I believe its predominantly a lack of caring that seems to be ever more prevalent as time goes on.
A "don't care" attitude begets a "don't care" atittude begets..... and so on. As with "not my problem", "doesn't affect me"... etc, etc.
I think many of those listed and the dilemmas we face today stem from that very approach we seem to have adopted.
Whereby, hundreds of years ago, even unil fairly recent times, people were born, lived all their lives, and died within their own communities and everyone knew each other. These communities relied on each and every member. As money per se would have been scarce, trading was commonplace. The farmer would probably trade provisions for having his horse shoed, and the dentist would treat the baker in return for some bread, etc.
Now we have all moved to various parts of the world, away from our original communities and even families. We have worked on being more independent and self-sufficient. Therefore, the perception is that we have so much more at our fingertips and no need for dependency on others, in turn becoming all the more selfish and self-absorbed.
Sadly, that is the PERCEPTION... when one really thinks about it, we do STILL actually need each other!!
Well... what is perceived as "abusive" can be subjective, yeah? We all have different boundaries of acceptability, what's appropriate, etc. There are varying degrees of considering ourselves "easy-going", "laid back", etc.
Having said that, there have been some threads/posts that, to most of us, would be deemed totally offensive.
In that case, I have no qualms about reporting someone. I think the key is not to feed the ego, nor encourage the poster. The best thing is to just not post where you feel you cannot give credence to what is tantamount to offensive/obnoxious behaviour, nor complete inane drivel.
Oh my.... you have got me reminiscing now....!! You make me recall the time when we (with my ex) were in Venice for a long weekend. We had had a splendid evening out at a fabulous restaurant, got back to the hotel and sat on the water-side jetty (actually on the Canale Grande) with a marvellously chilled bottle of Tocai/Trebbiano, just soaking up the night breeze. The sky was jet black, lots of stars and the lappig of the water from the odd gondola that passed by. A block away was a market place (by day), very Palladian of course, which was used as a semi-open air concert hall at night. The music was simply beautiful (of varying kinds), resonating amongst the buildings along the water's edge. It was truly inspiring and, yes I did indeed, I thought.... play louder....!!
Yes, conspicuous by their absence, wouldn't ya say? You can't say you are really surprised, can you, Bubs?? C'mon....... it would take a HUGE amount of effort, wouldn't it?? And I thought it was just Brit blokes that were UNromantic...??
RE: I drink too much, I smoke too much. Does it really matter ?
Couldn't have been put any better...... as always, Paws!!
