Really sorry about Your pain and sense of loss. Have received that sort of "shock" and am aware of how painful it is. I came to understand the person I loved was my perception. My partner wasn't really that person. I had seen what I wanted to see, heard what I wanted to hear. I was dumped. Cheated on and dumped in my case. The person who did that was not the ONE I loved. The One I Loved wouldn't have treated anyone that way. So I was in an identity error. Not SEEING.
You are a Marvellous, Sensitive, Caring Human Being. This is a rough spot, don't lower Your standards. You deserve what You thought You had and You'll find each other!
Perception is not an accurate way to gather truth...

- to be treated as though I matter. - to be Seen, in this moment, now...not through some past perception of "men", as Me. - Honesty, shared valued, sensitivity - communication...genuine intimate communication at the emotional, intellectual and spiritual level. _ Natural taste, smell, feel, sound, touch of WOMAN!
Whenever You're capable of being IN the Now! Be honest and be open to the reality of the present. If You're still in the past be polite and don't impose Your "stuff" on a new person.
When SHE/HE was doing the "Burning Bush" thing in the Moses skit...the "I AM! I AM" detail came out. All the "Stuff" is temporal....all the meat, the Ego schtick, the valueless billions to be given away, the baby that starves to death every 3 seconds. Enjoy Your "Human Experience"...or not....You're drivin'......the Reality is there is only "I AM! I AM!" when the sun explodes or burns out, all the ego batteries are dead and the meat is all gone. "I Am! I Am!" It is always Now in eternity.

As a guy, if I hated her pet I'd have to really ponder my attraction to Her! My pets are part of my package.....I chose them........ And of course they are as lovable as I am....... They don't get many visitors either..............
