The Hemmingway I have heard of was a writer, which were a bit tooo deep for me...glad they weren't part of the school carriculum.

The "Sarendon" that I know of is "Susan" and do love seeing her. Has done quite a few over the years and is still doing them these days.

Pedal, I might have a not so good thing about guys in lycra who try to challenge 2-tonne vehicles for right of way but.......have you never read The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings and wanted to see what some have interpreted from those books?

Spock & Co were/are a bit extreme. Or were a bit for their time. A lot of Asimov to solve before that happens.

RE: Wow, 15 pages

I will be at my sister's 60th this Saturday and obviously meeting a lot of her friends and 'new' extended family who I don't know at some posh place in Sydney Rocks' area.

I have a problem with Rule #37, I have known too many women that know more than mefrustrated so have kept away from that interl inteli smart stuff with them.

Althoough if you do break down the word "intelligent' (found a dictionary), it could be dervived from and a very old English expression ....... and lost its original meaning due to pronunciation (totally whole new subject about Franklin's English dictionary and the 100 year later 'proper pronunciations') ...... "in t' gents."dunno

RE: Australia is expected to provide a dumping ground by Indonesian Government

Aussie Passports last for 10 years and can be re-issued (I think) within 1 year of expiry without having to start all over again. If you are like me and don't use it very much, it is easy to let it expire. Last time I used it 2004 and it had plenty of time left on it.

I went to use mine as a form of ID a few years ago and it was not acceptable because it was out of date by over 1 year.

Unless I win one of those competitions I never enter, unlikely I will need a passport, unless I need one to go to Tassie.

RE: Fires burning every which way round East Gippsland

I was up at Wandin 4wd Show yesterday morning and was talking with a guy who had come over from Eltham in his Series Land Rover. It had rained all the way, wipers are never good on Landies. We did have a couple of light showers although 1 was enough for everyone to seek shelter - lots of displays had suddenly more people interested in their products, until it stopped.

Forecast from Weds is for more rain and cooler weather.

RE: Shark attacks

There were quite a few species that disappeared after the Jurrasic era.

Darwin was the one to advent "Survival of the fittest." Cockroaches, crocs & sharks still survive.

RE: The Best And The Worst Years Of Your Life

Best and worst? How do you "survive" when you have married someone you see as being a very much stronger person and they can't deal with things? And then they put all that crap on you?

My best was having 2 great children with someone I loved dearly. My worst was being seperated from them during their informative years.

RE: Schapelle Corby ......

Sorry, but juries have gotten it wrong before. On saying that, it was her boogie board and it was her responsibility. I am not a professionally boogie board rider who would take my personalised boogie board for an holiday in an area where surf is often not so good.

It is interesting that her father was said to be a small-time grass dealer (saw that on tv) but he is not around to refute that.

RE: Fires burning every which way round East Gippsland

Hoping you have a slow fire front to be able to do something about it. Melb missed out on rain today but fb page from my daughter showed some rain north of the Great Divide. Forecaste is possible rain for Sunday - going to the 4WD Show at Wandin and hoping it holds off while I am there.

RE: Shark attacks

Sharks are at the top of the ocean sea-chain. NSW banned the sale of shark in Fush N Chup shops due to the high mercury content at the top end of the food-chain. Vic and other states do not have that problem, yet.

Ummm, cattle release a lot of methane gases affecting our atmosphere. We should be looking to our OCEANS for more sustainable and eco-friendly food supplies. But don't kill the fish.

RE: Shark attacks

Actually, they do. When it is known that a lion finds "man" as easy prey, they do kill it.

Back to sharks. A simple fact is that no one on a netted beach has been bitten by a shark unless they have totally ignored the warnings. Many alarms on those very hot days for everyone to get out of the water as sharks can easily go over the top of those nets.

Sydney has a lot of shark nets along its foreshores. Has anyone ever seen one? Are people aware they are out there? NO, they are not.

Do people feel safe in Sydney coastal waters? YES, without really knowing what the State Govt is doing to provide that so they can enjoy those cooling waters. More chance of being caught in a rip and drowing these days than by being gotten by a shark.

Nah, I was only ever Size 11. But my son is Size 14. And about 2" taller than I ever was.

Luckily, I do have the use of gum arabic to hold my teeth in(courtesy of Bin Laden International Enterprises).

RE: Manners

Sorry Merri, I just used you as an example here about photos, sorry about that...then again. Odd thing is that a picture can say a lot. Take Mona Lisa as a very good example.

I have just finished reading a book relating to Netherlander artists of the late 16th Century. Very descriptive of what can be seen/interpreted in paintings and what may be whatt the artist is trying to convey.

People put up photos of themselves and then try and convey themselves in a few words about themselves. We are too complex to explain in 25 words or less.

My parents were born into well-to-do families. The Great Depression ended my grandfather's building business and meant many cutbacks to my mother's family (no more servants). The one thing my parents did insist on was "proper manners" when dealing with anyone.

Yeah, I have looked at a few photos on here and "voted" for a few. I have looked at WVM and who has given me a decent score. But do I really need to respond to someone younger than my children that finds me "attractive?" Does this 21 yo think that for my age and the photo I have provided is a great shot?

Yeah, sometimes I respond and thank them for having pity on me, usually curious to find out what they have seen in the picture.

RE: Sochi

Interesting fact that came across during my viewing. The Netherlands spends more than 6 times on their speed skating program than Aust spends on its whole winter program.

RE: Sochi

Due to "No reason to have to get up and go to work in the morning" I have managed to watch the Winter Olympics as they happen. Yeah, she missed out by a very small margin from winning the gold.

And then when the interviews are considered, she does have a few problems that should have excluded her from competing.

Yeah, Torah should be an insperation to us all.

Yesterday was warm/humid, I decided that sitting back was better than getting a bit sweatydoh frustrated frustrated

RE: Manners

Okay, I look at a primary profile pic that has her head turned away. Do I chase this further because she does not appear to be "aged" when I am looking for some "spark in my life?"

Okay, I look further. Does she/will she interest me further. Okay, she has "looked" at my profile. If she was interested, she would have made some sort of contact with me. Okay, there may be some form of contact but....

yeah, her profile is very, very attractive. But what next? I live here, she lives there. I have already moved away from my "nearest and dearest" and found some difficulties with making new friends (plenty of aquaintenances) but do I want to start again?

RE: Fires burning every which way round East Gippsland

Campfire easily runs a billy and frypan. Even a wood-fired steam engine will get a very high water-pressure going. Yep, even the "ancient ways" can sometimes beat the new technologies.thumbs up

RE: Fires burning every which way round East Gippsland

Oops, pic/specs disappeared. But the 8m Max suction ... the Max 330 Litres/Min ... Max Head Lift 80m may ... will not be at the same time. Trouble with advertising. You only get 1 of these, not all at the same time.

Like anything, you do have to look at what your ultimate/intended use will be.

Away slightly but...

A 4 cylinder car has great economy but will it tow your 50' caravan?

A Toyota Landcruiser V8 double turbo chargerd with all the electronic whizzy thingys is great for doing stuff and towing the 50' caravan.

okay, you want the Toyota (or Nissan, Volvo, BMW, Merc) with all the whiz-bang bells & whistles stuff but then if you really want to go "off-road" you need to upgrade this and that.

Or do you buy a Land Rover product (sometimes??? cheaper in price, quality much less comfort) that can drive out of the showroom and achieve all of the off-road expectations without mega upgrades? But does not have "the grunt."

The many offers around these days have to be very carefully weighted to what your expectations are.

Yeah, the very lovely lady from ...(do not want to go there on that bit) is offering undying love for (looking for that bit) ... and will...ummmmmmm

This is not a political or religious thread, unless you have a relevant photo (love your one Rob). Start a new one if you must and I am more than willing to add my diatribe.

RE: Fires burning every which way round East Gippsland

Midday weather report was forecasting light rain only for southern Victoria. Hopefully there will be decent rain in other areas, looks like the Grampians may get a decent fall.

Looking at the pump, seems use is more for tranferring water but some reducers along the way could build up some pressure if it is not trying to pump water to far uphill.

RE: Am I mr invisible

For the extra cost, I did it myself. No, I don't have "Howard Brows."

RE: Am I mr invisible

But do you have his looks???? Yeah, I would take your coffee.

More like De Niro's if you let it grow.

RE: Am I mr invisible

If I am very careful and cut below my jawline, it gets rid of the white hairs. Then just have a salt and pepper beard (Peppard or Clooney?). At one time I had the ginger bits like Doug Parkinson, but looked like I had dribbled.

RE: Am I mr invisible

My Mum never talked about thatdunno

RE: Fires burning every which way round East Gippsland

I was doing some work with the 'clean-ups' after Black Saturday with the Land Rover Club of Victoria. One of the few properties that "survived" had done a lot of work in being able to 'defend' the property. He lost a few/many $1,000s of vehiciles but the home was saved. Sprinkler systemon top of the roof worked fine until....

A pump had been installed between the 2 concrete water tanks. Unfortunately (as the guy learnt) there was some spare fuel stored next to the pump. The superheat exploded the fuel and destroyed the pump and the poly pipes. Luckily for them, the worst was the vehicles and the pump being destroyed. Their home was missed.

If the delivery system is not "protected" it does not matter what suction/delivery system you have.

But with a smaller outlet than inlet, pressure delivered may make a difference.

RE: Am I mr invisible

Thinking about it, Micky, where those really "mutton chop" sideburns or just those down below the glasses?

I had to shave off my beard after having it for 27 years. The only comment I ever got was from Mum ..... "I do like you with a beard."

Feb Photo Comp - Broken or Restored Household Object

I'm not sure if vehicles come under "Household Objects." Ummmm, my brother has just "rebuilt" an old buggy to suit more current times. Started with a buggy from around 1880, added wheels from around 1920 (had to be modified because of current regulations), added a 'mincer' from the 1950s as a tail-light, fitted mudguards from a 1930s Dodge. Real "object d'art."

Movies

I watched the 1st Hobbit movie at the gigantic screen at Katoomba NSW and ended up with a bad neck from swivelling around to catch everything going on. But glad it wasn't in 3D.

I do do usually have a "date night" for Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies but did missed out in January. Just hope it is still on when I am up there next week. And hope to see it in 3D.

RE: Sunday

Nov-Feb are hard months for me for a number of reasons. I could "use" someone to get me to think about other things. But I don't for those reasons. I don't want that to be my reason for meeting "The One."

RE: Sunday

Understand that bit about enjoying what you want when you want. Enjoy watching the Sochi Olympics in the early hours although sick of seeing the same "Live" feeds during the day. Think I have seen the Budgie Smuggler on the beach 4 times now.
