RE: HOPELESS

Dress up well. They are scary. So plenty of protective clothing.

RE: WHO'S THE WORLDS FUNNIEST BLACK MAN WILL SMITH BILL COSBY CHRIS ROCK EDDIE MURPHY OR RICHARD PRYOR ?

Yea I agree. Richard Pryor was one of the best stand-up comedians ever.

RE: Favourite Bands

Guns and Roses (1987 - 1996) - not the new "attempt" set up by Axl.

RE: HAS ANYBODY EVER SEEN A REAL ANGEL ? LEPRICON ? FAIRY ? GHOST OR SOMETHING STRANGELY MOVE BY ITSELF

Yea there's a ghost in our house called Billy.

Myself or the lads have never seen him but any time we have girls staying over they see Billy in their room in the middle of the night grin

RE: "PLATONIC RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN"

Nope. Best thing with an ex is to have as little contact as possible. In most circumstances anyway.

Platonic relationships - depends. 95% of the time they're false. Women are all for friendships and some guys will stick it out in "friend zone" for a while until they realise that once you've moved into friend zone - it's impossible to get out.

Then I suppose there is the other 5% where a platonic relationship is possible for whatever reason, maybe it's a childhood friend.

I have about 10 male friends that I could pretty much talk about anything to whereas I only have 2 female friends in the same catagory.

And I'd probably sleep with both of those anyway rolling on the floor laughing tongue

RE: advice please

There's one thing I don't understand here. Why was he removed for Mass Mailing? The point of this site is for people to mail each other.... Does sound a little dodgy.

But then again, if he's going to come to Dublin, pay his own flights, sort out his own accommodation, etc - what have you got to lose?

How do you rate Ireland?

Come on PT. A huge amount of the people who voted were influenced by advertising. A lot of people I know voted no. Most of them voted no for the wrong reason.

Whether it be neutrality or taxation (which every state had a veto on) or moving area's of power to Brussels which they already had! There were some people who voted no because they didn't know enough about the treaty and that's fair enough.

But basically the main reason the no vote went through was because the no campaign were out advertising from the get-go. I guarantee you that the next time, the yes campaign will have a stronger marketing strategy and then we'll see a yes vote. That's not just Irish people. The world over people are influenced by advertising.

How do you rate Ireland?

You hit the nail on the head there Patrick.

There are many examples of this. Bertie is one. Absolutely nothing special about Bertie apart from the fact that he managed to wear bright suits when meeting other world leaders and stand out a bit more! FF may have chaperoned the economic success of Ireland but it was the governments of the 80's that put in place the framework which created it. But his popularity kept soaring and soaring even when revelations about his finances came out.

Smoking ban is another example. How many of us are smokers? Right we all realise they're unhealthy and in retrospect it is a pretty good thing but it's another one that we all took lying down. They tried to bring in a smoking ban in Croatia some years back and it didn;t work basically because the Croatians just ignored it. Obviously they can't go around fining every establishment so in the end they had to scrap the law. I'm not saying that we should reintroduce smoking in pubs but rather highlighting the fact that we just accepted it.

And so far, I hear not a word of protest about the new alcohol laws coming into effect. WTF???? Lets just look at other European countries which have much more relaxed laws than us and yet much less alcohol related problems than we do. Do we, the people of Ireland, as intelligent people really believe that what we need are more laws in this area? A tightening of the already stupid restrictions in place? One of the new laws is that special offers on beer will no longer be allowed. Bye-Bye cheap Miller. There really is something wrong with us.

How do you rate Ireland?

Nah, there are many Eurozone countries with much better infrastructure and services than us. Proper train and bus and tram services. Metro's for one thing! Look at what we're doing now. An experimental underground line running all the long way from Hueston to Connolly (wow, what a long long distance....) and it's gonna take how long? They're still in the planning stage of it!

And one of the reasons that we're so far behind is because in fairness - we don't pay enough tax. Other Northern European countries pay much more tax than we do. And they get something in return. We've become so used to holding onto so much of our now massive salaries that the government is afraid to do anything about it. Maybe France has a better health system than us, I wouldn't know. I do know that the UK has the best health system in the world. So why should we be behind them?

And we only score 8th in the UN Human Development Index and this is largely because we have the 2nd highest GDP per capita in the world. With the money we've had in the past 15 years we should really be right up the top. But we're not.

On the other hand we are a great nation of people and everyone who comes here feels very welcomed by us. I love Ireland mainly for this reason. But, chances are when my son grows up - I am outta here!

How do you rate Ireland?

I know. I missed Ireland too when I lived abroad. And I love the fact that there are now different cultures entering our society. My own son is half Chinese! I just wish we could adopt some of the development policies that other countries have.

How do you rate Ireland?

Cheers. I think it's a good subject to discuss.

I see there's a majority of votes for "Ireland could be deadly... but it's not" and I think this is very true. The main thing we have going for us is ourselves. I'm not trying to be ultra-proud to be Irish and yea, there's a**hole in Ireland (same as everywhere else) but in general, Irish people are very friendly, decent people. The world over loves us. Wherever we go, they'll ask "You English?" with a slightly suspicious tone of voice. When you reply "No, I'm Irish" you can literally see the change "Ah, Irish! I love Ireland". We have a great reputation.

What I find most frustrating about Ireland is the lack of proper infrastructure and services. I lived in Holland almost a decade ago and they were pretty much at the same level we are now. Actually, they were still further ahead of us back then. One thing that stands out in particular is the chip and pin system. In Holland, you could go into a shop and buy anything - whether it be 10 euro or a cent - on your card. Even now, our shops still have minimum charges for use of your Laser card.

And that's just a minor difference. Healthcare, Transport, Communications, Enviroment, the list goes on and on.

There are 3rd world countries with extensive, 12-lane motorways, built within a very short time period. And look at us!! The M50, a major motorway situated in the most populated part of the country. And we build it with 2 lanes. The M7 down to Limerick. It's one f**king lane either side. A motorway with one lane on either side. And now the government is trying to rectify these problems with a ridiculous policy of favouring Irish construction firms when awarding contracts. Whereas a foreign company would do the job much better, much faster, and much cheaper. And if Irish businesses begin losing out to the competition - It might encourage them to get up off their asses and do something about it!

Hmmn. Ok, rant over. For now.

How do you rate Ireland?

Ok, this came up in a recent post. Actually it didn't. I brought it up in a very loosely related thread cos I've been thinking a bit about it lately.

Ireland has it's good points. Friendly people, high employment, 2nd highest GDP per person in the world, etc. It has it's bad points. Crap infrastructure, crap weather, soaring prices, etc.

What do you think??

RE: I was just wondering?

cheers

But I'll say it again. Ireland is crap. I should probably start a new thread on the subject but I'm too lazy.

RE: I was just wondering?

Without getting involved in a b**chfight, I will point out that Losty wasn't warning Dusty not to come here - he was just informing her of facts which need to be considered. Such as the visa situation. One of my friends is going out with an American girl and at the moment they basically have to work a long distance relationship because she can't get an Irish visa, he can't get an American visa. Both college graduates, both upstanding citizens (well....) but the reality of the situation is that visa's aren't all that easy to come by. Crazy really when you think about it. The 2 of them met in Vietnam and lived together in Asia for years without any problems. Then they come back to the west and neither can get visa's for the other's country....

Madness.

RE: I was just wondering?

Actually, one thing that can make Ireland a lot better is a huge influx of other people and cultures - the more immigration the better

Zarah, forget what I said earlier. Ireland's great cheers

RE: Should we be "friends" or "mentors"to our children?

I agree with Cathy and Chinagirl. My son is only 4 so of course right now I can only be his mentor. But as he gets older and especially moves into mid to late teens, I'm not going to be able to control his life. All I can do then is offer him advice as a parent / friend and hope he follows it.

RE: How did u pick your username???

My mates coined JohnnyT as a nickname about 6 years ago.

The very survival of the Human Race

professor

it's true, they have an emperor and all! remember flipper? that was dolphin propaganda to make us think they are friendly. they're evil

The very survival of the Human Race

Many people at the moment worry about various crises around the world that will affect our future. International Terrorism, Border disputes in South America, Trouble in the Middle East. All this leads people to ignore the biggest threat to our survival since the evolution of the human being....

Dolphins

Here are some facts about Dolphins:

1. They can communicate with each other

2. Dolphin Brains are bigger than Human Brains

3. They can use both sides of their brains independently

4. They can even sleep with just a half of their brain – the other
side being used to hatch their mad plans

5. They have high pitched sonar ability which can actually be used
as a weapon

6. They have better hearing and vision than us – they know what
we’re up to, do we know what they’re up to?

7. Dolphins have lungs instead of gills - why do they stay in the
sea? A 10 million year plan that when comes to fruition – we have
no chance of withstanding

So come on people. Lets work together to defeat these savage creatures and then eat them afterwards. Believe me if a Dolphin ever got the chance, he’d eat you and everybody you care about.
