I don't wish to suggest I'm lacking an adventurous spirit, and, if anything, moving here was great for my career.
There's the obvious, being away from what you know, your favorite restaurants, friends, etc.
I think my issues are specific to my locale. I should preface this, lest it sound like an indictment of all, that there ARE some very nice people here.
I am hardly the gregarious type, but I do acknowledge (a hello, a nod, a smile) the presence of others. In my old complex back in Michigan, I knew everybody - here, even after five years, only a handful will make eye contact.
I am not overly concerned about image. Here, people over-extend themselves to get The Address, only to buy furniture two years later. They lease the most expensive car they can get. I am content with what I need. Okay, I don't really need two bikes.
I suppose this sums it up best: I was talking with someone who once clarified where I live. She said I was in East Costa Mesa, which, presumably, is nicer because it is next to Newport Beach. There is no East Costa Mesa. This distinction is unimportant to me.
I'll be heading back to Detroit next month for a week or so (work related). Honestly, I can't wait. Yes, it sounds insane - why would someone in So Cal desire to be in Michigan!?!
Wow. Sorry about the length, but I feel somewhat better now for some reason.
RE: hey everyone come in here...
Oh man - cannot do anchovies...
