Try it. There is nothing wrong with discovery. Read "Desiderata". Relax, it was written by a Christian. It's a wonderful, powerful non-condemning piece of literature. I wonder if you have a grasp on the unconditional love of God. Assuming you do, then understand that it is either unconditional or it is not. Can't have it both ways. It is good that you earnestly search and find spiritual satisfaction at so early an age. You are very young to be so unadmiringly reluctant to listen to the counsel of the elders. You are trying to move the beach with a teaspoon!

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

spot. on. thumbs up

RE: What do you think about the Ark Encounter?

Yes, and who shall we believe is truly inspired then, my friend? Even established churches don't agree with doctrine. Where is the harmony in that? In fact, ministers will jokingly talk of another denomination, as if to imply that their patience with those "errant ones" will suffice to win them to Glory. Yeah, that's love, all right. The truth is that none of us will ever, in this life, be able to sort it all out, and even if we could, I say the miracle is that it is a different experience for each of us; and trying to put an umbrella policy on what we say God's relationship with another person is, is extremely and erroneously presumptuous. Have you ever heard of Epicurus? He wrote of human kind's journey of a zest for understanding. God is just fine with our desire and need to find reason and purpose in the world and universe, and to question Him. Look, He put brain cells in us, didn't He? Do you think He was just playing Tiddly Winks? Just bored, was He? Read Epicurus--I'll get you started:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then He is not omnipotent.
Is He able, but not willing?
Then He is malevolent.
Is He both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is He neither able or willing?
Then why call Him God?

get it?

RE: drinking

Sure do. Here in the U.S. it varies by state, many have laws/ordinances banning ANY consumption of alcohol in public (rules change slightly during ball games in city parks). In many towns in Nevada, one could walk downtown from casino to casino with a beer, etc... I understand from friends in Reno that the police in downtown are citing this now, and many who live there or frequent the town are upset by it.

RE: Aggresive Women...

Aggressive individuals, either gender, get checked off my list. Fast. I am not impressed.

RE: TRANSPARENCY in Health Care

It has taken me over two years to get adequate and fair health care coverage. I was in the position of being just a few dollars above the poverty level required to get a link low cost insurance while waiting for both insurances (which I had pre-purchased) to activate. In a nutshell--clerically too rich to get a subsidy or lower rate adjustment, no real money to pay, though, (a catch 22 of critical proportions). I liquidated close to 100% of assets to survive medically. Needing a physician for prescription writing, I was hung up on-- not because I couldn't pay (I was willing to pay cash upfront-in fives and ones if necessary!) but because I had NO medical insurance. Because I had worked in the field (can you even believe it?!) for 30 years, I knew why--once a doctor takes the case he/she is obligated and they are afraid that without insurance you will only pay the one time. And many do just this. Having worked closely with Medicare variances, and having former employers who were physicians was my advantage point; it had been my job to navigate the murky waters of government medical red tape so I kind of knew . (You must be diligent. You must have ALL your ducks in a row. Take names, keep a running journal of all attempts to contact, exact times, dates, what was said, to whom, what you were told to expect, what you could do in case the results were unsatisfactory, and so on. They system is designed to weed out frivolous cases. You must be your own advocate.

I support our new president--without his landmark assistance to people needing medical care (contrary to the popular belief, most have worked, earned their right to adequate heath services), people would be much worse off than they are now. It's not this teeming pool of ne'er do wells many conservatives would have us believe-it's your friends, neighbors, the guy you worked with at the mill, a waitress, etc...

RE: favorite movies

Can someone tell me the name of that movie where all the angels start their day with a meeting on the beach--I think Nicolas /cage is in that one--also, one where he plays a carpenter-angel, who gives up his wings for love, or something like that? Another movie I started to watch a few years ago but didn't get to finish was Robin Williams who played a robot butler who discovered he had feelings - kind of like an episode of Star Trek where Data did kind of the same thing--anyway, just rambling--I liked both versions of The Parent Trap, Suspect (Cher's best movie if you ask me), Morning Glory with Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford. That's all I can think of for now. Oh, yes, I still like to see Sound of Music occasionally.

RE: What would do it for you ?

He'd hug me and say, "You're cuter than a bug's ear"

RE: What's the deal?

Sometimes when people meet, and/or have even known each other for awhile, it just isn't "there". It doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with the person, sometimes things just don't harmonize, or at least do not sustain harmony, as we would like. Of course it is the best policy to be honest, then, but this is difficult to do. He probably knew that you found him appealing, and on reflection, albeit after the fact, he just wasn't on the same page. Many find it extremely difficult to be honest in and about a departure, so they do it clumsily, without class. Just didn't work out--hey, this is really not so astonishing--look at the tons of long-term relationships that don't work out in the end. I know you may find this uncaring of me, and I really don't mean for it to be, but he has a right to change his mind. He really should have talked with you about it, that is true, but like I said, it's difficult. Why do you think the phrase "A good man is hard to find" became such a common statement? My suggestion, as usual, is to can the internet meeting stuff and meet somebody in person, for real, at a cafe or bowling alley or art show or college or the like. Best--handshake

RE: Reno, Nevada

I have been to Reno many, many times. Absolutely love that town. The people (regulars) are very friendly, you can get to quite a bit of the town on foot (it's not that big in size). Try "The Little Nugget" downtown (Virginia Street), Cal-Neva, The Sands. If you rent a car, go to "Bonanza" outside of the main town, it's past the college (UNR) anyone who lives there can tell you. It's not hard to get to, and a local favorite. Which brings me to this: Trust the town regulars--note where THEY hang out. They aren't dumb. Reno is a big fave of mine, wish I could go!

RE: Vote on the Tea Party yes or no.

In the 1960's while in grade school we were taught that there were either six or seven (depending on school of thought) with the argument being Europe and Asia were "connected" so did not really definitively qualify as two separate continents. The term used was "Eurasia", but it seems to have fallen out of usage. As bright as I am (wink ) before I read this I forgot about Antartica! uh oh

RE: Hello Everybody

Oh boy....careful Bud..hug

RE: Hello Everybody

He offended people without cause, Amity. Uncool.

RE: Hello Everybody

Great. I got asked to two dinners--one early and one in the evening, so it was a total holiday for me. Both hosts were awesome, quite tender toward me as a person (yes, I'm a mama's boy) so it was really an Ozzie & Harriet experience. The food was out of this world--the later dinner the turkey was so well baked it melted in your mouth. Home-made pumpkin pie with real fresh made whipping cream, a creamed oniion and peas salad that was fit for royalty--it was great. wink Love you, ducks

RE: Hello Everybody

Let's see: so far you have been out and out discourteous to some very nice ladies, you have shown more than enough arrogant ego, and you insulted a wonderfully warm and kind military officer. The shrapnel seems to be coming from you.
