RE: The country is being run by the IMF, ECB, criminals and fraudsters.

No not at all. Why would I be ok paying for some developer who tried to profit off a moronic property bubble?

On the other hand I wouldn't be happy paying for a family who bought a 3 bed semi in Dublin at 500k.

Both situations are an example of someone's stupidity. The developers is also one of greed.

The thing is I don't think I am going to be pay for them. The developers won't get off scot free. They'll still have to pay the loan back in most cases. I am sure the massive transfer of property to their spouses will be taken care of by some legal mechanism.

RE: Will you march?

In fairness social responsibility is a matter of debate and opinion. Personally I do believe in a sense of social responsibility but I think we have to recognise that others have different viewpoints and respect those, even if we don't agree with them.

I'll give you an example. I have a friend from Poland who believe's our democratic and economic system is unfair and we punish people who are successful by imposing higher taxes. We've had quite a lot of discussion about this because I come from the opposite viewpoint. I believe people who earn more should pay higher taxes - although the proposed income tax changes yet to be seen in the budget could stretch that a little far. His basic belief is that everyone should pay the same tax. A set amount that everyone pays equally. We all use the same roads, go to the same schools, hospitals, etc. So why should somebody who does well for themselves in life subsidise others?

Yes it is a selfish viewpoint and I personally don't agree with it. At the same time I don't rant at the guy, let his viewpoint get me up on my high horse or get angry at him for it.

It's his belief which he's entitled to.

Btw scribs, not necessarily directed at you but rather all who have gone mental when someone has expressed their personal view on this thread.

RE: Ireland cant pay the money back....vincent brownTV3

More media hype and negativity.

Debt is a factor in every economy. Irelands is up around 90% of GDP at the moment. So what. It was the same in the 80's and early 90's.

Export led growth pushes up GDP and brings down the debt ratio.

Remember, the IMF bailout is not a Greek style bailout. The Greeks had hid the state of their public finances for years. This is to shore up the banks.

RE: Irelands Future?................

Hopefully. The Auditor General did a report on Enterprise Ireland recently. Turned out that from 386 million they received in funding, just 48 million was given to businesses, the rest spent on admin. Being in their headquarters on Monday I can see why. It's plusher than AIB's headquarters in Ballsbridge. Madness. Though with the controversy over their spending last year, hopefully next will see more support given to business.

RE: Irelands Future?................

Great to hear blarney and I wish you every success thumbs up

RE: Irelands Future?................

Yep it's just continual doom and gloom every day. In the papers, on the news, here. To be honest I don't know that many people that have been put out of a job during this recession and most people I know spending habits have only been moderately curbed.

Well, with the exception of myself!! Redundancy last month and a 7 month waiting list for statutory redundancy payments means I've had to put a few creditors on the long finger grin

RE: How soon?

When you feel like it really.

The "rules" say 3 days... i.e. text someone within 3 days so they know you're interested. But if you've met someone you really like, naturally you wouldn't leave it that long.

Next day beer

RE: IMF

There's a joke going around at the moment - who's going to bail out the IMF by the time Fine Fail are finished with them?!

RE: Where is the best place to meet men?

Sometimes. But certainly for a first date I would feel bad sharing the bill. I like to wine and dine! So I'm hoping my date tomorrow will go to the toilet or something after dinner, and I'll pay the bill while she's gone grin

RE: Where is the best place to meet men?

Yep, I suppose there are many ways to date without spending a lot of money... which prob brings us back to the cold weather blues

RE: IMF

Jaysus thats mad. 14 million!!

I suppose greed will always be a trait of humanity. It's throughout both the privat sector and public sector. The taoiseach's salary for one! Bertie's great idea to get rid of backhanders... here lads, we don't need to take bribes any more - we'll just give ourselves massive salaries!! And they probably still take backhanders!

RE: Where is the best place to meet men?

Haha, it's probably the recession! No money to wine and dine the ladies grin

RE: IMF

Never have I seen Ross insult public service workers. He gives his opinion on the problems endemic in the system. But a lot of times when you give an opinion on the public sector as a whole, individuals take it personally. It's not meant that way at all.

RE: IMF

Thats good to hear. Still a bit high, most companies will only pay 4, if any!! But at least we're moving in the right direction.

RE: IMF

The public sector is riddled with problems. Yes many work hard and well but there are massive problems. For example, this happened in a social welfare office. A staff member had dealt with 40 claims over a few hours. Meanwhile at the hatch next to her, the person had dealt with just 2. Rest of the time was spent chatting to other colleagues. When the hard worker complained to her boss, SHE was reprimanded for reporting the staff member. It was managements job apparently.

A teachers contract allows 30 days uncertified sick leave per year. 30 days uncertified sick leave.

How you can defend that is beyond me.

Anyway, no point in engaging in debate with rude, insulting people.

Good luck to ya

I work an 80 hour week. And I never have worked for a bank. And before I became self employed, I had my wages drastically cut!

RE: IMF

Ireland has a very good education system actually. And the fact that 40% of HSE staff are nurses speaks for itself. They need more doctors, not nurses. Or train some nurses to a higher level so they can perform some doctors duties.

And yes, finance workers wages should be cut. And have to my knowledge. The bonuses that were part of the lead up to massive overlending were done away with. The government still needs to take a bit more control. I think everyone was shocked when Bank of Ireland gave their staff a rise. The government should have never let that happen.

By the way, I'm a tax consultant specialising in EU taxation and I studied theoretical physics in college. My synaptic pathways are just fine! grin

RE: Where is the best place to meet men?

Keep at it! Many times I've given up on internet dating and just dated through more traditional methods. But I'm back internet dating agin! And there's loads of success stories here. Keep the faith!

RE: IMF

Cheers Ross. Nice to see someone has some manners.

Her post was the first time in 4 years I have been insulted on CS. Maybe this place really is going to the dogs.

RE: IMF

Eh, thanks... roll eyes

There is too many public sector workers in Ireland. That's a fact.

RE: IMF

On abouts 18th? Sorry don't get that, what does it mean?

Yep, knew myself and a few others I talked to back then did. Funnily enough between 2005 and 2008 I had the earnings to be able to get a mortgage but I knew the property bubble would burst.

But a huge, huge amount of people didn't have the cop on and continued to buy houses. I actually remember one of my friends swearing blind that house prices could never go down. It was impossible she claimed when I used to talk about a property crash coming. She later tried to change her story that that wasn't what she meant...

Anyway, what I meant by my first post is that nobody foresaw the IMF coming. Maybe 2 years ago. 5 years ago nobody saw this coming and the chap was ludicrous to suggest it.

RE: IMF

Yes but the areas that need to be cut, like teachers, nurses, garda, etc, prob won't be. It'll be admin cuts like the HSE redundancy package. Scaling down admin and support staff, meanwhile 40% of the HSE staff are nurses. Not including conract nurses from recruitment companies which are also used.

Now any time I've been in a hospital, yep the nurses do a great job. They're lovely. They're nice. There is also usually about 5 of them down at a nurses station chatting away.

RE: IMF

thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

RE: IMF

5 years ago an idiot could have seen this coming? Jaysus, must be a psychic idiot!! laugh

5 years ago property prices were massively high and getting higher while hundreds of thousands of "actual" idiots were buying houses thereby pushing the property prices higher, in turn leading to higher land prces, leading to higher loans from banks to developers, leading to the current banking crisis.

RE: Where is the best place to meet men?

Try to kiss someone

RE: Where is the best place to meet men?

I'm not so sure about that. There's usually quite a difference in personality, culture and beliefs the larger the age gap.

RE: Where is the best place to meet men?

Haha, yep we're deffo a bit different alright. I tend to ask girls out rather than just try to score them. My mates all slag me about it, they live by the mantra "duck head early". But to be honest a lot of girls get wierded out when ya ask them out!

RE: young singles

Really? That's an odd one.

Cockblocking on the other hand is mans biggest hurdle in chatting up women. Hence the wingman to engage the cockblocker grin

RE: Dec 18th- Dublin Get Together @ BREAK FOR THE BORDER

I'm sure the good members of CS will ensure nothing nasty happens at the meet Sativa. I can't believe someone would send you a mail of that nature, downright childish of them!
