RE: Interesting news tip-bits

I could suggest 3 in Melb that I know of..... Banditos, Comancheros & Rebels.

And a big NO, the Mongols (as advertised on the VicPol website for recruitment) do not figure here, yet.

RE: All Day socks

Heard many tales about how good they are.

I bought a pair of Merino Sole socks for $15 about 10 years ago and only wear them when I go outback, which is about every 2 years. And NO, I do not wear them every day while away.

I have found that I can wear them for 2 days without a problem. All other thick "work" socks I usually change every day. And found over the years that the "work" socks on special at the markets are are lucky to last a day before needing a change. And only lasting a few washes.

But I have found that in a lot of the country places where they do AgFests and shows, you can pick up some decent socks. Wear them all day and not have the "got to have them off NOW."

I am happy to pay for quality products that last more than 2 washes .... excuse the punconfused

RE: Four point four Kilos to my ideal body weight...

Shopping bill at the suprmarket for Thursday was $52.83 (including GSt $0.00 plus rounding UP of $0.02 because I paid cash). Most expensive item was the Australian made Olive Oil at $7.00 followed by the Latina pre-packaged pasta at $6.00 (does 6 meals for me). The olives and cheese and fetta cheese were $4.92 each for the week.

Add to that the $25.00 for meat from the butcher for the week (I do enjoy the 2 Porterhouse steaks).

But I do not include anything there for smokes and drinks, they cost more each week than the food.

Now when I do get around to getting the extras I do like (coffee, soft toilet paper, etc) or cleaning stuff, it does come a bit more.

And not having a dog these days does reduce the bill a lot. I always made sure he had decent food. Even if I didn't. He "helped" me through so many years. Have to look after friends.

RE: More Random Thoughts ....

The morning started out okay in Melb but almost thinking about lighting the fire. 11º in Melbourne now, not been much more all day. Topped 15º and expecting 17º tomorrow. And topping this week on Thursday with 25º before the cold front moves in.

I bought paint a week ago to do the outside and it has been too miserable to even think about getting out.

RE: inclined to be daring

Old Timers has kicked in and I can remember when I did have the 6-pack. All that surf club training, out drinking and dancing and getting home early enough to wake my father up on weekends so he could mow the lawn under my window.

Yeah, them were the days, stones.sigh sigh

Have been dealing with a double 6-pack of late.dunno moping

But have managed to work it down a bit to an 8-pack.

RE: Interesting news tip-bits

Isn't 10am to start a mower on Sundays? I ran out of fuel 4 days ago halfway through the back lawn. At least I got the outer edges done.

And Bathurst started at 10.30am. Was a good race, even if Pord Palcon won. And 8 of the top 10 were HOLDEN.

RE: Interesting news tip-bits

Considering that the recent shoot-ups have been in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs where turf wars have being going on for many years between 3 other prominent gangs, it does make some think about why they went for the quietest bikie gang who are in the northern suburbs.

I am not saying that they are totally innocent, just that if the police were serious, they should be going after the biggest troublemakers first.

RE: Four point four Kilos to my ideal body weight...

I usually go shopping about once a week. Have that little carry thing that hangs off my arm in the supermarket. Usually have to hang on to the milk as it crushes all the stuff in the basket.

Mostly vegies which I could buy cheaper than the supermarket from the greengrocer across the way. But they do not have everything I want. Which means going to the greengrocer for somethings, into the supermarket for some other things, and then back to the greengrocer after comparing prices. And then a few days later throwing out the rotten greengrocer produce.

My shopping bill (without fresh meat from the decent butcher) is about $50 each week. I spend more on that on the one night I take my daughter and son-in-law out for dinner each week ... he does have to have the 1/2 tonne steakdunno

I line up in the checkout queues behind people who do have to have so many prepackaged foods. "That will be $360.64, Charlene. Do you have your Loyalty/Flybuys Card with you? Will that be EFPOS or Credit? See you next week, Charlene. Sorry, sir, there will be a slight delay while this valued customer loads up her trolley."

RE: Beef,Pork, Lamb etc....

Seems that a lot of them land here via the Long White Cloud.

RE: Interesting news tip-bits

Something like 40 years ago, I had 'associations' with the Angels in Sydney. Even then, they were a very professional organisation. Even Snowy who lived down from me was kicked out for "inappropriate behaviour."

Moving to Melbourne 11 years ago, I met a guy who was very "knowledgable" on Melb bikies. Never once were the Angels mentioned. A few of the others were pushing turf limits and causing a bit of conflict.

With the Angels having a bad rep from the 60s & 70s, especially in the USA, and always keeping out of the conflicts around the place, I do get to thinking "Why them, why now?"

Especially as 3 other groups (B, C & R) are in continual conflict over turf.

RE: Four point four Kilos to my ideal body weight...

Well done to the 3 of you.

PrOwLeR for sticking out the hard yards to get your weight to near what you want. Not far to go now. Being a diabetic for over 30 years, I am not in a position to just skip meals or rely on just rabbit food. Should exercise more - taken to walking the 1km to the shops when I want cigarettes. It helps but....

Serene for getting the last unit done of your course. Must be a relief. I remember the relief of doing my final Uni exam, except going down to the Uni bar afterwards and everyone asking "What did you answer for that?" Damn, could not remember what I had written. But made it through and it felt so good about graduating. Fingers crossed for you.

And NotABuxomBlonde getting to where you can see the light at the end of the course. It won't take long now to get that final unit out of the way.

RE: Honesty.........is it a lonely word?

Hi (we have become Yankeefied) Torless doh

RE: More Random Thoughts ....

Now is this Prowler in disguise or is Lookin trying to take some winning form?

Know what you mean with Telstra. Have used them for something like 15 years for internet. Had problems at first with the dial-up system where it would crash in the middle of stuff and took many tries to get it going again. Called them and complained as I was in the middle of doing research for my Uni studies.

They said something about "you get what you pay for." "Hang on, Telstra, I pay for a service and don't have one as it keeps dropping out." They did something and didn't really have a problem since. Until........

Recently I got a phone call about the Internet deal I was on. Seems to be an "old" deal that is not offered anymore. We have a new super dooper one which will cost you less if you sign up for a 2-year contract. Asked them to email the details about what he had offered over the phone so I could look at it and see if it was competitive.

The email failed to give me a lot of the information that the caller had "informed" me was available. I did write down a lot of the stuff.

The day after, the internet started freezing up and it is very slow.dunno crying frustrated drinking

RE: Interesting news tip-bits

Don't have a problem with that. There are many companies that pay their employees to undertake health programs and cover all expenses.

At least this PM is willing to mingle with ordinary people and not hide in the Parliamentary gym (Dining Room).

This is the 2nd PM who does show he is willing to look after his health. Howard did his morning walks, and nothing was funnier than the USA Secret Service following him around Washington & New York on his morning walks.

And the PMs pay? I think there are a lot of Local Council's paying their CEOs more than that. And only a fraction of what the CEOs of Telstra, Qantas and a lot more private companies are paid. Ziggy got something like $13M one year when Telstra shares were dropping.

Having just finished a semi-fictional novel where "political funding of candidates" was an issue, I do see that there has to be some form of reimbursement for those that have a genuine interest in our political and economic future rather than "we paid for you to win, you pay us back."

RE: Interesting news tip-bits

Having been in Local Govt employ for many years and seen Councillors do a lot of these "Fact Finding Tours" when those that do the real work back at home, it is good that B-J can "justify" his trip in a 6 page report for the wedding to Gina that I should have been the groom.

I sat through a presentation from a first and only time Counsellor (he would not stand again) telling us about the wonderful trip he had through Europe extolling the virtues of LED public street lighting, visiting many (?) factories along the way.

And following that, I was then hit on by every LED supplier in Australia to install their product. He passed my name on.frustrated frustrated

Okay, ongoing costs are cheaper but the installation price was something we did not have the money for.frustrated

70% of Aust's cotton currently goes to China. China has 60% of the current World's cotton in storage. Aust looks at having a very good cotton crop next year. China is now considering restricting imports to support their local cotton market.

Talking with a guy out of Bourke and he said it costs about $1M to plant a crop. They are looking at $5M from each crop but actual returns are only slightly more 1 in 5 years.

We do need to keep developing out export markets, especially after the "live cattle export" fiasco which crippled a big part of our overseas income.

RE: NRL Grand Final

Manly & Easts have always been the silver-tail Clubs with too much money to spend on players.

The only reason they let Brisbane into NRL was so that people could hate someone besides Manly.

When that got a bit lopsided and nearly everyone hated Brisbane, they let Melbourne enter a team.

And then did the dirty on them when they kept on winning.

Have had to do this when I was still in the workforce and I had made a decision but the bosses had decided otherwise without telling me.

"Due to financial constraints, we are unable to provide this service this finanical year. Your request is very high on our priority list and will be attended to as soon as funding is available."

And then the bosses decide that it is more political to do the work, even though the someone has to find the non-existant money for the works that have no tangible benefit for the community.dunno

The daughter has a pet rabbit, Himalayan type, kept in the back yard. 2 weeks ago, they found a 4 week old common rabbit under the daisy bush out the front. Himalayan does want to do a bit of Imalayin with the female kitten rabbit.
