Hence my comment of the flawed costs. Yes, I know it happens and it is a current system, but those that use those figures argue against the death penalty because of those figures.
What they do not mention was if there was no appeal system, then the playing fields would be level, the costs would be EXACTLY the same.
Ergo, if you are banged to rights, you get no appeal and that reduces the costs.

Simples.
And if my aunt had balls
I was talking about the current system
And without the right to appeal there would be serious miscarriages of justice.
bodleing: If that were true, why are there so many murders in countries where they have the death penalty?

Steve5721: Not if you are 10000000% banged to rights it won't me old mucker!
Im not saying people dont deserve it Steve but again, I am talking about the current system which is flawed, and I have posted previously about wrongful convictions where without the right of appeal they would have been executed. This is one of the reasons I am against it.

craig63: for me its simple, if its 100% proven that you are guilty of murder which is the intent to take some-ones life then you should have your life taken away ( eye for an eye ) we are more worried about the criminals rights than the victims rights. the victim has lost their life so why should the criminal keep theirs. i wonder how people would feel if some-one planted a bomb and a family memeber lost his or her life i bet they would want the death penalty then and thats still murder. i totally begrudge paying my taxes to keep some-one in prison feed them, cloth them etc when they have taken a life. Come on people criminals are criminals lets stop worrying about their rights ( criminals should have NO rights ) and start worrying about the VICTIMS rights.
to Ohio and Florida.
Agreed. Here in South Africa prisoners have a right to vote. What a damn cheek. An eye for an eye is fair.

vinny1967: Here is some information on murder rates by state in the US which shows that States without the death penalty have fewer murders...........Go figure
I don't think the death penalty acts as a prevention.
I disagree. Our convicted criminals walk smiling into the jail cells - they could care less. Maybe if they were going to their death they wouldn't be so happy.

vinny1967: I believe in justice too. I also feel that the richer you are, the more chance you will not be brought to justice. Does not seem fair to me. I was also disgusted at the outcome of that trial.
Yes Vinny, It was disgusting (outcome), I cried and was mortified because my friends teased me for weeks about my strong reaction. That's when I really started thinking about our justice system and how faulty it has become. This country, my country, is a proud and yes, good, nation. With our resources and talent, I believe there is nothing we cannot achieve, including fixing our own messes and leading with dignity. I would like to see us clean up things at home first. I would like to see "fair play" back on the field. I really need a reason, a good one, to keep positive A. I was against the stimulus package too. Think it's time we bite the bullet and get back to basics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe, but from what I have read on this it doesn't act as a prevention for them committing the crime.

prisoners are prisoners because they have committed a crime against society and should have no rights and be punished for the crime. sadly today we have more do gooders protecting criminals rights and with no thought to the victims rights. EYE FOR AN EYE.
Thank You!!! But I am way behind on dialogue, had to go to bed (alone guys, so don't start!!) and now must get beautified because I am meeting (1st time) someone from this site for lunch. If I'm not back in 6 hours, send out a possy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know guys...I kinda like the thought of offenders waking up EVERYDAY for the REST of thier miserable lives knowing they will NEVER see the outside world again. Its a type of slow torture that I find fitting, rather than murdering them which seems too merciful to me...Why should we put them out of thier misery? Keep them locked in a box for the rest of thier lives.

Yeah, keep em locked up, just find a way to make them pay for their accommodations please!!!

Good point. I agree they should be put to work doing mindnumbing assembly work or some such. Cleaning public toilets in leg irons so people can laugh and point, that sort of thing

SoldierByte: Being SO damn educated.. I guess YOU are allowed to determine who the jerks are.. Look in the mirror.. and don't let it frighten you.. I believe in the death penalty.. but allowing "such as you" to believe you are either "god-like" or "our leader" is a big NO-NO.. That is WHY we have elections, courts, AND PENALTIES.. ---SoldierByte---
