Are you in favor or disfavor of the Death Penalty, or are you in between? In the USA, it varies from State to State with Texas, Ohio and Florida being the strongest to support the Death Penalty.

What do you believe? Some people say that it is a much more punishment to leave the Criminal in prison for life. The families of the victims think otherwise.

It takes many years and many appeals to finally put the convicted to death. This is a very heavy load on the tax payer.

Some people (including the Police) believe that the person should be shot to death on site. That is not a fair way to go about it either. They may be innocent and deserve a fair trial.

I voted in certain circumstances.

This is a very good video. It shows how the families of the convicted feel about the death penalty.

I agree with it..

If someone goes out to kill a person, then I dont see why they should live, they have ruined the poor victims families lives..

people like the Moor Murderes, the Bulger killers, Ian Huntley etc... where they have killed and tortured kids on purpose... well they dont deserve to live, but they end up in prison, at the tax payer expense, living a cushy life, with TVs, PC's decent meals..

for me its simple, if its 100% proven that you are guilty of murder which is the intent to take some-ones life then you should have your life taken away ( eye for an eye )
we are more worried about the criminals rights than the victims rights. the victim has lost their life so why should the criminal keep theirs. i wonder how people would feel if some-one planted a bomb and a family memeber lost his or her life i bet they would want the death penalty then and thats still murder.
i totally begrudge paying my taxes to keep some-one in prison feed them, cloth them etc when they have taken a life. Come on people criminals are criminals lets stop worrying about their rights ( criminals should have NO rights ) and start worrying about the VICTIMS rights.

thumbs up thumbs up to Ohio and Florida.

I am against anything that will put another person's life in jeopardy.

If someone is convicted for murder, make sure s/he stays in jail for life.

But kill one person as punishment for another killing?? In my opinion that's wrong. And in addition to that, it doesn't achieve anything. JMO.

BUT.....jail should not simply be provided food, housing, healthcare and other things I have to pay for by working long hrs.

There should be plenty of hard work and therapy. If they get better then maybe sent to a prison alloted for lesser crimes....and can work their way down to less harsh punishments over time BUT never realesed.

We can spare society of murder-for-murder and have them pay or at least aid in paying the cost of thier term.

Likewise....those that do not cooperate in the "lower" prisons moe UP to harsher punishments and work until time is served.

Still, I don't think the death penalty is a deterrent for anything.

Would you think differently if the victim was a close member of your family?

Way too much to consider, to make a choice. Illnessess, blackouts, provocation, etc.----

To proof a person guilty might not be an option due to the complexcity of the mind in the person who committed the crime.

I can understand the family of the victim wanting and screaming for death, but that is hurt and hate, grief and revenge are both strong instincts, enough powerful to lead us over the edge. We all think of war.

Nop, I am not in favour of death penalty, although I know for sure I would not trust myself with a gun if someone did hurt anyone in my family.

invinciblemuse: That's what shocked me about the UK - a life sentence seems to translate into 15 years in jail. I don't support that - if you've taken a life, you should be in jail for life - and 15 years on average is just not enough. Life should mean until the end of your natural life.

this is problem life today does not mean life because of this good behaviuor early release crap. criminals should have no rights.

Well, as I mentioned in another thread, a close friend of mine was murdered in 1997. The murderer was never caught.

I have thought long and hard about whether I'd like to see the person, who killed him, dead, or in prison.

After long deliberations I have to say, I'd like to see the person, who robbed me of a dear friend, locked up, but I wouldn't want him to die.

The murderer being dead would not bring my friend back, and I'm pretty sure that my friend would cringe at the suggestion of anyone being killed in his name.

But that's just vengeance.

Most of these people are not hardened criminals and they can't 'do' prison. Many of them commit suicide, Ian Huntley has been revived three times after suicide attempts.

My point is, for child murderers in particular, prison life is a living hell.

They should be left to wallow in misery in my opinion.

The death penalty is nothing more that legalised revenge by the State, and a clear statement of incompetence and barbarism. No self-respecting civilised country has the death penalty. Those who had it in the past, learned that it never prevented a single murder, so to continue it is simply crass stupidity.
